My luck started turning around after my divorce.
Chapter 17: Do You Believe It Yourself?
After eating a sumptuous breakfast delivered to her hotel room, Zhang Jingwen waited for the two bodyguards sent by the company to arrive before heading out with her manager, Wang Yue'e.
They got into the car sent by the company; it was a bit low-end, worth less than a million, but acceptable.
They arrived at the Beijing Television Station around 9:30 AM, half an hour earlier than scheduled.
The official recording for the program began at 10:00 AM. It was a show focused on the analysis and commentary of film and television dramas.
Zhang Jingwen was an actress who had only recently debuted. She had starred in a xianxia drama titled *Immortal Fate Dream*, which was about to be broadcast on satellite TV, and she was here for promotion.
This episode of the program was dedicated to introducing *Immortal Fate Dream*. As the female lead, Zhang Jingwen would share some interesting anecdotes from the filming process and behind-the-scenes tidbits.
The recording went very smoothly. They left the station near noon and took a car back to the hotel.
Then, the car she was in was rear-ended again.
This time, the driver wasn't the female driver, Sister E, but a driver-cum-bodyguard sent by the company. He drove very steadily and didn't brake abruptly.
Yet, they were still rear-ended.
Even though it wasn't her car, she was sitting inside, and this was already the second time in a row they had been rear-ended.
What luck!
"How the hell are you driving?"
A bodyguard in the passenger seat got out of the car and stormed over, slamming his hand against the taxi's door.
This was a company car being driven by one of their two bodyguards/drivers. Although they wouldn't have to pay for the repairs, they would inevitably face a reprimand from their supervisor upon their return.
The taxi driver had clearly been distracted just now; he hadn't maintained a safe following distance, and because he was speeding, he hadn't been able to brake in time.
"Get out of the car!" The bodyguard was furious, pounding heavily on the window.
The taxi driver was initially intimidated, but seeing how arrogant this man was—and knowing he would be held fully liable for the accident—he lost his temper. He grabbed a wrench from his storage box, flung the door open, and stepped out.
"What the hell are you pounding for? It's just a rear-end collision!" The driver shouted back, brandishing the wrench.
Seeing that the driver was even more aggressive than he was, the bodyguard threw a direct punch at his face.
Before the driver could react, he was knocked to the ground, and the wrench was snatched from his hand.
Seeing that the man was about to beat the driver further, Chen Feng opened the car door and shouted, "Stop! You're going too far if you keep hitting him!"
The bodyguard glared at Chen Feng. "None of your business! Get back in the car!"
Since it was a taxi, the only people there besides the driver were the passengers, so the bodyguard didn't target Chen Feng specifically.
However, seeing Chen Feng get out, the other bodyguard in the driver's seat also hurried out to ensure his companion didn't get the short end of the stick.
"If you let him go now, we can resolve this peacefully. If you keep hitting him, this becomes a public security incident. Right now, it's just a common traffic accident."
Chen Feng was not intimidated by the two of them and spoke in a very calm, persuasive tone.
Taking the opportunity, the driver, who was pinned to the ground, softened his stance. "Buddy, I was reckless just now. Let me go, and I'll act like nothing happened."
After an exchange of glances, the two bodyguards released the taxi driver.
The taxi driver indeed became submissive, proactively stating that he was fully responsible for the collision and would immediately call his insurance to settle the claim.
In the backseat, Zhang Jingwen said to Wang Yue'e with great frustration, "These past two days have been incredibly unlucky."
Wang Yue'e was also frustrated; two rear-end collisions in a row was indeed bad luck.
"Let's get out. We'll call a taxi to go back."
Yesterday, the two of them had stayed behind to handle an accident, which had wasted a lot of time.
Since they weren't driving this time, they certainly didn't want a repeat of that.
"That's the only way. Luckily, I'm not famous yet, otherwise, I'd definitely be trending on social media."
"You're overthinking it."
"..."
As the two women got out of the car, they saw Chen Feng.
Their eyes widened almost simultaneously, and they both screamed "Holy shit!" in their minds.
Being women, they maintained their composure and didn't actually shout the words aloud.
"Why is it you again? Who exactly are you? Why have you been following me?"
With two bodyguards present, Zhang Jingwen felt much bolder. She stepped forward and stared at Chen Feng, questioning him loudly.
Now, even Wang Yue'e began to suspect Chen Feng.
Once or twice might be a coincidence, but it couldn't be a coincidence a fourth or fifth time, could it?
How could such a series of coincidences happen in the world?
At this moment, Chen Feng could only use the words "Holy shit" to describe his own feelings.
This was indeed too much of a coincidence!
However, if he called it a coincidence again, even he wouldn't believe himself.
"What? Can't find an excuse? Didn't you say yesterday that it was all a coincidence? Tell the truth, are you my sasaeng fan?"
Though she had looked fierce a moment ago, by the end of her sentence, her eyes were slightly bright, looking at Chen Feng with a hint of anticipation.
"Sasaeng fan?"
Chen Feng expressed his confusion.
Zhang Jingwen nodded repeatedly. "Yes, a sasaeng fan. That refers to those fans who are obsessively infatuated with their idols. I think you're that kind of person, aren't you? Although I hate people like you, I have to say, you have good taste. I've only been debuted for a few months, and you've already seen my potential and know I'll become a big star. However, I must say, your behavior is very inappropriate. If you like me, please support me through proper channels. Don't follow me, and especially don't interfere with my private life. Otherwise, I will be very angry and might even call the police to have you arrested. Do you understand?"
Chen Feng's head was filled with question marks. He shook his head directly. "I am not your sasaeng fan or anything. Whether you believe me or not, I can only say that these few times really were coincidences."
"You think anyone believes that it's a coincidence so many times in a row?" Zhang Jingwen looked at him with disdain.
Even Wang Yue'e shook her head secretly. She had been fooled before into believing it was all a coincidence, but now, even a three-year-old wouldn't believe that.
Chen Feng shook his head awkwardly. If he told the truth, no one believed him; if he lied and said he was her sasaeng fan, would they believe him then?
Chen Feng felt helpless.
"Fine. I know you have concerns—that you're afraid of being looked down upon or being arrested if you admit it. Don't worry, as long as you don't follow or harass me in the future, I'll forgive you. Do you want an autograph? I can even take a photo with you."
Seeing her enthusiastic smile, Chen Feng thought for a moment. To avoid trouble, he might as well just be a sasaeng fan. Otherwise, this woman with the questionable logic might actually call the police.
Thus, Chen Feng subconsciously nodded and gave a simple, honest smile. "Then, thank you very much."
"Where should I sign?"
Zhang Jingwen deftly pulled a pen from her small handbag, her face beaming with an eager expression.
Chen Feng patted his pockets, but there was nothing. Finally, he steeled himself to play the part to the end. He pulled open his jacket, turned his back, and said, "Could you please sign the back of my shirt?"
He was wearing a jacket over a shirt; if he signed it, he should be able to wash it off when he got back. Even if it didn't come off, it didn't matter—he had some money now and could just buy a new one.
Seeing him do this, Zhang Jingwen was even more satisfied. Only die-hard fans would be willing to do such a thing—offering their clothes for an idol's autograph was true love.
"Okay, crouch down a bit."
Chen Feng half-knelt. Zhang Jingwen lifted his jacket and, with her pen, scribbled her three flamboyant, stylized signature characters across the back of his white shirt.
She had practiced her artistic signature for a long time, and today, it finally had its official debut.
In this moment, Zhang Jingwen felt as if she were already a superstar.
