"Does Yier like it here?" Madam Rou walked to Yi's side and sat down as well.

Yi nodded lightly.

"Then, will Yier live in this courtyard from now on?" Madam Rou's voice was faint, carrying a hint of regret and pity.

Yi was somewhat confused, looking at Madam Rou with puzzlement.

"Just like that. The maids and old servants will arrive shortly. You'll move over today." Madam Rou sat beside her for a while, then gently rubbed her head before rising and leaving slowly.

Seeing her, they shrank back fearfully. Puzzled but not asking further, she entered the courtyard and headed toward the room where Madam Wu resided. She had only reached the doorway when she heard Madam Wu conferring with her maternal cousin inside.

Madam Wu: "Tell me, does that cheap slut know?"

Cousin: "Impossible. If she knew, would she have let us off?"

Madam Wu: "Then how come the moment that Yin Yan ran into her, she sent Yier's maid to Jinzhu Courtyard...?"

Cousin: "That Yin Yan wouldn't dare, would she?"

Madam Wu sneered: "Why wouldn't she dare? You think your little threats are of any use?"

Hearing this, Yi abandoned her intention of going in to greet the birth mother of this body. She turned and left, entered her own room, packed a few things simply, and slipped away soundlessly.

The decision to have Yier move to Jinzhu Courtyard seemed to have been made in great haste. The servants Madam Rou sent were all her personal attendants, and few in number—just one maid and one old servant. The maid was precisely that Yin Yan, and the old servant was Yin Yan's mother—Granny Yin.

Yi had no particular feelings about this. Whether there were many people or few made no difference to her. In this household, she had always been a silent person with no sense of presence.
