Chapter 12: It flees, she chases, there is no escape!

Jiang Nanxi ran toward the riverbank, only to see Li Chu had jumped into the river at some point and was lying flat on the riverbed.

It was past noon, and the sun was no longer as fierce. The shade from the trees along the bank blocked much of the light, making the area near the water look somewhat eerie.

"Li Chu, what are you doing? Get up!"

Two staff members ran over first and jumped directly into the river, trying to pull Li Chu up.

Both staff members were men with considerable strength, yet they couldn't budge Li Chu at all.

The water level only reached their knees—not nearly deep enough to drown anyone—but as Li Chu lay flat in the water, her complexion gradually turned a sickly, ashen gray.

"Help... help me..."

Feeling someone pulling her, Li Chu couldn't help but reach her hand out of the water, trying to get up.

"Get up quickly!"

The staff members grabbed her hands, trying to drag her up, but Li Chu remained as motionless as a massive boulder at the bottom of the river. She wouldn't budge!

The staff members broke into a cold sweat, anxious. "What do we do? We can't pull her up at all. I feel like something is pressing down on her!"

Another person tried to lift Li Chu out of the river, but he couldn't lift her either!

This bizarre scene sent shivers down the viewers' spines.

[Holy crap, what is going on?!]

[How can two male staff members not be able to pull up one girl? Even if you're trying to create drama for the show, don't do it like this! What if someone actually dies?]

[Look closely, everyone. It looks like a long-haired black shadow is crouching on Li Chu's body!]

The production team was using a drone for filming. When the drone flew overhead to get a bird's-eye view, the audience saw a long-haired black shadow flickering in and out of existence on Li Chu.

"Come and help!"

The commotion grew louder, alerting everyone on the production team, and others rushed over one after another.

A crowd gathered by the river, and several more staff members jumped in to help pull Li Chu.

But it was still useless. Li Chu seemed glued to the riverbed; no matter what, she couldn't be pulled up.

"Move! Move aside!"

Jiang Nanxi rushed over carrying a basin of black dog blood. She shoved the others aside, jumped into the river, and splashed the contents onto the water surface above Li Chu.

She had moved so fast that the staff members standing in the river didn't have time to dodge and were splashed with quite a bit of the black dog blood.

"Save... save me..."

While the others were stunned, Li Chu's body finally regained movement. She reached her hands out of the water, struggling to lift her upper body, and her head finally broke the surface.

But the next second.

They saw a circle of black mist coiled around Li Chu's neck, dragging her upper body back into the river.

[Water ghost! It's a water ghost!]

[There really is a water ghost, I saw it too! There's a black shadow swimming around in the river!]

[Yes, yes, I saw it too! The black shadow was crouching on Li Chu just now. After Jiang Nanxi poured that big basin of blood, the thing swam away, but its hair is still wrapped around Li Chu's neck!]

[Wait, can't all those people see the thing wrapped around Li Chu's neck? Someone help her untie it!]

[Is it possible that these people really can't see it? It seems like only the camera can capture it!]

The others truly couldn't see the black shadow in the river. They had finally managed to pull Li Chu up, only for her to be dragged back into the water by an unseen force.

"Stop pulling her!"

Jiang Nanxi suddenly shouted, "Look at her neck! There’s something wrapped around it. If you keep pulling her, her neck is going to snap!"

"What?!"

The staff members were terrified and quickly let go.

Everyone else looked at Li Chu's neck and finally noticed the distinct ligature marks, yet they still couldn't see what was wrapped around her.

A staff member said in horror, "What is wrapped around her neck? Why can't we see it?"

The director, standing on the bank, also said anxiously, "Nanxi, what's going on? Li Chu is lying in the river and can't get up. If we don't pull her out, she's going to suffocate!"

Seeing the staff members stop, the director was sweating profusely. He even started walking into the river, intending to save her himself.

But the moment he stepped in, he saw Jiang Nanxi dive into the water, crawling along the riverbed in the shadows like a giant toad.

Director:?

Jiang Nanxi: "A water ghost that even black dog blood can't handle? Looks like it's pretty strong. The meat must be delicious too. Water ghost, hehehe, big sister is here!"

Before anyone could react, Jiang Nanxi was crawling in the river using both her hands and feet.

She crawled to an empty spot, and with a ferocious expression, she began clawing at the empty air.

Jiang Nanxi: "Pinching your hips, monkey steals the peach! You're a water ghost, and I'm your death-ghost. Come, come, let big sister have a kiss first."

"Ah!"

A shrill, miserable scream echoed from the bottom of the river.

Everyone stared blankly in Jiang Nanxi's direction, only to see her smacking her lips, as if she were chewing on something they couldn't see.

The water ghost's arm had been bitten off by Jiang Nanxi, and it turned into a ball of ghostly energy that she swallowed.

Jiang Nanxi was a reincarnated demon from hell; she was used to eating ghosts back in the underworld.

She had originally intended to turn over a new leaf and cultivate properly, avoiding the crooked path of eating ghosts to gain power, but this water ghost was simply too arrogant!

"Ahhh! My arm!"

The eerie, shrill scream came again.

On camera, the audience saw the black shadow in the river swimming rapidly, trying to flee the area.

Because the shadow was running, the long hair wrapped around Li Chu's neck loosened, and the staff finally managed to pull Li Chu out of the water and send her to the medical station.

But underwater, things were far from calm.

The black shadow swam rapidly upstream, while Jiang Nanxi crawled through the water, moving like a blur as she chased after it.

"Hahahahaha, don't run! Weren't you looking for a scapegoat? Come look for me!"

"Ahhhhh, don't come over here!"

"Stop right there, let big sister have another kiss!"

"Ahhhh, no!"

Seeing Jiang Nanxi grab its foot, the black shadow made a sharp turn, following the current back upstream toward the crowded area, hoping to use the people to hide from the crazed Jiang Nanxi.

Jiang Nanxi rushed down after it, continuing to crawl through the water in pursuit.

"Don't run, don't run! Let me have a bite, just one more bite. I've been on a diet for so long, it's so delicious, give me another bite!"

"Ahhhh!" Someone save it!

The director had just breathed a sigh of relief seeing Li Chu rescued, only to see Jiang Nanxi shouting and crawling through the water.

His expression turned to despair again. "It's over. We just saved one, and now this one has been scared out of her mind."

The audience was also stunned.

[My god, what is Jiang Nanxi doing? Is she chasing the water ghost to eat it?]

[Does no one else think she's scarier than the water ghost?]

[She scared the life out of me. I thought she was some kind of alien species; I almost wanted to throw rice at her to exorcise her.]

[But she did save Li Chu!]

[Jiang Nanxi might be a bit weird, but when her teammate is in danger, she really saves them! I'm a fan now!]

Jiang Nanxi finally caught up to the water ghost, bit down on its head, and lifted it out of the water, preparing to take it back to eat slowly.

Just as she stood up from the river, she saw a refined and elegant figure standing on the bank.

The man's peerlessly handsome face held a hint of playfulness as he stared at her, scrutinizing her for a long time.
