Chapter 17: Baili Yuan's Enlightenment Education (Second Update)

Time flies.

Andy stopped making trouble for Baili Yuan and instead began arranging for people to tutor him in basic knowledge. After all, Baili Yuan was not a local; he understood nothing, whether it was about the business of Emblems or anything else, and he couldn't even recognize all the characters of this world.

As a side note, the reason Baili Yuan could communicate happily with the people of this world was due to the System. To adapt to hosts in different worlds, the System possessed an inherent translation ability, and the Easter Egg System had shared this ability with Baili Yuan.

At the same time, because Baili Yuan could not even recognize characters, it solidified the two facts that he was five years old this year and an orphan.

Faced with this, Baili Yuan could only choose to smile and remain silent.

...

From the second day after joining the Emblem Academy, Andy arranged for Baili Yuan to stay in a remote courtyard within the academy to begin his "enlightenment education."

First came basic literacy, taught one-on-one by an enlightenment tutor brought in from a preschool. The lessons started at nine in the morning and lasted until eleven, totaling two hours of study.

Baili Yuan felt as if he had returned to the days of his first life when he was learning foreign languages.

Fortunately, Baili Yuan was already over two thousand years old and was not a child who knew nothing; he was quite fast at learning and absorbing new knowledge.

The enlightenment tutor expressed great satisfaction with the "bright and clever" Baili Yuan.

"You are the most outstanding child I have ever taught."

Those were the tutor's exact words.

Then came the study of basic knowledge regarding Emblems, starting at one in the afternoon, also lasting for two hours.

Because the number of characters Baili Yuan recognized was limited, all knowledge had to be delivered orally. The ones responsible for teaching him were the Elders, who took turns instructing him.

However, Baili Yuan felt that the reason they came to teach him was definitely because they were bored. Every time they came, they would ramble incessantly; the useful information was very limited, and most of the time they were just talking nonsense or boasting about how glorious they were in their youth—what battle records they had, the wildest horses they had ridden, the most beautiful women they had slept with, and even introducing their granddaughters to Baili Yuan...

Every time, Baili Yuan had to exert great effort to distinguish the useful information from the heavily distorted tales, piecing together the true image of an Emblem bit by bit.

Finally, there was the Summoner's cultivation, which took place after five in the afternoon.

The person teaching Baili Yuan was a Summoner instructor from the academy.

The instructor was not of a branch profession, but was a regular Summoner, just like Baili Yuan.

The instructor responsible for teaching Baili Yuan was a man in his thirties named Shedu.

He always looked decadent, with a face full of stubble, messy hair, and clothes that lacked any sense of aesthetics. He always had a cigarette dangling from his mouth, and his eyes always looked half-asleep, projecting a lazy attitude of indifference toward everything. He looked like an unreliable person.

However, from this unremarkable instructor, Baili Yuan sensed an aura of iron and blood that could only be possessed by someone who had been baptized by war!

Back in the Land of Light, Baili Yuan had seen those warriors, and the feeling Shedu gave him was very similar to the feeling those warriors provided.

Shedu did not disappoint. His first lesson for Baili Yuan was not the customary introduction to the basics, but teaching Baili Yuan how a Summoner should kill people!

Baili Yuan's forehead was covered in black lines. Was this really okay? Wouldn't this corrupt a child? Was the teaching at the Emblem Academy really this intense?

Especially after Shedu said in a flat tone, "After defeating an enemy, only by twisting off his head and piercing his heart can you be called a victor," Baili Yuan felt that Shedu was serious. He was absolutely here to teach him how to kill!

A single look confirmed it: this was a ruthless man!

It also gave Baili Yuan the illusion that "this world is very dangerous!"

Consequently, Baili Yuan studied his enlightenment education with extreme seriousness, fearing that if he lacked skill, he might be killed the moment he stepped out. As an Ultraman, he absolutely would not accept such a death!

Baili Yuan's serious attitude toward learning also drew sighs of admiration from Andy and the Elders. In this day and age, there weren't many children who were this diligent and hardworking.

Aside from the three mandatory daily lessons, the rest of the time was allocated freely by Baili Yuan. He could wander around the academy or stay in his courtyard.

The courtyard had a training ground, and his room contained a television, books, and... a toy house that left Baili Yuan speechless.

Did they really take him for a small child?

However, Baili Yuan did not go out wandering often. After memorizing the academy map once, he spent most of his time hunkered down in his courtyard.

There was nothing in the Emblem Academy that attracted him. The Easter Eggs—the Black Iron and Bronze ones—didn't yield anything valuable, and he couldn't even get to the Silver ones, let alone the Gold ones above them.

It was better to stay obediently in the courtyard and quietly increase his strength.

After all, while unable to transform, being an Emblem was his fundamental way of making a living in this world!

The days passed one by one.

One month later...

It was another early morning.

Six o'clock.

Wearing cartoon pajamas, Baili Yuan pushed open his door to greet the morning sunlight.

Connecting a hose to the faucet, Baili Yuan walked to the edge of the flowerbed with the other end and turned on the switch.

The water sprayed out, pouring down onto a patch of snapdragons.

That's right, just one patch.

The reproduction speed of the snapdragons far exceeded Baili Yuan's imagination. Sowing their seeds was like fish spawning; it was a massive amount all at once, occurring once a month. By now, there were over a hundred snapdragons in the flowerbed, and the original plant had grown three times its size, far exceeding ordinary snapdragons, standing out like a "fish among the grass" within the cluster.

Regarding the origin of the snapdragons, Andy and the others didn't ask much. There were many strange things in this world, and there was no need to make a fuss. They simply confirmed that the snapdragons were not dangerous and allowed Baili Yuan to raise them, though they didn't understand the point of cultivating something that was neither fish nor grass and had such a disgusting name.

At first, Baili Yuan thought the same. However, looking at the "dead fish eyes" of the snapdragons, he felt it would be unkind to just throw them away, so he tried to raise them. Gradually, Baili Yuan was shocked to find that the snapdragons were actually strangely cute. Then, as he kept raising them, they grew to their current scale.

Being sprayed with water, the snapdragons became active, and then...

"Oga~~~~~~~~~ Oga~~~~~~~~~~"

Listening to the cries of the snapdragons, Baili Yuan revealed a smile.

"It's another beautiful day."
