Chapter 43

Red Rock City, one of the top three major cities in the Green Forest Province, was also Lynn's destination for this trip.

Compared to the previous small town, the walls of Red Rock City soared into the clouds, possessing a majestic and imposing presence.

The volume of people entering and exiting the city every day was massive, and an entry fee was required to enter Red Rock City.

Following the crowd, Lynn queued to pay the fee and slowly stepped into the city.

Just then, a magnificent horse galloped through the streets. The man on horseback wore ornate armor and possessed a commanding stature, swiftly cutting through the crowd and heading straight for the city gate.

The guards at the gate clearly recognized this man and immediately stepped forward to greet him.

"Orc, what is the situation in the towns below?"

Orc wore a helmet, making his expression difficult to discern, but his voice was clear and steady.

He shook his head and replied, "The same as always, nothing much happening. Even if there is, it's just trivial matters."

"Sigh, these lords have been working us to death lately. Not only do you all have to patrol various regions, but we gatekeepers also have to conduct thorough inspections; every little thing has to be reported."

The guard complained while looking at Orc.

Orc smiled and sighed, "Let's not talk about it. Once this busy period passes, I'll buy you all a drink."

He then spurred his horse into the city and disappeared into the crowd.

Lynn stood silently among the people, having intentionally dressed in an ordinary and plain manner. He looked no different from the majority of those entering the city, completely inconspicuous.

However, at that very moment, his gaze turned profound, and he thought to himself

"Such a grand display of movement... could this be the influence from the Nightshade Bunker?"

Wizards controlled the upper echelons of the nation; even the so-called nobles and city lords had to serve the wizards.

As long as there was a word from that side, it could clearly cause such a massive commotion.

"If that is indeed the case, then besides me, there should be quite a few other apprentices who escaped. Otherwise, such large-scale movements would be quite unnecessary."

Lynn murmured softly, making silent deductions.

The road leading to the Pale Moon Plateau was clearly not that simple.

However, since things had come to this, he could only take it one step at a time.

After paying the entry fee, Lynn successfully entered Red Rock City.

In this massive city of the Green Forest Province, the streets were paved with sturdy stones and were wide enough to accommodate three carriages traveling side by side.

On both sides of the streets, tall buildings stood in rows, and shops lined the way. It was incredibly bustling, filled with a surging flow of people and the unique vitality and vigor of a city.

Mixing into the crowd, Lynn first wandered around Red Rock City, paying particular attention to places like weapon shops and taverns.

Then, in his capacity as a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice, he began his "exceptionally diligent" work.

After a day of running about, by the afternoon, Lynn weighed the heavy coins in his pocket and decided to head to a weapon shop first. After some selection, he finally picked out a set of equipment that looked somewhat decent.

At this moment, wearing slightly worn armor with a longsword hanging at his waist, Lynn's image resembled that of an exiled knight.

After his physical constitution was enhanced by energy factors, it had reached 3. If not for his complete lack of swordsmanship experience, he would have been almost indistinguishable from a true knight's squire.

"Taverns have always been the places where information flows most freely..."

Thinking to himself, Lynn pushed open the wooden door of a tavern as night fell and stepped inside.

The tavern was brightly lit; the noisy crowd and the thick aroma of alcohol brought him a sense of familiarity.

He ordered a beer, found a seat at random, and swept his gaze across one of the tavern walls.

The wall was covered with all kinds of information: mission announcements, merchant requirements, and recruitment notices.

Lynn had originally intended to fish for useful information here, but he hadn't expected that this tavern was directly a mission distribution center.

Acting as a transit station, employers posted missions here, while bounty hunters accepted them and collected their rewards upon completion.

At this moment, many people were already gathered around the mission board, carefully selecting tasks suitable for them.

Lynn did not waste time; he used his mental strength to quickly scan and select the missions he needed.

Ultimately, he locked onto two missions. Both would take him to the Pale Moon Plateau: one was to escort a person, and the other was to escort cargo.

The employers for both missions provided horses, passage fees, and some funds for official bribes.

The only difference was that the person-escort mission required a good service attitude and forbade being fierce or aggressive, while the cargo-escort mission required rapid delivery and ensuring the safety of the goods.

Lynn did not want to deal with people, so he did not hesitate for a moment.

He effortlessly tore off the cargo mission slip and walked straight to the bartender, tossing the slip in front of him.

The bartender took the slip, turned, and walked toward a room deep within the tavern. After a while, he returned and signaled for Lynn to follow.

"Please follow me..."

Lynn followed the bartender out of the tavern to an open space behind the building.

At this time, a burly man was already waiting.

"The employer needs to ensure your strength. You don't mind, do you?"

The man, holding a longsword, stared at Lynn as he spoke.

Lynn nodded calmly; he had already noticed this requirement on the mission slip.

The pay for this mission was quite high, so it was only natural to have requirements regarding strength to keep the incompetent out.

"Let's begin."

"Swish!"

Before the words had even settled, the man had drawn his sword like lightning. The sword qi tore through the air, swift and fierce.

The sound of the air being sliced echoed in the night sky; the speed of the swordsmanship was staggering.

Lynn's gaze tightened slightly, and his body reacted instantly.

He did not use any complex swordsmanship; instead, relying on his extraordinary mental strength and intuition, he quickly locked onto the opponent's flaw.

"Clang!"

With a sweeping strike, the sharp longsword pressed against the opponent's neck without any hesitation.

"Stop!"

The opponent jerked to a halt, his eyes widening in shock as he stared at Lynn.

His heart raced wildly, and cold sweat instantly soaked his back.

If this had not been a test, but a life-and-death duel, he would have lost his life on the spot.

"What kind of swordsmanship is that..."

The burly man's throat felt dry as he asked.

"Did I pass?"

Lynn had no intention of answering, his voice indifferent.

He knew no swordsmanship at all. He had simply used his mental strength to maintain constant focus on the opponent, and the moment the opponent made a move, he used his mental strength to lock onto the weakness and thrust the sword out. That was all.

"Mm!"

The burly man shuddered, his expression becoming somewhat subtle.

The look in his eyes toward Lynn revealed a hint of awe and disbelief.

He himself was a powerhouse among knight squires; someone who could easily defeat him would likely be approaching the realm of a true knight.

He did not, however, believe that Lynn was a true knight, as a true knight would have no need to take such a mission.
