The sounds of the struggle soon died down.
Following that came a strange, chilling dragging sound, along with a "rustle-rustle" of crawling.
Everyone turned their gaze toward the left side of the hall.
Several dark shadows, varying in size, emerged from the left passageway.
They were here; they had arrived!
"Faived, launch a Fire Rain barrage at the left passageway entrance. Start chanting now and maintain it until the spell ends."
"After the first wave of Fire Rain falls, Luna, close the distance and begin interfering with Moon Glaives. Wolf Riders, throw your spears immediately."
"Ashia and Madeline, provide ranged support simultaneously. Delay them for one round, then immediately engage in melee combat alongside Rensa Shredclaw. Fight them around the Fire Rain zone to restrict their movement," Zong Shen whispered his instructions.
Upon hearing the order, Faived immediately raised his staff and began to chant softly.
The giant wolves beneath the Wolf Riders grew restless, baring their teeth at the passageway on the left side of the hall.
The shadows drew closer and closer until they left the left passageway and entered the hall.
Three monsters, two meters tall, with the lower bodies of eight-legged spiders and the upper bodies of humanoids, slowly walked out.
Behind them, their massive abdomens featured peculiar, concentric patterns.
At the ends, they were each dragging a giant bundle of spider silk, which looked bloated and seemed to have something constantly wriggling and struggling inside.
These were the so-called Web-Spinners.
In addition, there were several smaller Web-Spinners, only half the height of the others.
All the Web-Spinners had eight legs and a massive abdomen for their lower bodies, while their upper bodies were like humans, possessing a pair of arms.
The larger Web-Spinners each held two strangely shaped single-edged longswords in their hands.
The smaller ones held two sharp, fang-like daggers.
They had no noses on their faces, with eight eyes arranged in rows on either side, and their mouths extended into two fangs, much like a spider's.
Zong Shen focused his attention, checking their attributes.
【Small Web-Spinner lv10 (White)】 【Race: Nerubian Spider-Fiend】 【Piercing Damage: 23–27】 【HP: 190/300】 【Armor: 10】 【Magic Resistance: 5】 【Skills: Poisonous Strike lv1 (Attacks deal 1 point of poison damage), Fire Vulnerability (Takes extra damage from fire-attribute attacks)】 (The smallest of the Web-Spinners, yet it possesses the ability to pierce enemies.)
【Web-Spinner Warrior lv20 (Green)】 【Race: Nerubian Spider-Fiend】 【Piercing Damage: 47–50】 【HP: 680/800】 【Armor: 20】 【Magic Resistance: 13】 【Skills: Poisonous Strike lv10 (Attacks deal 10 points of poison damage), Spit Venom lv1 (The Web-Spinner Warrior spits digestive venom; range 10m, deals 100 poison damage, cooldown 30 minutes), Web Weaving lv5 (The Web-Spinner Warrior weaves a web to wrap up enemies; the web has 1000 durability, cooldown 1 hour), Fire Vulnerability (Takes extra damage from fire-attribute attacks)】 (A standard force among the Web-Spinners; an overwhelming swarm of Web-Spinners is truly a nightmare for any enemy.)
There were three Web-Spinner Warriors and four Small Web-Spinners in total—a fight they could definitely handle.
Most importantly, these Web-Spinners were all at low health. Clearly, the commotion in the left passageway earlier was them clashing with some other creatures.
For instance, the bloated things inside those webs were likely the creatures they had been fighting.
Only now, they seemed to have become prey.
Just as these Web-Spinners stepped out of the passageway, Faived’s Fire Rain spell was ready.
A magic circle appeared at the ceiling of the hall, and it began to pour fire down toward the left passageway entrance.
Dozens of fist-sized fireballs smashed down, vaguely illuminating most of the hall.
The fireballs slammed hard into the Web-Spinner Warriors, leaving behind charred marks and a pungent, burning stench.
【-100】 【-10】
A series of damage numbers popped up.
Because of the Web-Spinners' Fire Vulnerability, the damage from the Fire Rain was significantly higher than normal.
Some fireballs struck the spider webs, setting them directly ablaze.
Damage numbers continued to appear, steadily reducing the durability of the webs.
Furthermore, sparks flew, igniting the webs that were attached to the floor.
"Kee-kee!"
The Web-Spinner Warriors let out a shriek.
They immediately locked onto Zong Shen and his group.
Just as they attempted to leave the Fire Rain zone to pursue, the Wolf Riders' spears, Ashia’s Holy Light Arrows, and Madeline’s Dragon Shot were fired almost simultaneously.
They formed a small-scale ranged barrage, striking the Web-Spinners.
It prevented them from escaping, pinning them within the Fire Rain zone.
More damage numbers appeared.
Then, the Wolf Riders and the Druids of the Claw charged forward, beginning close-quarters combat.
They held the Web-Spinners firmly within the Fire Rain zone.
The wave-like descent of the Fire Rain greatly suppressed the Web-Spinners' attack frequency.
As the tide turned, by the time the fourth wave of Fire Rain fell, all the Web-Spinners had turned into white light.
【Your subordinate Wolf Rider killed Small Web-Spinner lv10, you gain half the experience points】 【Your subordinate Druid of the Claw killed Web-Spinner Warrior lv20, you gain half the experience points】 【Your subordinate Night Huntress killed Small Web-Spinner lv10, you gain half the experience points】 ... 【Experience gained (170×) = 85】 【Experience gained (1280×) = 640】 【Experience gained (170×) = 85】 ...
With a flash of white light, Zong Shen leveled up to lv12.
Faived stopped the Fire Rain.
Zong Shen rode his boar forward to loot the battlefield.
The Web-Spinners had dropped several clusters of white light and left behind some corpses.
Zong Shen walked up to collect the loot one by one and then dismantled the Web-Spinner corpses.
At this moment, Zong Shen noticed that the webs on the abdomens of the Web-Spinner Warriors hadn't disappeared.
Instead, they were still burning.
Every now and then, a damage number would pop up.
"It looks like the things inside the webs are still alive?"
Zong Shen seemed to have discovered something and pointed his sword.
"Cut open the webs!"
The diligent Wolf Riders immediately stepped forward and carefully sliced through the burning webs with their sabers.
The 1000 durability made the webs difficult to destroy; ignoring the previous burning, the Wolf Riders had to hack away for a long time before the webs were finally destroyed.
Inside each web were wrapped four or five small, ugly creatures.
These creatures were also humanoid, about 1 meter tall, but their heads were like those of dogs.
They were dressed in tattered cloth rags, with a few wearing worn-out leather armor.
In their hands, they held short blades and daggers.
They were all, without exception, Kobolds.
After breaking free from the webs, these Kobolds began to "wa-wa" and shriek, looking at the group with terror.
Zong Shen took a look; the text for these Kobolds' information was gray, representing neutral.
This meant these Kobolds were similar to the human natives, belonging to a neutral faction!
