8. Doing Good

"He... Hello, miss." The man in the Zhongshan suit wearing glasses spoke up to greet Shi Ermei; judging by his accent, he wasn't a local! "Are you a villager from around here?"

Once Shi Ermei saw clearly that they weren't engaged in any sexual acts, her heart settled, but she still didn't dare let her guard down!

"Yes." Shi Ermei nodded from behind the large rock she had just bypassed.

A flash of joy crossed the man's face as he said urgently, "My friend has fainted due to a sudden illness. Could you please go to the village and ask someone to help us carry him out?"

Shi Ermei's gaze fell once more upon the unconscious man in black.

The light in the forest was not intense, just enough to see the black-clad man's features clearly! At a quick glance from a distance, one might mistake him for a woman dressed as a man! But looking again at his flat chest, long limbs, and the well-defined fingers hanging weakly at his sides, one would know he was a man!

Don't assume Shi Ermei had exceptionally good eyesight; in truth, she wasn't actually that far from the two of them! The man in black's head happened to be cradled by the man in glasses, so his appearance was naturally clear at a glance!

"Who are you people?" Shi Ermei asked cautiously.

She couldn't afford to be like Mr. Dongguo, showing kindness only to save a "wolf," bringing disaster upon herself and the village!

As if guessing Shi Ermei's concern, the man in glasses quickly reached into his breast pocket with his free hand and pulled out a small blue booklet, holding it up!

"I am Cheng Que, a doctor from Mingcheng St. Marian Hospital!" The man in glasses tried his utmost to make his voice sound gentle and harmless. "This person who fainted is my good friend, Qin Lie. He has had a bit of a fever for the past few days, and today he came into these mountains to look for someone, but he didn't expect to... to collapse from exhaustion!"

A doctor? A fever? Hearing these familiar terms, Shi Ermei roughly understood the situation these two men were in.

Leading the dog over to the two men, Shi Ermei took the small blue booklet from Cheng Que's hand; it turned out to be an ID card! On the leather surface, "St. Marian Hospital Work ID" was written in traditional characters. Opening the first page revealed a mimeographed form with name, age, and position.

After looking over the ID, Shi Ermei closed it and returned it to Cheng Que, then crouched down and grabbed the black-clad man's hand!

"Eh? You!" Before Cheng Que could stop her, he saw this chance encounter with a village girl grab Qin Lie's left hand and begin checking his pulse! "You... you know medicine?"

After checking the black-clad man's pulse for a moment, Shi Ermei let go and shook her head. "I don't know medicine."

"Ah? Then you..." Cheng Que was a bit stunned! He felt that the village girl's movements just now were quite professional!

"I just wanted to see if your friend really has a fever." Shi Ermei stood up and looked Cheng Que straight in the eyes, speaking candidly.

The black-clad man's skin was indeed burning hot, and his pulse was beating slightly rapid. This bit of knowledge was something she had learned from her grandmother in her previous life; it certainly didn't count as medical expertise. Grandma Shi had worked as a nurse in a hospital when she was young, so she understood some medical principles.

"Are you unwell too?" Shi Ermei asked while looking at Cheng Que.

"Me? I'm very healthy?" Cheng Que didn't understand why this village girl was asking him that.

Shi Ermei nodded and unfastened a bamboo tube filled with water from her waist, handing it to Cheng Que. "You are his friend, you're a doctor, and you know he has a fever. Do you have any medicine on you? If you do, give it to him first. If your strength is fine, I will help you support him, and we can walk out of the forest to the village together. That will be faster."
