My luck started turning around after my divorce.

Chapter 16: Could It Really Be a Coincidence?

Chen Feng was completely bewildered at this moment. He truly hadn't expected such a coincidence—to run into them even in a hotel.

"Why are you following me? Did someone send you? Speak up, and I won't call the police. Otherwise, I'll have no choice," the woman in sunglasses threatened, hiding behind Sister E.

"I'm staying in this hotel, room 5032. Besides, I arrived here before you, took a shower, and changed my clothes. Does that count as stalking?"

It was indeed a coincidence, so Chen Feng offered an explanation. Then, ignoring them, he walked past them with an air of indifference.

Only after watching Chen Feng walk away did the two women relax.

Zhang Jingwen, the woman in sunglasses, lightly patted her chest and asked, "Sister E, should we call the police to arrest him?"

Wang Yue'e frowned slightly and said, "It should be a coincidence. You might have misunderstood him."

"Sister E, in the last half a day—no, in the last hour—I've encountered him three times in different places. First on the plane, where he deliberately bumped into my back to get my attention. Then he followed me and made that taxi driver crash into our car. Now, we actually run into him here. How can such a coincidence exist in this world? He must be stalking me."

Wang Yue'e shook her head. "The incident on the plane was likely an accident, and the rear-end collision has even less to do with him. That driver is a local from Beijing, while this man clearly isn't a local since he's staying in a hotel; they shouldn't have any connection. Besides, regarding the previous collision, a stray cat suddenly darted out, causing me to slam on the brakes. It couldn't have been premeditated. As for the hotel, it's even more of a coincidence. I asked Xiao Liu to book this hotel; how could he possibly know you were staying here?"

"Is that even possible? Could it really be a coincidence?" Zhang Jingwen remained skeptical. "He might be trying to get to know me on purpose, creating opportunities to pursue me, trap me, and scam me out of money and affection. Do you think that's possible?"

Wang Yue'e rolled her eyes. "Look at him—he's so fat and looks to be about thirty. How is that possible? I don't think he has any intention of getting to know you at all, so how would he trap you? And scamming you out of money and affection is even more impossible; you aren't that stupid."

Zhang Jingwen nodded in deep agreement. "That's true. I'm not that stupid. Anyone who wants to trap me hasn't even been born yet."

Suppressing the urge to roll her eyes again, Wang Yue'e said, "Let's go," and led the way.

As it turned out, it really was a coincidence. Their room number was 5031, directly opposite Chen Feng's room.

Seeing the room number and recalling the number Chen Feng had just mentioned, Zhang Jingwen became agitated again. "Sister E, you heard him just now. He said he's in 5032, right across from us. Isn't this an excessive coincidence?"

Wang Yue'e's own deduction wavered, but she still shook her head. "It's impossible. Just looking at him, he doesn't seem like a bad person."

Zhang Jingwen pursed her lips. "Bad people don't have the words 'bad person' written all over their faces. We'd better be careful. Tomorrow, tell the company to assign two reliable bodyguards to me."

Wang Yue'e smiled bitterly. "If you do that, people will say you're acting too high and mighty again."

"So what if I am? If they're so capable, they can learn from me. All they know is how to gossip behind my back. Trash."

"Alright, alright. I'll contact the company tomorrow. But you're only staying here for one day before heading back tomorrow; is it really necessary?"

"Safety first."

"Fine."

...

Chen Feng found the buffet and enjoyed a wonderful meal. After finishing, he felt it was truly worth it. To name a few, he ate nearly a pound of salmon and drank a large bottle of high-quality champagne that usually cost over a hundred yuan. He also ate quite a lot of other seafood like scallops, prawns, and abalone.

He even helped himself to cherries from the fruit cart. Just eating these few items to his heart's content was more than enough to make up the cost.

Returning to his room, he lay on the bed and watched TV for a while out of boredom, then began scrolling through his phone.

He had been quite decadent and somewhat reclusive over the past two years; he basically had no friends left to stay in touch with. He rarely posted on his Moments.

He didn't play games either; he only liked reading web novels and watching short videos.

Just as he started scrolling through short videos, a "ding-dong" sound rang out. Someone had actually sent him a WeChat message.

Exiting the short videos and opening WeChat, he saw it was that wild girl, Qin Xiaorou.

[Why don't you ever contact me? You're a grown man—are you really comfortable with us girls being the ones to initiate contact?]

Chen Feng felt a headache coming on just by seeing this wild girl. He didn't want to deal with her and decided to pretend he hadn't seen it.

He continued scrolling through short videos, but a few minutes later, another "ding-dong" sounded. Chen Feng ignored it, but soon another "ding-dong" followed.

Chen Feng had no choice but to open WeChat again.

[You're not there?]

[I know you're there. It's been so long, I don't believe you haven't checked your phone. Reply to me quickly, or I'll get angry (ˋ^ˊ)]

Seeing this, Chen Feng had to reply

[I was just showering. What's up?]

[That's a terrible excuse. Can't I contact you if I have nothing to say?]

As expected, she had a foul temper.

Chen Feng's headache intensified: [I have to put my daughter to sleep. If there's nothing urgent, let's talk next time.]

[You have a daughter?]

[Yeah, she's three.]

It took a while before she replied: [Fine, go put your daughter to sleep then.]

Chen Feng smiled slightly at this. He didn't feel bad about lying to this wild girl. Truthfully, her temper was too aggressive, and since he wasn't her father, he didn't have the energy to engage in idle chatter with her.

Next, Chen Feng comfortably scrolled through short videos until eleven o'clock without any more WeChat harassment, then went to sleep and slept through the night.

His alarm was set for six o'clock. He got up and went to the hotel restaurant for a free breakfast, which was quite lavish.

After breakfast, he took a car to Shuangyun Hospital. He easily found a scalper at the hospital entrance and bought the specialist appointment he wanted. After queuing, waiting, and undergoing various examinations, without any surprises, the medical equipment at this hospital likely malfunctioned as well.

Holding his brain tumor diagnosis, Chen Feng received a "death sentence" once again from a specialist. Successfully plunged into depression, he left in a hurry.

This damn hospital! I'm never coming back again.

Chen Feng hopped into a random taxi at the entrance and casually told the driver, "Just drive around."

The driver happily responded, "You got it!" and began joyfully cruising through the city at a decent speed. His goal, of course, was to make more money.

Chen Feng leaned back in the rear seat with his eyes closed, his mind empty, letting his thoughts drift.

This diagnosis from Shuangyun Hospital had completely dispelled any lingering hope Chen Feng had.

A terminal illness was inevitable. With not much time left, Chen Feng decided he should return to his hometown first.

After all, his parents were still alive, and he hadn't been back for any holidays in the last two years, which was truly unfilial.

If he passed away, his parents would certainly be heartbroken. Fortunately, he had an older brother who could look after them in the end.

Just as he was thinking about these things, he heard the taxi driver let out a loud "Holy crap!" followed by a loud *thud* and a jolt of the car.

Dammit, another rear-end collision!?

Where is my good luck? Did it all run out after I sold the mutton tallow?
