Transmigrating Through the Interstellar: My Wife's Glory and My Honor

Chapter 56: Going on a Mission

"I'll find a way with Wen Yao." Feng Ling did not mention the fact that Luo Bi had extracted the energy liquid. Since Luo Bi was not allowed to join the combat team, whatever abilities she possessed were irrelevant to them; let them live with their regrets.

Feng Ling worked until very late that night before returning. After showering, he climbed into bed and held Luo Bi as they slept.

At six in the morning, Feng Ling released the person in his arms and pulled back the covers to get up. Hearing the movement, Luo Bi tried to get up as well, but Feng Ling stopped her. "There's no need for you to get up. Just sleep."

Luo Bi lay back down.

Feng Ling went into the bathroom to wash up, emerged fully dressed in his military uniform, had a brief conversation with Qin Yilang, and then sat on the edge of the bed. Luo Bi had not been asleep at all; she opened her eyes to see a look of hesitation on Feng Ling's face. "I have to go on a mission with the combat team today and won't be back for a few days. Will you be alright on your own?"

"Mhm. Come back quickly." Luo Bi looked at Feng Ling expectantly. She had no acquaintances at the garrison base and was afraid of being alone at night.

Not knowing what the woman was so timid about, Feng Ling tapped the terminal on her wrist. "Contact me if anything happens." Having said that, he pulled the thin quilt up for her and walked out the door.

Luo Bi lay there for a while before getting up. Feng Ling had left breakfast for her, but she decided to eat at the base cafeteria for lunch.

As she stepped out of the house and walked a few paces, a woman dressed simply approached her. The woman's hair was loosely pinned up, with a few messy strands falling against her cheeks, and her flat shoes were slightly stained with soil, making her look like someone who worked in farming.

The woman also noticed Luo Bi and greeted her with a shy smile. "You must be Feng Ling's wife, Luo Bi. My name is Pei Yu, and my husband is Yang Yu, the captain of the Seventh Combat Team."

Luo Bi did not know her, so she smiled and tried to make small talk. "Do you live on this floor too?"

Pei Yu nodded and pointed ahead. "Just that house right there. Come over to my place for a visit when you have time."

Pei Yu did not seem like a talkative person; after the greeting, she headed home.

When Luo Bi arrived at the base cafeteria, countless eyes turned toward her all at once. She simply pretended not to notice, acting as if nothing were wrong as she ordered two dishes and a bowl of rice, then turned to look for an empty seat.

"Hi! Beautiful, over here." A handsome man called out to Luo Bi with a smile.

Luo Bi looked toward the voice. She recognized him—it was Colonel Roger. Sitting at the same table as him was Colonel Lan Ze, her quiet husband. Luo Bi was not close to them, and being suddenly invited made her hesitate for a moment before she walked over.

Perhaps Colonel Roger hadn't expected Luo Bi to actually respond to him; it wasn't until she was standing right in front of him that he remembered to pull out a chair for her.

Luo Bi beat him to it and pulled the chair out herself. Roger's outstretched hand paused for a moment before he calmly withdrew it.

Taking her seat, Luo Bi asked with a smile, "You arrived early?" Since they weren't acquainted and were suddenly sitting together, she could only resort to small talk.

Lan Ze gave Luo Bi an indifferent glance, while Roger raised an eyebrow. "Oh, we just got here too."

Once the polite formalities were exhausted, Luo Bi smiled and lowered her head to begin eating. The meal consisted of rice and vegetables; at a glance, the presentation looked good, but the taste once it hit her mouth...

Heh, it was tasteless and dry—the typical fare grown by machines. Luo Bi hadn't eaten this in many years, and every time she did, she couldn't help but want to laugh. Not for any other reason, but simply at that indescribable texture.

Something that deceived the eyes but betrayed the palate; the more she thought about it, the funnier it seemed.

Lan Ze held a prejudice against Luo Bi and was very displeased about sharing a table with her. Aside from the sound of eating, no one spoke at the table.

To be honest, Luo Bi found it quite awkward. She had no appetite to begin with, and the more she ate, the less she wanted to, until she felt like she might vomit.
