Chapter 1246: A Duty One Cannot Decline
With three gun barrels pointed at him, the man remained relatively calm, keeping his posture still, allowing Wang An to successfully disarm him.
However, once Wang An held the gun in his hand, he discovered that it was empty. No wonder the man had been so compliant.
At that moment, the shouting and sporadic gunfire that had been audible previously suddenly vanished.
Clearly, the group of troublemakers on the train had been eliminated by the police and other righteous bystanders who had stepped in to help.
Immediately after, Wang An pointed the gun at the man's head and said
"Stay still and don't move. I'm going to tie you up, and then, well, bear with me. I won't feel at ease unless you're bound up a bit, hehehehe."
Just as Wang An was about to make a move, the man spoke with a sinister and arrogant expression
"I advise you to let me go, otherwise you won't be able to withstand our retaliation. We will find out where your family lives and kill every single one of them."
To be honest, for a split second, Wang An actually considered letting him go. Having been reborn, Wang An simply wanted to live a stable life and didn't want any major upheavals.
After all, someone daring enough to carry a gun and wound people on a train couldn't possibly be some ordinary street thug or petty delinquent.
However, the boy's arrogant tone—specifically the threat to slaughter Wang An's family—made Wang An feel extremely uncomfortable. Consequently, Wang An leaned in and spoke in a voice audible only to the two of them
"Buddy, remember this: my name is Xiong Kai. I don't want to arrest you either. In a moment, I'll drop the gun; just hit me once and then run as fast as you can."
The man was stunned by Wang An's words, but after the initial shock, he whispered back
"Thanks, brother. I'll definitely repay you in the future."
Immediately following this, Wang An lowered the gun, and the boy obediently swung a fist at Wang An.
To an observer, it looked as if the boy was launching a sneak attack.
After Wang An's face took the full force of the punch, he acted as if he were firing wildly in a panic, pulling the trigger without hesitation, aiming straight for the boy's right shoulder joint.
Wang An didn't know how much power the boy or his gang possessed, but he decided he absolutely had to "kill" Xiong Kai. If the boy ever had a chance to escape or send word to cause trouble for Wang An, he wouldn't be able to find him, since Wang An had claimed his name was Xiong Kai.
After the first shot, Wang An still didn't feel entirely secure. He quickly shifted the muzzle and fired another shot into the boy's left shoulder joint.
Then, Wang An let out a heart-wrenching scream
"Help! Someone come quickly! I've caught a bad guy here!"
The sudden turn of events left not only Wang Li and Mu Xueli bewildered, but the middle-aged woman and the young woman were equally stunned.
Of course, the most bewildered person was the boy in front of him. He never imagined that Wang An could be so insidious—willing to take a punch to the face just to have a legitimate excuse to open fire.
What the boy imagined even less was that the reason Wang An suddenly fired was because he had dared to threaten Wang An's entire family.
The reason Wang An went to such great lengths was that there were two women, one old and one young, watching from the upper berths of the compartment.
If any problems arose, Wang An would leave no evidence against himself.
Furthermore, regardless of what bad deed he was doing, Wang An always believed in one saying: "The villain accuses first to gain the upper hand."
Putting oneself in the position of the victim or the one forced to resist was always the safest bet.
Shot in both shoulders, the boy broke into a cold sweat from the pain and cursed Wang An through gritted teeth
"You brat, f*** your mother!"
Wang An gave the boy a very eerie smile and continued to shout
"Help! Someone come quickly! This bad guy is trying to escape!"
While shouting, Wang An raised the gun again and fired another shot into the boy's right knee.
To be honest, even Wang An felt that he was being far too despicable.
Finally, following Wang An's loud shouting, two men ran out of a compartment. One of them was the person who had previously run over to scold Wang An and his companions when Mu Xueli had cried out.
That said, these people were truly patient; a gunfight had broken out in the hard-seat section, yet they had stayed in their compartment the whole time.
Now that they saw Wang An had crippled the man, they finally emerged—and only two of them.
To their credit, the two were quite efficient. They stepped forward and subdued the boy who had been shot in both shoulders and one leg—essentially knocking him unconscious.
Wang An's actions earned him the respect of these two. The man who had previously scolded the trio spoke very solemnly
"We are on a mission and it was inconvenient to leave the carriage. Thank you for your righteous intervention, young brother."
As he spoke, the man gave Wang An a salute.
Seeing this, Wang An quickly stood at attention and returned the salute by placing his right hand on his forehead, saying with an air of great righteousness
"It is my duty; I could not decline."
It must be admitted that at this moment, Wang An looked like the absolute embodiment of justice, without a hint of falsehood.
Returning to a normal conversation, the man asked Wang An with a smile
"May I ask which unit you are from, comrade?"
Wang An pulled out his identification for the other to see and said
"I'm a public security officer from DJ County, out on official business. And you, big brother?"
Wang An's question clearly left the man unsure of how to answer. After a moment's thought, he said
"We are also on official business, just traveling around to see and observe the situation in various places."
Wang An knew the man wasn't lying, because the man's identity was merely a bodyguard; the person actually "observing" was the one they were protecting.
However, the man clearly didn't want to, or couldn't, reveal the identity of the person being protected.
Wang An had no desire to pry into such matters—mainly because he didn't dare. Besides, even if he found out, it would be useless.
One must have a bit of self-awareness; asking too much about certain things only brings unnecessary trouble.
Thus, Wang An responded with a chuckle
"I see, that's great, truly great. Seeing the local customs and culture of different places is indeed wonderful, hehehehe..."
Looking down at the boy at his feet, Wang An asked
"Should I hand this man over to you for processing, or would it be more appropriate for me to wait for the railway police to arrive?"
