Chapter 10: Truly Shameless

Tong Anqi was afraid she might hurt herself, so he took the sickle from her hand, picked up a sweet potato, wiped the dirt off on his clothes, peeled it, and handed it to Tong An'nian.

Tong An'nian held the sweet potato and took a bite, immediately squinting her eyes. It tasted good and was very sweet. With these sweet potatoes, they shouldn't have to worry about a lack of food.

However, the strength of the few of them was too small. If they wanted to dig all of these up, they would likely need to get Old Master Tong and the others involved.

Moreover, they would need to dig a cellar at home; otherwise, how could they properly store these sweet potatoes?

Tong An'nian took two more bites before handing the remainder of the sweet potato to Tong Anqi.

He took a bite, puzzled, and his eyes immediately lit up. Before he could say anything, he passed the sweet potato to his younger brothers behind him and lowered his head to continue digging.

The others tasted it as well and began digging in silence.

"Big Brother..."

"What is it, Little Sister?"

"Big Brother, can't... dig too many. If seen... they'll be gone." Tong An'nian's earnest words gave Tong Anqi a sudden jolt.

That’s right, how could he have forgotten? There was a group of people at the foot of the mountain. If their baskets were full, wouldn't that be telling them there were good things on the mountain?

But he couldn't bear to leave them here without digging them up!

Tong Anqi placed the sweet potatoes into the various baskets and covered them with the sweet potato leaves. Only then did he pick up Tong An'nian and lead his group of younger brothers away in a grand procession.

"Brother Anqi, what did you dig up?" The dark, thin girl, for some reason, had been waiting at the foot of the mountain. Seeing Tong Anqi and the others return, she walked up to them.

"Didn't dig up anything. There's nothing on the mountain, just pulled some weeds to take back to feed the chickens." Before Tong Anqi could speak, Tong Anxin spoke up coldly.

"My family's chickens need to be fed too, but I didn't find any wild vegetables. You dug up so many, can you share some with me?"

Tong An'nian blinked in Tong Anqi's arms, looking at the little girl before her. It seemed she had forgotten something.

"Tong Shanxing, what kind of dream are you having?

If you want some, go dig them yourself. We worked hard to dig up these few weeds for our chickens, and we only have this little bit.

If we share them with you, what if our chickens don't get enough to eat and stop laying eggs? My little sister still needs those eggs to nourish her body."

Tong Anhe had a fiery temper and had never liked this girl, so he naturally didn't mince his words.

Hearing Tong Anhe say this, she didn't leave, but stood there with teary eyes looking at Tong Anqi. Tong Anqi looked at her, said nothing, and walked away holding Tong An'nian.

"Shameless!" As he walked past her, Tong Anhe didn't forget to mutter, causing her face to turn a shade of dark red.

Tong An'nian looked at Tong Anhe with a beaming smile. Her second brother was truly a blunt guy; with such a direct way of speaking, would any girl ever like him in the future?

Upon returning home, Tong Anqi and the others immediately shut the gate. Old Master Tong and the others looked at the children's actions in confusion.

When Tong Anqi and the others took the items out of their baskets, the others didn't react, but Ning Qingqiu was the first to stand up in excitement.
