Lord of the Mysteries

Chapter 54: The First Diviner

Chapter 54: The First Seeker

Seeing Klein's surprised expression, Angelica felt a moment of hesitation.

"Is it not? Mr. Glacis said that you could tell a disease was hidden in his lungs just by observing him..."

Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, eventually falling silent.

Observation? A dark brow? Klein suddenly understood. He shook his head and laughed helplessly.

"I think Mr. Glacis misunderstood."

He had intended to brush it off with a perfunctory remark, but he suddenly remembered that no one had sought him out for divination yesterday afternoon, making his process of acting as a "Diviner" very difficult. His mind raced, and he offered a brief explanation

"This is actually a form of divination."

"Divination? But Mr. Glacis only mentioned that you observed his face. Does that count as divination?" Angelica asked back, both surprised and confused.

Klein smiled composedly.

"As a member of the Divination Club, you should be familiar with palmistry, right?"

Palmistry was not the exclusive property of the Food Empire; even on Earth, India and Old Europe had developed their own respective theories, let alone in a world possessed of Beyonder powers.

"I know it, but... you didn't seem to read his palms either. Were you observing him secretly?" Angelica asked curiously.

"I was reading his physiognomy," Klein lied. "The principle is not fundamentally different from palmistry."

"Really?" Angelica's eyes were filled with disbelief.

For the sake of his "Diviner" career, Klein gave a light chuckle, pretended to think, and tapped his brow twice with his fingers.

Focusing his gaze, Angelica's aura manifested within his eyes: her head was purple, her hands and feet were red, her throat was blue... Her health seemed fine, though the colors were slightly dim, which was a normal sign of fatigue.

Klein then looked at her emotions, seeing orange mixed with traces of red and blue—warmth accompanied by a hint of excitement and a bit of contemplation.

*Fortunately...* Seeing that there were no abnormalities, Klein intended to close his Spirit Vision. But just then, he suddenly saw a thick, heavy darkness hidden deep within the colors of Angelica's emotions.

"Furthermore, she also lacks a bit of white, upward positivity..." Klein nodded thoughtfully.

"Mr. Moretti, are you reading my physiognomy?" Seeing the young gentleman in the black formal suit suddenly fall silent and study her intently, Angelica keenly sensed something and asked with a mix of curiosity and worry.

Klein did not answer immediately. He tapped his brow again, maintaining an air of focused scrutiny.

Just as Angelica began to feel uneasy, he spoke gently

"Ms. Angelica, there is some sadness and some pain; do not seal it away in your heart."

Angelica's eyes widened instantly. Her mouth opened, but no words came out.

She looked at Klein, who wore a half-top hat and possessed a distinct scholarly temperament. She heard him speak in a low, soothing, and warm voice

"You need a mountain climb, a tennis match, or a tragic play—something to let your body grow weary from exertion, to let your tears flow without concealment. Then, cry, scream, and let those emotions erupt completely."

"It will also be very beneficial to your physical health."

The words were soothing to the ear. Angelica seemed to turn into a statue, standing there, motionless.

She blinked hard, lowered her head in a fluster, and said in a muffled voice

"Thank you for your advice..."

"There seem to be many members today?" Klein did not say more. As if he hadn't performed any divination just now, he turned his body to look toward the meeting room at the end of the corridor.

"On Sunday afternoons... at least 50 members..." Angelica's voice was still somewhat hoarse, and her description consisted only of a few keywords.

She paused, her speaking speed gradually returning to normal.

"Would you like black tea or coffee?"

"Siberian black tea." Klein nodded slightly, tipped his hat as a matter of etiquette, and then walked slowly toward the meeting room.

It wasn't until he disappeared by the door that Angelica finally let out a slow breath.

...

The Divination Club's meeting room was very large, almost twice the size of Klein's high school classroom.

Usually, there were only five or six members here, making it seem very empty. Now, dozens of "diviners" sat in small groups in various positions, quickly filling most of the space.

Sunlight streamed in through several bay windows. Members were either discussing in low voices, crowding around Hinas Vincent to ask for guidance, bowing their heads in practice to attempt divination, or sitting alone drinking coffee and reading newspapers.

This scene gave Klein a sense of returning to his student days on Earth, though those times had been more boisterous and noisy, lacking this sense of tranquility.

He scanned the room but did not see his acquaintances, Glacis or Edward Steve. Thus, he casually picked up a public divination textbook, found a corner, and began to flip through it leisurely.

A short while later, Angelica entered carrying a cup of black tea and placed it on the table in front of Klein.

Just as she was about to leave quietly, she suddenly saw Mr. Moretti unfasten a uniquely styled silver chain from his left sleeve, from which hung a pure citrine.

*What is he doing?* Angelica unconsciously slowed her pace, gazing at Klein.

Klein held the silver chain in his left hand and let the citrine hang vertically above the cup of Siberian black tea, stopping just a fraction before it touched the liquid's surface.

With a serene expression, he half-closed his eyes, and the surrounding atmosphere instantly became quiet.

The pure citrine moved slightly, making the uniquely styled silver chain rotate clockwise.

Seeing this, Angelica felt that Mr. Moretti was exceptionally mysterious.

"Your black tea is quite good," Klein opened his eyes and whispered with a smile.

His previous actions were deliberate—done specifically for Angelica to see!

If he wanted people to seek him out for divination quickly, Angelica, who was responsible for reception and recommendations, was actually a crucial factor!

Since he was acting as a "Diviner," Klein no longer held any reservations and truly immersed himself in the identity.

"...Yes, Mr. Venus is very picky about the quality of black tea," Angelica said, momentarily stunned.

At that moment, Klein withdrew the pendulum, rewound it, and then picked up the white patterned porcelain cup, raising it in a smiling, respectful toast toward her.

...

Returning to the reception hall, Angelica was in no mood to read magazines. She sat there, staring blankly, lost in thought.

It wasn't until a knock came at the door that she was jolted awake. She looked hurriedly toward the entrance and saw a lady in a light blue long dress.

The lady removed her gauze hat, which was adorned with a pale blue ribbon; her expression was calm yet melancholy.

"Good afternoon, noble lady. Would you like to join the club, or are you looking for a divination?" Angelica greeted her professionally.

"I want a divination." The lady, whose eyes were beautiful yet hidden behind melancholy, bit her lip and said.

Angelica first invited her to sit on the sofa, then gave a detailed introduction to the membership divination process.

She brought out a catalog and handed it over, saying

"You may choose any one of them."

The melancholy lady seriously flipped through the catalog. Because there were so many members in the club today, the range of choices was so vast that it made her feel a bit overwhelmed.

"Can you recommend someone? From these pages." She pointed to the middle section of the catalog, skipping the diviners priced above 2 Soles or below 4 pence.

Angelica took the catalog back, looked through it for a few minutes, and said after careful consideration

"I recommend this gentleman."

The lady, harboring underlying unease, looked intently and found a diviner named "Klein Moretti."

"...Mr. Moretti just joined the club... is his level trustworthy?" she asked, somewhat uncertain.

Angelica nodded with certainty.

"Both I and another member can confirm that Mr. Moretti is an excellent diviner. If he had not just joined the club, he would not charge such a low fee."

"I understand." The melancholy lady nodded. "Then I will request a divination from Mr. Moretti."

"Very well, please wait a moment." Angelica took the catalog and rose to walk toward the meeting room.

She approached Klein and lowered her voice.

"Mr. Moretti, someone would like to request a divination from you. Which divination room would you like to use?"

*The effect is good; the first piece of "business" has arrived...* Klein set down his teacup and nodded calmly.

"The Citrine Room."

"Very well." Angelica led the way slowly and opened the wooden door to the Citrine Room.

Klein sat behind a table laden with various divination tools. After waiting for a few dozen seconds, he saw the woman in the light blue long dress, looking low-spirited and melancholy, enter.

Taking advantage of the moment she closed the door behind her, he tapped his brow twice.

*The yellow in the stomach is a bit dim... the darkness of the emotions is very heavy, primarily characterized by worry and unease...* Klein observed carefully, leaned back slightly, and raised his hand to close his Spirit Vision.

"Hello, Mr. Moretti." The lady in the light blue dress sat down.

"Good afternoon. How should I address you?" Klein asked politely, without any expectation of receiving a definitive answer.

As a veteran of internet forums, he knew that many people were unwilling to use their real names during a divination.

"You can call me Anna." The lady in the light blue dress set her gauze hat aside and looked at Klein with eyes full of both anticipation and suspicion. "I want to divine the status of my fiancé. He went to the Southern Continent in March for a business deal. On the third of last month, he sent a telegram to me and his family saying he was about to set sail to return. However, twenty days have passed, and he still hasn't returned. I initially thought it was due to the weather in the Frenzied Sea, but as of today, more than a month has passed, and the ship he was on, the 'Clover,' has still not arrived at Enmat Port."

The ocean separating the Northern and Southern Continents was called the Frenzied Sea, famous for its frequent natural disasters and countless dangerous currents. If Emperor Roselle had not sent people to explore several relatively safe routes, the nations of the Northern Continent might not have even entered the Age of Colonization today, let alone laid undersea cables and completed the wired telegraph infrastructure.

Klein looked at his first true client in his career as a "Diviner" and asked cautiously

"Which method of divination would you like to use?"
