The Rise of a Hegemon
Chapter 50: Delivering oneself to my doorstep, how could I possibly refuse? (Please keep reading)
Lin Haoran was completely unaware of Bao Chuanwang's deployment.
Today, he was in an exceptionally good mood.
After all, the soaring stock price of Nine Dragons Warehouse had exceeded his expectations, far surpassing his original projections.
This upward trend meant he could reap massive profits from this stock market gamble.
After the employees left work one after another, Lin Haoran remained alone in the company, gazing at the magnificent and brilliant sunset outside the window.
Although he had been quite busy lately, the rewards were immense, making it all worthwhile.
He didn't have much to do this weekend, so he planned to return to the Lin family villa for two nights, treating it as a seaside vacation.
However, just as he was gathering his thoughts to leave, the pager at his waist began to vibrate frequently and inopportunely, interrupting his train of thought.
Clearly, someone was trying to contact him.
Realizing he was still in the office, he quickly walked to a nearby telephone and immediately called the number back.
After all, anyone who knew his pager number must have some connection to him.
Once the call connected, Lin Haoran spoke politely and directly: "Hello, this is Lin Haoran."
On the other end of the line came a lively and slightly playful voice: "Young Master Lin, do you still remember me? It's Guan Jiahui!"
Hearing this, the corners of Lin Haoran's mouth curled up involuntarily. "Of course I remember. I still owe you a pair of Roger Vivier shoes; how could I forget?"
The scene from the movie celebration banquet was still vivid in his mind. He had handed his business card to Guan Jiahui, thinking she would contact him soon, but to his surprise, there had been no word since, and the matter had gradually faded from his daily life.
"It's quite rare that you actually managed to remember me," Guan Jiahui said with a hint of playfulness, making Lin Haoran chuckle.
The conversation between the two instantly closed the distance between them, as if they had returned to that night of their chance encounter.
"What, you finally have time to call me?" Lin Haoran asked with a smile.
"Exactly! I've wanted to contact you for a long time, but my daddy has been coming home every day lately, so I haven't had a chance to go out. But the good news is, he's going to Malaysia this weekend to film a movie and says he'll be staying for a week. He just flew out of Hong Kong this afternoon, so I hurried to call you," Guan Jiahui complained, yet sounded happy.
"Haha, so are you in a hurry to have me fulfill my promise of the Roger Vivier shoes?" Lin Haoran teased.
"Hmph, a real man keeps his word! You promised me personally, so don't even think about backing out!" Guan Jiahui's voice carried a hint of coquettishness.
"Don't worry, I always do what I say. You can have them whenever you want," Lin Haoran smiled.
"That's great! Since you're free now, how about right now? I haven't had dinner yet. How about this: you buy me the shoes, and I'll treat you to dinner?" Guan Jiahui suggested.
"Good idea! It just so happens I haven't eaten dinner either. Where are you now? I'll come find you," Lin Haoran said with a smile.
"I'll be waiting for you at the entrance of Wang Tak Garden in Kowloon Bay. About how long will it take you to get here?" Guan Jiahui asked expectantly.
"I'm in Central right now. I should be there in about twenty minutes. Although Central isn't far from Kowloon Bay, it's currently rush hour, and the Hung Hom Cross-Harbour Tunnel might be a bit congested. I'll try to get there as fast as I can," Lin Haoran replied.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Haoran called his two bodyguards, Li Weiguo and Li Weidong, and left the company together.
The group drove toward Kowloon Bay, and about twenty minutes later, the Mercedes steadily pulled into a quiet spot outside the entrance of Wang Tak Garden.
Through the car window, Lin Haoran immediately spotted Guan Jiahui. She was wearing a long white dress that swayed gently in the breeze, looking slightly bored yet unable to hide her elegant and beautiful temperament.
Her outfit was clearly carefully chosen; unlike the gentle and dignified look she had during their last meeting, today's Guan Jiahui looked stunning.
Looking at her, ripples of emotion stirred in Lin Haoran's heart.
As a famous beauty and superstar from his previous life, Guan Jiahui stirred a desire for conquest in him, while also bringing a sense of appreciation and longing for beautiful things.
After all, a figure who was untouchable in his previous life was now within his reach in this world; how could he easily miss such an opportunity?
He lightly rolled down the window and let out a loud whistle toward her. Instantly, Guan Jiahui's gaze was drawn by this casual playfulness. A flash of pleasant surprise crossed her eyes, and she quickened her pace toward him.
"Get in, beautiful lady," Lin Haoran invited with a smile.
"Thank you," Guan Jiahui responded softly, opening the rear door with a hint of shyness and sitting down gracefully.
As the door slowly closed, a subtle and slightly tense atmosphere instantly filled the car.
Between the two, they were neither complete strangers nor intimately close; their pleasant conversation from last time seemed to have laid a delicate bridge for this encounter.
In the air, awkwardness and anticipation intertwined, stirring the heart.
"So, where are we going now? I'm looking forward to this 'big meal' you mentioned, so don't disappoint me," Lin Haoran said with a smile, noticing her slight nervousness.
"Let's go to Mong Kok. When I was little, my parents often took me there. Later, my mother took my brother to live in the US, and my father was busy with work, so I rarely went. I heard the night markets there are even more lively now; I've always wanted to go for a stroll and relive old memories," Guan Jiahui said, trying her best to calm her inner fluctuations.
Sitting in Lin Haoran's car, Guan Jiahui couldn't help but marvel at her own courage.
Even though they had only met twice, her favorability toward Lin Haoran had risen exceptionally high.
To her, Lin Haoran was not only a poised gentleman but also a man full of charm, and his wealthy background made his attraction hard to resist.
"Then let's go to Mong Kok!" Lin Haoran readily agreed.
As the driver, Li Weiguo quickly and skillfully started the engine, and the vehicle drove steadily toward Mong Kok.
Mong Kok, the city that never sleeps, certainly lived up to its reputation.
By the time Lin Haoran and Guan Jiahui arrived, although the night was deep, the prosperity of the area had not diminished in the slightest.
The streets were bustling with people, as if every inch of the air was filled with vitality and life.
Most eye-catching were the colorful, glowing neon signs.
They were like brilliant stars decorating the night sky of Mong Kok, making the nearby streets look dreamlike.
As Lin Haoran and Guan Jiahui strolled through the area, feeling this unique urban charm, the distance between them quietly narrowed without them even realizing it.
As dinner ended, they walked out of the restaurant and into the cool night air.
In that casual moment, Guan Jiahui's small hand seemed to be guided by an invisible force, quietly intertwining her fingers with Lin Haoran's warm, large hand.
At this moment, Guan Jiahui's heart rate accelerated, and her cheeks flushed red.
As for Lin Haoran, he simply smiled; since she had offered herself so readily, how could he refuse?
