Chapter 1: Unable to Wait Until 2012

“The Earth is sick, it’s truly sick, terminally ill.” While working on the advanced mathematics she hated most, Gu Yiyi complained with a groan.

She didn't understand; since 2012 hadn't arrived yet, why didn't that math teacher spend his remaining life to the fullest instead of letting her waste these few remaining days?

The other students in the dormitory rolled their eyes in unison. "Enough, Yiyi. Can you please stop saying the Earth is sick every time you do math homework?"

Giving up, Gu Yiyi sat up straight and turned to her roommates. "But, haven't you heard? There was another major earthquake somewhere today..."

"Earthquakes happen every year, what's so strange about it?"

"There are especially many this year," Gu Yiyi interjected.

"What are you afraid of? No matter how much it shakes, it won't shake here."

"True." But just as Gu Yiyi finished speaking, she felt the chair beneath her begin to shake. The beds, the windows—everything suddenly began to vibrate violently.

Everyone panicked and rushed toward the door. Just as Gu Yiyi reached the doorway, her path was blocked by a falling iron bed. Then came the collapse of losing all sense of gravity; she didn't know why this was happening, but she knew one thing: she was truly unlucky enough to run into an earthquake.

"Ah..." Aside from screaming, Gu Yiyi didn't know what else she could do. So she screamed, letting out a piercing cry from the depths of her throat.
