The competitive witch never admits defeat.
Chapter 29: Energy Vision
Chapter 29: Energy Vision
"That means they're doing extra practice on their own!" Ais immediately felt a sense of urgency. "This won't do! The Witches are practicing extra after class; how can we just stand here!"
They couldn't decide their own talent, but they could certainly decide their own effort!
A Witch's talent was naturally inferior to a Witch's; how could they allow their effort to be inferior as well?
The two of them exchanged a glance and, with unspoken understanding, returned to their seats, burying their heads in intensive practice with their developing papers.
Of course, they didn't forget to take a few bites of breadfruit to buffer their stomachs and accelerate the recovery of their magical power.
As the start of class drew closer, the little witches began to trickle back into the classroom one after another.
After a brief moment of shock, they joined the ranks of the practitioners, driven by a deep sense of guilt.
One minute before class began, Ms. Amisha arrived.
Upon entering, she was startled.
She hadn't been late, had she?
Had the two o'clock bell already rung without her hearing it?
That would have been the greatest disaster of her teaching career. Just as she was about to pull out her pocket watch, she heard two "clangs."
Confirmed: she was not late; she was as punctual as ever.
But what was going on with the students?
In all her hundreds of years of living, this was the first time she had seen a class where, before the lesson even started, every single student was spontaneously studying at their seat.
Whether they were students from the Wilderness, from outside the Wilderness, or from beyond Valen—students from other worlds.
Were this batch of little witches really this self-disciplined and studious?
The look in Amisha's eyes softened even further as she watched them.
She didn't even interrupt their practice directly; instead, she paced among them to see how they were progressing.
The more she looked, the more pleasantly surprised she became.
The little witches were not merely limiting themselves to staining the developing paper with a uniform shade of green; they had begun attempting different depths of green, trying to achieve a perfectly even saturation.
The three little Witches had even begun experimenting with different shades of yellow.
Most impressive of all was Moran; she was already able to instinctively stain the developing paper with varying depths of red, yellow, and green, and could even form patterns.
Amisha could tell at a glance that they weren't just playing around; they were practicing purposeful, more precise staining, and their methods were effective.
Only when all the little witches had finished this round of practice did Amisha clap her hands with satisfaction
"You are the most hardworking and diligent class I have ever taught! Truly! I am so proud of you!"
She provided a massive boost of emotional value!
One by one, the little witches straightened their backs and held their chins high, brimming with a sense of achievement!
After the praise, she returned to the main topic: "Next, we will use magical power to stain the eyeballs and activate Energy Vision.
I will give you some time first to become more familiar with the magical staining of different green intensities on your developing papers.
Magical staining within the green spectrum can all activate Energy Vision, but the deeper the color, the longer the duration of the effect per staining.
However, the deeper the color, the greater the pressure on the eyeballs.
Initially, I suggest you try to use lighter shades of green as much as possible. Once you have adapted, you can gradually increase the intensity; this will be more comfortable for your eyes.
A Witch's physical adaptability is much stronger than a Witch's. Moran, Vasida, and Sylph, the three of you can begin attempting medium-depth greens.
Once everyone is ready, you may come to me for your first attempt at magical staining of the eyeballs to activate Energy Vision!"
Originally, a single morning session was only enough time for each little witch to master one level of green staining.
In the past, they would simply use whichever level they had mastered for their first attempt at Energy Vision.
Even if an intensity that was too heavy caused eye discomfort, as long as the staining was within the green spectrum, it was not dangerous.
The collective lecture on magical staining only occurred during this one session; the rest was left to the little witches to adjust and adapt to on their own.
It served as a preliminary exercise in their ability for self-study.
Many little witches suffered through the step of using magical staining to activate Energy Vision.
But this batch of little witches—each of them had mastered at least two different depths of green staining.
With choices available, Amisha was naturally willing to make things a little easier for them.
Unaware of this, the little witches individually chose the lightest shade of green they had mastered and began practicing on their developing papers.
Moran was already confident in various levels of magical staining, but she practiced staining a medium shade of green one more time before standing up to approach Ms. Amisha at the podium.
"Are you ready?" Amisha asked.
"Yes!" Moran nodded firmly.
"Then let's begin!" Amisha said. "Do as I say. First, close your eyes and place your fingers on your eyelids.
Just one hand on one eye is enough. Yes! Just like that!
Then, let your magic flow out slowly to cover the eyelid. Much like staining the developing paper, you just need to fully saturate the eyelid and the eyeball."
Moran followed the steps one by one, deliberately slowing her pace.
With her previous experience practicing on the developing paper, she smoothly covered her right eyelid with a thin layer of magical power.
Amisha watched the coverage of the magic on her eye constantly. Once it was fully covered, she said, "That's enough! Stop the magical output and open your eyes to see!"
Moran lowered her fingers and opened her eyes.
The first thing she saw was Ms. Amisha.
She looked no different through her left eye than through her right.
As if sensing her confusion, Amisha said, "Energy Vision cannot observe sentient energy that exceeds one's own strength. Unowned energy in nature is not included. Look back at the other little witches!"
Moran turned around to look.
The little witches were also watching her with curiosity.
In Moran's right-eye vision, many halos of light had appeared; she guessed those were the traces of magical power.
Furthermore, these halos were very clear, yet they did not obstruct her sight. It was as if her right eye had split into two layers: one for the energy halos and one for normal vision, with the two not interfering with each other.
Every little witch had energy halos of different colors around them.
Take Alba, for example; she had a large white halo mixed with small halos of various other colors like blue, red, orange, gold, cyan, purple, and green.
The other little witches were similar to her, possessing one or two large halos of a certain color mixed with small halos of other colors, making them look multicolored and vibrant.
The overall size of the halo clusters was not much different, with an estimated diameter of about twenty centimeters, varying only in brightness.
Only Vasida and Sylph had halos that nearly submerged their entire upper bodies.
Their estimated diameter was at least a meter or two!
Moreover, it wasn't just one large halo with small ones; it was a cluster of multicolored light that seemed to contain every color, yet belonged to none of them.
Even their brightness was higher than that of the other little witches.
Vasida's, in particular, was almost solid.
Moran lowered her head to look at the halos on her own body.
