Beast Taming from Zero
Chapter 20: The Car Door Opened
The bus veered slightly to one side.
The driver maintained a forced composure while driving, but the sweat trickling down his forehead betrayed him.
"How much longer until the next stop?" a voice was the first to break the silence.
"About five minutes," someone replied.
The bus fell silent once more.
"Can you let your Fire Fang Dog catch your scent? Maybe it can sniff out where that thing is," Qiao Sang suddenly spoke up amidst the silence.
Before the female student could respond, the square-faced man standing beside her sneered, "Even if there really is a wild Ghost-type transcendent creature on this bus, are you sure you want to go looking for it while the driver is operating? If you provoke it and something happens, can you take responsibility?"
"Yeah, let's wait until the bus reaches the next stop and pulls over."
"This matter should be handled by the Inspection Department. Let's not cause any more trouble."
"Right, what was the number for the Inspection Department again? I'll call them."
"I think it's 669."
"...That's the Control Department."
The passengers on the bus discussed it amongst themselves, one after another.
"It's not a Ghost-type," Qiao Sang said.
"How do you know it isn't?" someone asked.
"You're the one who said you detected something, and you're the one saying it isn't. Are you playing with us?" the square-faced man shouted.
Qiao Sang looked directly at him and smiled. "Uncle, I feel like you've been targeting me from the very beginning."
The square-faced man's eyes widened, and he roared, "I'm only twenty-four!"
"Uncle, your voice is a bit loud," Qiao Sang said, picking at her ear.
The square-faced man glared at Qiao Sang with a ferocious, sinister expression. Had it not been for the Fire Fang Dog in front of her, he might have lunged at her the very next second.
"Why isn't it a Ghost-type?" the female student asked at that moment.
"That lady's pet is a Magne-Mouse. If a Ghost-type transcendent creature were nearby, its tail would form a lightning bolt shape, but right now, its tail is pointing straight down," Qiao Sang explained, pointing to the pet on the shoulder of the lady sitting next to them.
The female student froze for a moment. Recalling her studies, it seemed there was indeed such a thing...
Magne-Mice had magnetic field reactions and could sense unusual magnetic activity.
The unique magnetic field surrounding a Ghost-type transcendent creature would unconsciously stimulate the temporal lobe of a Magne-Mouse, indeed causing its tail to take a lightning-bolt shape.
But textbooks were textbooks; she hadn't expected to connect such niche knowledge to reality so suddenly.
"Yes, yes, my Magne-Mouse is indeed like that," the lady sitting nearby realized and nodded.
Hearing this, the female student no longer hesitated. "You, smell her."
Qiao Sang nodded to the Fire Fang Dog.
The Fire Fang Dog obediently leaned in toward the female student and began to sniff.
Qiao Sang noticed that the muscles in the face of the square-faced man standing nearby instantly tightened.
The Fire Fang Dog sniffed, sniffed the air a few more times, and then barked at the square-faced man.
"Stop barking, you damn dog!" the square-faced man snarled.
"Yar!"
The Fire Fang Dog's fur stood on end, its limbs tensed, and its sharp fangs were prominently exposed. It was clearly provoked by the man.
The square-faced man was startled, but he stubbornly refused to back down.
He looked toward the young girl holding the Fire Fang Dog, intending to make her control her pet, only to find that the girl was looking at him expressionlessly. Her gaze was so cold that it felt even more terrifying than the Fire Fang Dog...
Qiao Sang felt incredibly calm at this moment. She slowly stroked the Fire Fang Dog's back, attempting to keep it from lashing out.
She couldn't attack him first. The Alliance clearly stipulated that Beast Tamers were forbidden from using their pets to attack ordinary citizens. Even if she were to attack, she couldn't do it so overtly with a bus full of people.
This man was clearly problematic. When she had previously said the Fire Fang Dog sensed something, he had been the one reacting most intensely, and the dog had smelled the same scent on him as it had on the female student.
However, for something to suddenly appear on someone and then vanish, it couldn't be something the man
