My luck started turning around after my divorce.
Chapter 12: A Ruthless Blow
Although Chen Feng had been slacking off at the company for the past two years, he was deeply resentful and angry inside, especially regarding the 100,000 yuan penalty he would have to pay if he resigned.
Staying in the company meant being suppressed at every turn with no future, yet he couldn't quit. To make matters worse, that ingrate Yan Jun would disgust him from time to time.
On the surface, Chen Feng could only endure, but deep down, he was filled with hatred for General Manager Cao and Yan Jun, who had caused his current predicament.
Therefore, Chen Feng had been secretly trying to dig up dirt on both of them.
However, General Manager Cao was somewhat out of reach, and as a mere low-level employee, there were some things he had no way of investigating.
Yan Jun was different. As someone in the same department, they saw each other every day. Moreover, Chen Feng had been responsible for the department's documentation for the past two years, meaning he had records of every project the department handled.
Coupled with the advantage of being the one in the shadows, he had managed to collect quite a bit of dirt on Yan Jun over the two years, even spending some money to do so. The photo of the receipt from earlier was something he had paid for.
Chen Feng had originally planned to present this evidence to the company owner when his contract was nearing its end, to deal a heavy blow.
But a few days ago, he was suddenly diagnosed with a terminal illness. With death looming, he saw things differently and lost the desire to take revenge on Yan Jun.
As it turned out, the guy had walked right into his trap. It could only be said that he brought it upon himself.
Looking at Yan Jun now—pale-faced and unable to answer his retort—Chen Feng didn't feel much joy from having his revenge. All he felt was a sigh in his heart.
What goes around comes around.
Never think that a crime can be committed flawlessly without being exposed; in modern society, the probability of that is comparable to winning the jackpot in the lottery.
Yet, there are so many people in this world who think they can win the eight-million-yuan prize.
Perhaps that is human nature—always harboring a sense of wishful thinking.
"Call the police."
Chairwoman Liu said in a cold voice, waving her hand.
The female assistant standing behind her didn't say a word; she took out her phone, walked to the side, and called the police directly.
Everyone was shocked. Yan Jun’s legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed to his knees. He hurriedly shouted his innocence again: "Chairwoman Liu, I didn't do it. I really didn't. Chen Feng is slandering me and framing me. I really didn't do it."
"Old Cao, notify security."
Chairwoman Liu’s expression was icy as she ordered General Manager Cao.
"Ah, oh, okay."
General Manager Cao had been stunned for a moment, but after snapping back to reality, he took out his phone.
Seeing General Manager Cao about to make the call, Yan Jun angrily shouted, "General Manager Cao, you know I’m being wronged! It’s Chen Feng who is framing me. General Manager Cao, you have to speak up for me and be fair!"
Hearing this, General Manager Cao looked at Chairwoman Liu with his phone in hand and pleaded, "Chairwoman Liu, look at this situation. Why don't we just conduct an internal investigation within the company?"
Chairwoman Liu gave him a cold look and said indifferently, "It seems General Manager Cao has a very good relationship with this Yan Jun. Did you promote him?"
Vice President Zhang, who was standing to the side, interjected, "Yes, Chairwoman Liu. Yan Jun was promoted by General Manager Cao himself. Yan Jun was originally Chen Feng’s apprentice, and I heard they had a pretty good relationship back then. Chen Feng was the Deputy Manager of the Planning Department at the time, but for some reason, as soon as General Manager Cao took office, he removed him and promoted Yan Jun to Deputy Manager. A few months later, he was officially promoted to Manager of the Planning Department."
Chairwoman Liu chuckled twice and nodded slightly. "I see. General Manager Cao, since he is your trusted aide, you should recuse yourself from this matter. Old Zhang, I’ll leave this to you. Conduct an internal investigation and purge. Root out anyone who is disloyal; fire those who should be fired and prosecute those who should be prosecuted. When the police arrive, cooperate with their investigation."
Vice President Zhang was overjoyed upon hearing this. "Understood, Chairwoman Liu. I guarantee I will complete the task."
General Manager Cao’s face turned ashen, and he couldn't say a word because everything Vice President Zhang said was true. Yan Jun’s legs were trembling. He wanted to confess and return some of the embezzled funds, but he was unwilling to do so and still held onto a sliver of hope. He was also terrified that if the police arrived and found concrete evidence, he would be finished. Thinking about the possibility of spending several years in prison, he was filled with fear.
Caught in an internal struggle, Yan Jun stood there completely dazed.
"You did well. I keep my word. If the police investigation confirms the situation, the company will certainly reward you."
Chairwoman Liu’s tone toward Chen Feng was much gentler.
Chen Feng didn't say much, just shook his head lightly with an air of indifference.
Seeing this, Chairwoman Liu frowned. "What? Are you not satisfied?"
"No." Chen Feng stood up from his seat and said calmly, "I don't want any reward because I have a grudge against Yan Jun. Besides, once this matter is settled, I hope you will approve my resignation."
"You want to resign?" Chairwoman Liu looked at him, frowning.
"Yes. I hope you can approve it."
Chairwoman Liu pondered in silence. General Manager Cao, standing to the side, snorted coldly. "Chen Feng, you are still under contract. If you want to resign early, you must first pay the company’s penalty. The company spent a large sum of money sending you to Shanghai for training back then."
"General Manager Cao, I am talking to Chairwoman Liu. Why are you interrupting? Do you think that since I beat Yan Jun and exposed him today, I wouldn't be prepared? In fact, you and Yan Jun are birds of a feather. Yan Jun hasn't given you a small amount of 'tribute' over the past two years, has he? You must have known long ago that Yan Jun was disloyal and embezzling company funds, and perhaps you were doing it yourself. Otherwise, how could the company’s performance have shrunk so severely over the past two years? As the General Manager, you cannot shirk your responsibility."
"Are you addicted to slandering people?" General Manager Cao pointed at Chen Feng and cursed, "Be careful, or I’ll sue you for defamation."
Chairwoman Liu frowned and looked at him with a stern gaze. General Manager Cao felt an inexplicable pressure and couldn't finish his harsh words.
Chen Feng sneered, "If you are truly innocent, tell me, whose money did you use to buy the Zifu Haoyuan villa you currently live in? A villa in Zifu Haoyuan must cost at least ten million yuan, right? And your annual salary plus bonuses and company dividends don't exceed a million at most. Your wife is a housewife, and both of your children attend elite schools, with tuition fees totaling nearly a million a year. Don't tell me this money came from family inheritance; your family has been poor farmers for three generations, and your wife’s family is just an ordinary household. Of course, it’s possible you won the lottery or won it gambling. If that’s the case, pretend I said nothing."
Although he hadn't found concrete evidence against General Manager Cao over the past two years, he had investigated some of his background. He hadn't done it personally, but had paid for an online investigation; this information cost less than a thousand yuan to obtain. Saying these things out loud wasn't just to take him down, but to disgust him.
"You investigated me?!"
General Manager Cao was beyond furious. Without a word, he stepped forward and swung a slap at Chen Feng.
Chen Feng had been guarding against him; he leaned back to dodge the slap, then kicked out, landing a blow right on Cao’s potbelly.
General Manager Cao let out a muffled grunt, stumbled back several steps, and finally landed on his backside on the floor.
"You dare hit me! Good! Very good! You’re finished, I’m telling you, you’re finished!" General Manager Cao stared at Chen Feng, gritting his teeth.
Chen Feng smiled and said, "Everyone saw it. He was the one who struck first; I was just forced to defend myself."
General Manager Cao was even more enraged. "You..."
"Enough!" Chairwoman Liu interrupted him, her tone stern. "Cao Kun, you are a dignified General Manager. To strike and beat an employee in front of all of us—do you still have the demeanor of a leader? You are suspended for the time being. Go home and reflect on this for two days."
Upon hearing this, Cao Kun’s expression turned extremely ugly. He said in a gloomy tone, "Chairwoman Liu, I’ve worked at Dianchuang for over ten years. Suspending me over such a trivial matter seems a bit unreasonable, doesn't it?"
Chairwoman Liu didn't give him any face at all, retorting, "You think beating an employee is a trivial matter? Then you need to go home and reflect even more. Leave now."
Cao Kun didn't say anything more. He quickly stood up from the floor, shot a gloomy look at Chen Feng, glanced at Chairwoman Liu, and turned to leave.
Everyone had different expressions; some looked worried, while others looked pleased.
At this moment, several company security guards arrived and, following Vice President Zhang’s instructions, subtly took control of Yan Jun.
Chen Feng looked at the dejected Yan Jun and said calmly, "Yan Jun, if I were you, when the police arrive in a moment, I would honestly confess everything. Including the 'tribute' you gave Cao Kun over the past two years. You can't be the one going to prison and having your assets frozen while he continues to live in a luxury villa with his beautiful wife and concubines. I suspect most of the money he uses to keep his mistress came from your tributes, right?"
"Chen Feng, you are truly sinister! I didn't do it anyway, so your framing won't work. Once the police clear my name, just wait for me to sue you for defamation."
Yan Jun put on a tough front.
However, this tough act completely collapsed a few minutes later when the police arrived. Even before they put the handcuffs on him, his body was shaking like chaff, and his face was filled with fear.
He looked exactly like a thief with a guilty conscience.
