The School Beauty's Personal Bodyguard
Chapter 3: You're Rich?
The girl stopped kicking Lin Yi’s leg and instead leaned against the train window, quietly listening to her music.
"The next station is Songshan Station. Passengers getting off, please prepare yourselves. This stop will be fifteen minutes."
The train’s intercom announced the arrival. Lin Yi began to pack his luggage, preparing to disembark.
Unexpectedly, the girl beside him also began to pack her things; it was clear she was getting off at Songshan Station as well.
As the girl stood up, Lin Yi took a quick look and confirmed his earlier guess: she was about 1.65 meters tall.
After getting off the train, Lin Yi looked at the magnificent architecture of the station in amazement.
Although he had been here once ten years ago, Songshan had undergone earth-shaking changes in the decade since.
"Wait a moment!"
A sweet female voice rang out behind Lin Yi. He stopped and instinctively turned around.
It was the girl who had been sitting next to him on the train. She was waving her hand and walking quickly toward him.
"Is something the matter?"
Lin Yi naturally didn't believe the girl had fallen for him at first sight. Even though he was quite handsome, his outfit was incredibly tacky.
Tan trousers and a white tank top—he looked exactly like a migrant worker coming into the city to find a job.
"You weren't actually planning on going to claim that prize, were you?"
The girl said with a hint of resentment. She was angry that Lin Yi had turned a deaf ear to her warnings on the train.
"Oh, you mean this?"
Lin Yi pulled the pull-tab from his pocket and tossed it casually to the side of the road.
"Ah?!"
This time, it was the girl’s turn to be dumbfounded!
She never expected Lin Yi to do something like that!
"You... you threw it away?"
The girl pointed at Lin Yi in surprise, her mouth agape.
"Yeah, threw it away."
Lin Yi nodded. "It was fake to begin with, no point in keeping it."
"You knew it was fake?"
Hearing this, the girl couldn't quite wrap her head around it and stared blankly at Lin Yi.
What was wrong with this guy?
He knew it was fake, yet he still spent money to buy it?
Was he crazy?
Looking at him, he didn't seem like one of those wealthy people with strange hobbies either.
"I knew. Even if I didn't, you warned me about it on the train, didn't you?"
Lin Yi smiled and said.
"Then why did you give them the money?"
The girl was suddenly anxious. What kind of person was this?
Lin Yi smiled, took his backpack off his shoulder, unzipped it, and opened it in front of the girl.
The girl glanced at Lin Yi in surprise, then looked down into the backpack, and was immediately startled!
Inside were seven or eight bundles of cash!
"Are you very rich? Even if you have money, you shouldn't spend it recklessly, right?"
The girl didn't quite understand Lin Yi's intentions, thinking he was doing this to show off how wealthy he was.
"This is the money from earlier."
Lin Yi said.
"The money from earlier? What do you mean?"
The girl didn't understand. "You mean you took the money back? Didn't you only have forty-nine thousand? This looks like seventy or eighty thousand!"
"The guy with the glasses had another thirty thousand on him, so I took that too."
Lin Yi shrugged and said.
It was a trivial matter, just a small effort. For Lin Yi, it couldn't have been simpler.
"Huh?"
The girl was completely stunned this time! It wasn't that Lin Yi had a problem; it was that he was more skilled than the others. He hadn't just taken back his own money, he had swiped the glasses-wearing man's money too!
"Why that expression? You aren't thinking of reporting me for theft, are you? You have quite a strong sense of justice."
Lin Yi looked at the girl's shocked expression and teased her with a smile.
"Of course not."
The girl blushed and shook her head.
"But thank you for earlier. There aren't many girls like you left."
Lin Yi said sincerely, "Can I treat you to a meal later?"
"No..."
The girl shook her head shyly. "My family is waiting for me at the exit."
Lin Yi nodded and didn't press the issue. Picking up girls was a technical skill, but it also required going with the flow; being too deliberate would only be counterproductive. "Then I won't bother you."
Wang Xinyan watched Lin Yi’s retreating back and shook her head. He was truly a peculiar person. If her mother hadn't been waiting at the exit, she wouldn't have minded interacting with him a bit more.
It wasn't that she had a crush on him, she just felt that Lin Yi was truly unique.
Carrying so much cash in a backpack instead of putting it in a bank, dressed as tackily as possible, yet possessing an indescribable temperament.
"Sir, need a room? Very cheap..."
As soon as Lin Yi exited the station, he was surrounded by people soliciting for nearby inns.
His migrant-worker-like appearance made him a prime target for these small inns.
Rich people wouldn't stay in such places, and big hotels didn't need to solicit customers outside.
Lin Yi waved his hand, squeezed through the crowd of solicitors, and headed toward the taxi stand in the plaza. He held a slip of paper in his hand—the address the old man had given him before he left.
He got into a taxi, and the driver asked enthusiastically, "Young man, where are you headed?"
"To this address."
Lin Yi handed the slip of paper to the driver.
This driver was a "black cab" operator who specialized in the train station area and was very good at sizing up passengers.
Seeing Lin Yi, he knew he was from out of town and likely here for manual labor, so he thought about ripping him off.
Since the kid wouldn't know the route anyway, he happily took the paper. But when he glanced at the address, his face turned green!
The note read: No. 36 Guangming Avenue, Songshan City, Pengzhan Building. 11.2 kilometers from the train station, via the New Second Ring Bridge.
The route was already mapped out, and the mileage was clearly marked. Who could he rip off now?
Still, what was this kid doing at the Pengzhan Building?
That was the largest conglomerate in Songshan City. Would a guy dressed like a migrant worker know anyone inside?
The driver sighed, tossed the paper aside, and drove honestly.
Songshan’s traffic was good, with many bridges. Lin Yi felt that after a few ups and downs, he had arrived at his destination. He paid the twenty-four yuan fare and got out.
Looking at the towering building in front of him, Lin Yi felt a bit dizzy. Was this taller than the mountains back home?
It seemed his employer was quite wealthy. It might really be as the old man said: one mission could feed him for a lifetime.
He just wondered if he would die if he jumped off the top.
However, back home, the old man had once kicked him off a mountain peak directly into a ravine, and he hadn't died—he’d just been bruised and swollen, lying in bed for a few days.
Lin Yi confirmed the house number and the building name. After verifying everything was correct, he swaggered into the building.
