Chapter 46

The items on the man were a miscellaneous assortment, ranging from the gold and silver treasures common in the mortal world to the magic stones frequently used in wizardly trade.

Even more surprising was that he was carrying two books of wizardly knowledge.

One was a basic breathing technique, and the other was a worn and ancient family letter; simply put, it was a legacy left by Count Greenforest to his descendants.

The Greenforest Province, where the Emerald Island Great Forest was located, had close ties to this Count Greenforest. In fact, at the height of his power, he had personally controlled the entire Greenforest Province.

However, the great Count Greenforest had not been born into nobility; on the contrary, he was born into a family of slaves.

It was a legendary tale of a man who rose from a slave background to eventually become a Count and control an entire province.

Unfortunately, the family letter contained very little description of his past.

Only a single short page in the book seemed to be the Count's own narration.

He mentioned that the reason he was able to reach his position was entirely due to a fortuitous encounter in the Emerald Island Great Forest.

His description of that place of encounter was full of contradictions

"It is both heaven and hell. If I could return to my youth, I would never set foot in that place, even if the price was never becoming a Count."

Count Greenforest avoided discussing this experience, keeping his narration extremely brief.

The rest of the family letter mostly consisted of trivial matters between mortal nations.

Lynn scanned through the cluttered content quickly with his mental strength, filtering out irrelevant information and focusing on finding valuable clues.

A moment later, by piecing together the information gathered from the white-haired man, Lynn finally formed a complete picture.

As it turned out, this was a typical struggle among noble descendants for family inheritance.

The white-haired man and his employer were direct descendants of Count Greenforest; the two sides had even taken up arms against each other to fight for the Count's transcendent knowledge.

The two missions sent to the Azure Moon Plateau from Red Rock City were actually arranged by the same employer—one was to transport a person, and the other was to transport goods.

The reason Lynn knew this was because the white-haired man's faction had clearly sensed this, so they split into two groups to attack both parties separately.

According to the white-haired man's records, the target of the other mission—the one transporting a person—should be a granddaughter of Count Greenforest from many generations back.

A noble descendant, a beautiful woman... if Lynn had chosen the other path, the current development would likely have followed the plot of a traditional knight and beauty romance novel...

However, considering the current situation, that noblewoman had likely been intercepted by the white-haired man's accomplices, and the situation was clearly not optimistic.

Lynn did not care about the fate of Count Greenforest's descendants. He organized his findings and took what was useful to him from the white-haired man.

Aside from the magic stones and gold and silver, Lynn's greatest harvest was this green, ugly treant.

Count Greenforest's family letter contained detailed records regarding this type of treant.

Lynn knew that the reason this ugly treant appeared so withered was that it had not been maintained for a long time; it required specialized magic potions to return to its optimal state.

Clearly, Count Greenforest's direct descendants had fallen on hard times and were unable to produce the magic potions required to maintain the treant's integrity.

According to Count Greenforest's description, this treant was comparable to a Great Knight at its peak.

Although it lacked battle qi, as an inanimate object, it did not feel pain and had no physiological limitations; its strength far surpassed that of an ordinary Great Knight.

"It seems this harvest is quite good indeed."

Lynn was quite interested in the treant's full state.

Even if other wizard apprentices obtained this thing, they might be helpless, but he had studied potion-making and could attempt to refine the potions himself to maintain the treant.

"The name Count Greenforest gave you, 'Green Deity,' is too chuunibyou. I'll just call you Little Green."

Lynn couldn't help but smile, already coming up with a new name for the treant in his mind.

After storing Little Green in his spatial item, he continued searching the surroundings.

Even though the white-haired man had killed their horses, Lynn was certain that the man could not have arrived on foot.

Sure enough, not long after, he discovered a tall, magnificent steed tied to the ground not far away.

The horse had some stripes on its body, looking like it was not an ordinary breed.

"What a good man, giving me a treant and even upgrading my mount."

Lynn laughed self-deprecatingly, but he knew he was still on the run and could be trapped in danger at any moment.

He did not waste time, quickly jumped onto the steed, and continued galloping across the vast wilderness.

As he left the Greenforest Province, the familiar land receded into the distance, and everything seemed less oppressive.

There wasn't too much trouble on the surface here, nor were there many other forces requiring vigilance.

Traveling alone, combined with the excellent condition of the new horse, Lynn's travel speed increased significantly.

In less than seven days, he crossed the entire Blue Moon Province and successfully arrived at the edge of the Azure Moon Plateau.

During this period, Lynn's strength also improved; his mental strength reached 12 points, moving one step closer to the 15 points required for the perfection of a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice.

Both the Azure Moon Plateau and the Emerald Island Great Forest were considered perilous areas between heaven and earth; therefore, such places were basically uninhabited.

Only transcendent forces could survive in such perils in the eyes of mortals.

When Lynn galloped forward, following the map's guidance to the location of the Wilderness Cult, he discovered that the Furnace Army had already flattened the place; the Wilderness Cult no longer existed.

He stood in place, facing an endless plain. The entire plain was covered with strange-looking magical beasts, brandishing claws and teeth, their blood-red eyes flashing with ferocity.

And the markings on them clearly indicated that these magical beasts were all controlled by the Furnace troops!

"This is how the Furnace War is supposed to unfold—a Level 4 force exerting overwhelming pressure on a Level 3 force..."

Lynn recalled how incredibly bitter his journey had been: first being treated as a sacrificial army, then desperately fleeing the Nightshade Bunker, and then escaping through the mortal world for over half a month.

Meanwhile, the Furnace Army on the Azure Moon Plateau had long since swept through the Wilderness Cult and was waiting for the next instructions from their commander—the Black Dragon Witch.

However, due to the defeat in the Emerald Island Great Forest and the unknown fate of the Black Dragon Witch, the commander had given no further instructions, causing other fronts to enter a state of stagnation.

"Enough said. Bless the Black Dragon Witch."

Lynn chuckled. Thinking of the Black Dragon Witch's current state of unknown life or death made his mood slightly better.

Galloping forward, Lynn headed toward the Furnace Army. Only by arriving here would his mission of delivering the warning be considered complete, and he could finally return to the state of a free man.
