Chapter 34
The first wave of apprentices from the Forge surged toward the Nightshade Bunker like a tide, rushing toward that black canopy.
The Nightshade Bunker appeared exceptionally calm, making no attempt to use long-range sorcery to obstruct their advance.
It was not until the physical bodies of these Forge apprentices successfully breached the canopy and entered the perimeter of the Nightshade Bunker that the situation changed.
The Nightshade Bunker's anti-energy formation played a massive role, making the negative energy factors here far denser than in the outside world.
The moment the apprentices rushed into the canopy, the surrounding negative energy began to converge rapidly. Immediately following, waves of necromantic sorcery and negative energy spells erupted, launching fierce attacks against the intruders.
High in the sky, Astrid, mounted on the back of the black dragon, watched the battle calmly. Her purple eyes seemed capable of seeing into the far distance.
Her gaze was locked tightly onto the situation within the canopy.
This round of attacks from the Nightshade Bunker had been accumulating for a long time, and the power of its eruption was truly terrifying.
However, to Astrid's slight surprise, the casualties inflicted on the Forge apprentices by this wave of attacks were not as severe as she had expected.
She saw that although the incursion of negative energy caused large-scale chaos, nearly sixty percent of the apprentices still successfully broke through the canopy and entered the interior of the Nightshade Bunker.
She couldn't help but let out a slight smile.
"These apprentices trained by official wizards are indeed quite good; they are much stronger than ordinary apprentices."
"If only they had been there when we were prying open the cult's formation, we might have swept everything away on the very first day."
But the more she thought this, the colder Astrid's gaze became.
After all, if she hadn't personally returned to the Forge to forcibly summon these wizards' students, they would likely still be hiding inside the Forge right now.
"Even though their teachers are wizards, they are still just Forge apprentices. If they won't even participate in the Forge War, what use are they? If they cannot work for me, they might as well die here!"
The survival rate of the Forge's first charge was high, which was a good thing; at least the subsequent waves of apprentices wouldn't be instantly wiped out by successive spells.
"Second wave, charge!"
Soon, the second wave of Forge apprentices rapidly supplemented the ranks and pushed forward.
Facing the powerful anti-energy sorcery of the Nightshade Bunker, the Forge's plan was simple: use one physical impact after another to brute-force a bloody path through.
An official wizard of the Nightshade Bunker stood at the front line, observing the struggling apprentices with sharp eyes, whispering with a hint of surprise
"Hmm? So many actually survived. It seems the quality of these Forge apprentices is indeed not bad; no wonder they are trained by a Tier 4 power."
Although there was only a single realm of difference between a Tier 3 wizard and a Tier 4 wizard, this gap was reflected not only in strength but also in status and resources.
A Tier 4 power was far beyond what a Tier 3 power could compare to.
"Wait a little longer. The number of dead apprentices is still too low. It is not yet worth activating that spell."
The official wizard's tone carried a trace of coldness; he was clearly waiting for a more suitable moment.
………………………………
Lynn was blending into the army of Forge apprentices, rushing toward the increasingly close canopy.
By now, he had already distanced himself from Colin and Sonia.
After all, according to his and Colin's plan, the focus moving forward was to control the battlefield as much as possible and avoid charging directly at the enemy.
If he blended into a crowd, his target would be too large, making it easy to be discovered that he was "throwing" the fight.
"Kill!"
Ahead, several waves of apprentices had successfully widened the battle line; in some places, Forge apprentices were even engaged in melee combat with the warriors of the Nightshade Bunker.
Lynn kept Colin's hint in mind and did not think of fleeing, but his eyes were constantly scanning, looking for a suitable place to "fake" his combat.
Suddenly, from the direction of the Nightshade Bunker, the figure of an official wizard rose into the air, chanting incantations.
Immediately following, a thick aura of necromancy swept across the entire battlefield.
A violent wind rose, blowing Lynn's hood off and making his robes flutter wildly in the gale.
But he was not distracted by the storm; his gaze instantly focused, and the surrounding scenery gradually became clear.
The corpses on the battlefield, whether whole or mangled, began to tremble strangely.
Then, they actually stood up one after another, like soul-less puppets, rushing toward the Forge apprentices.
"Undead? Or zombies? But they don't seem to be able to use sorcery..."
Lynn dodged a lunging apprentice corpse, his mind analyzing rapidly.
Although these corpses lacked magical abilities, as zombies, their threat was still significant.
After all, a massive influx of corpses was enough to greatly disrupt the apprentices' spellcasting rhythm.
"Smash the corpses! If an apprentice dies beside you, smash their corpse too!"
A Tier 3 wizard apprentice shouted loudly, quickly alerting his comrades nearby.
Lynn quickly assessed the situation and continued to maneuver flexibly through the battlefield.
These corpses were not fast, and his constitution had been strengthened to 3 points after breaking through to a Tier 2 wizard apprentice.
Under these circumstances, he only needed to dodge to stall for a considerable amount of time, which perfectly suited his current plan.
However, just then, a sudden voice rang out, carrying a hint of joy and surprise
"Lynn! It really is you! Quick, save me!"
Lynn's brow furrowed; the voice was both familiar and strange.
He dodged a corpse lunging at him, turned around, and saw a wizard apprentice with a face full of surprise and ecstasy, with three corpses chasing closely behind him.
"Is that White, the one who was mixed in with Riley that day?"
Lynn's heart stirred as he quickly recalled the man's identity.
It was this White who had shouted his name back then, causing Riley to remember him.
The previous grudge between them had not yet been settled, and now, White actually wanted to divert the trouble toward him.
"White, Mental Strength: 7, Constitution: 2."
"So he's just a Tier 1 wizard apprentice. To have lived this long, his luck is indeed quite good..."
After Lynn scanned White's basic information with his crystal ball, a dangerous glint flashed faintly in his pupils, and he immediately began chanting a spell in a low voice.
"Lynn, help me deal with them! I have orders from the Forge!"
White's ecstasy was obvious; he thought he had finally found a lifeline and rushed toward Lynn urgently.
However, Lynn's preparations were already complete.
"Ice Arrow!"
Seeing the ice arrow take shape, White's face was filled with joy, and he began to feel fortunate in his heart that he had encountered a savior.
However, in the next second, the ice arrow suddenly shot out, piercing straight through White's chest.
The sharp chill of the ice arrow carried immense power, tearing White and the three pursuing corpses into fragments.
"There is no grudge between us, but since you've twice insisted on coming to me proactively, you can't blame me."
There was not a shred of guilt in Lynn's eyes; he even appeared calm and regretful—regretful for the small amount of mental strength he had just spent on the Ice Arrow.
Even though the Ice Arrow didn't consume much mental strength, this strike was a waste of a little bit of his energy.
Just as he was preparing to leave, his gaze suddenly froze.
Amidst the scattered fragments of White's corpse, a fist-sized yellow crystal emerged, emitting a faint light.
"This is..."
