Transmigrating to a Life of Honor and Wealth: Raising the Heir of the Childless Heir

Chapter 4: Where is her luck?

Qin Bi looked at the Lady Zhu, her heart aching: "Third Aunt, He Yan is a wife-killer."

She hadn't mentioned it before, but now it had to be brought up.

He Yan looked down on her?

The mere fact that he was a wife-killer was enough to be fatal.

Qin Bi spoke these words with great exhaustion; she was truly tired.

After transmigrating into this fictional dynasty, things were fine when she was young. But after her legitimate elder sister became betrothed to the Heir of Prince Rong, she was suppressed in every way. The Heir claimed she was calculating and told her sister to be on guard against her.

In the entire Marquis Qin Yan’s manor, having the Heir of Prince Rong suppressing her was enough.

The Heir of Prince Rong had a fate of killing his wives and having no heirs; her legitimate sister had passed away before they could even marry.

He Yan looked down on her for having been previously betrothed. Qin Bi felt wronged by this disdain. If He Yan and Rong Jun hadn't interfered back then, she would have been married long ago. Forget it, it wasn't worth mentioning; Qin Han had already married into that merchant family anyway.

The merchant's son didn't like her, he had his eyes on Qin Han. Not calling off the engagement was also a source of heartache.

Lady Zhu froze, speechless for a moment, and could only sigh. The Marquis Qin Yan’s manor was relatively harmonious, and the younger generation rarely schemed against one another. However, this time, Qin Bi’s betrothal to the Heir of Duke Yan was meant to pave the way for the second branch’s concubine-born daughter.

When all was said and done, Qin Bi was the one being sacrificed.

Qin He might not have had malicious intent, but the one who was hurt was Qin Bi.

Thinking of how close this child, Qin Bi, had been to her, Lady Zhu’s eyes grew moist. Feeling how cold Qin Bi’s hands were in the middle of summer, she pulled the quilt up for her: "Perhaps you will be fine. You were fine during the last marriage proposal."

On the other hand, Qin He of the second branch, whose fortune was not low, had vomited blood and collapsed the moment she left the capital with her family, nearly losing her life. Because of this, the marriage between the second branch and the Duke Yan’s manor was called off.

What else could they do? Qin He had been scared to death.

Qin Bi understood the implication in her Third Aunt’s words, and her heart grew weary: "I am already ill now."

The subtext was that she was being afflicted by He Yan’s fate. Qin Bi and He Yan were currently setting the wedding date; as long as she felt unwell, she could blame it on He Yan. After all, he was a wife-killer.

What could Lady Zhu do? She could only sigh. The Marquis manor was in decline and was counting on the Duke Yan’s manor.

Having spent so much time together, Lady Zhu was indeed closer to Qin Bi than her other nieces, but she didn't have the final say in the manor. She also had to think of her own children, and Qin Bi was a step behind them.

Lady Zhu rose to leave, and Qin Bi called out: "Third Aunt!"

Tears welled up and spilled over; helplessness, grievance, and all sorts of emotions were impossible to suppress.

Lady Zhu couldn't stay any longer. She mumbled something and called for Qin Lang to leave. Qin Lang looked back at his concubine-born cousin sitting on the bed crying, his heart aching, but he knew this marriage could not be called off.

After lunch, Qin Di came by.

"Has your young lady eaten?" Qin Di asked the maid.

The maid shook her head: "No."

Qin Di stepped into the room. Qin Bi had no other choice; seeing a relative made her cry and pour out her grievances. Qin Bi had only one goal: to call off the engagement. Pave the way for Qin He? Was she crazy? She couldn't swallow this insult.

Qin Di sat on a chair and only spoke after a long while: "The Duke Yan’s manor won't call off the engagement, so we can't."

After saying this, Qin Di left. Although she was a concubine-born daughter, she was still his child. If He Yan’s wife-killing fate didn't affect Qin Bi, that would be fine, but if it did, this child would be gone.

Qin Di was in a bad mood; he didn't eat that evening and didn't want to see Lady He.

Lady He sighed; the entire fourth branch felt stifled.

Qin Tang’s wife didn't dare to make a sound, trying her best not to get close, lest she be caught and scolded by her mother-in-law, Lady He.

Qin Bi was both angry and stifled, and now she was truly ill. She felt her own body failing; she was too lazy to move after waking from a nap, and her mind was foggy. She knew it in her heart, yet she was helpless.

Her sister-in-law visited Qin Bi every day, but Qin Bi’s crying left her feeling terrible.

When He Yan heard about it, he came over. Upon entering Qin Bi’s bedroom, Qin Bi’s eyes turned red at the sight of him. He Yan paused, his heart skipping a beat, and he immediately went over to take her pulse.

Lady He sat nearby, and Qin Di asked: "How is it?"

He Yan didn't speak; he took out a token and sent someone to fetch a physician.

The physician took her pulse for a moment and said bluntly: "Her heart-qi is knotted, damaging her spirit. I fear it will affect her lifespan."

Qin Bi stared at the quilt. She had known her lifespan would be damaged; she could feel it herself. Her body felt heavy, her mind foggy, as if separated by an illusory layer, feeling somewhat unreal.

Qin Di’s voice trembled: "Prescribe some medicine, we will nurse her back to health."

Qin Di and his wife went to the living room with the physician. He Yan had something to say to Qin Bi. Once everyone had left for the living room, He Yan sat on the edge of the bed, a completely different person from the cold, stern man of the other day.

He Yan said gently: "Still sulking? I was just speaking out of anger; you actually took it to heart."

Having said that, He Yan reached out, wanting to touch Qin Bi’s hand.

Qin Bi moved her hand away. He Yan’s movement paused, and he had to coax her: "I won't send Qin He gifts next time."

Qin Bi didn't feel happy: "Let's call off the engagement."

He Yan lowered his eyes: "We will marry once you are recovered."

He Yan had no intention of calling off the engagement, and Qin Bi’s head ached severely.

He Yan rose and left, sending people to deliver precious medicinal herbs. With less than a month until the wedding date, Qin Bi lay on the bed counting the days, her heart in a panic. When her father, brother, and legitimate mother came to see her, Qin Bi let it all out.

"Father, Brother, is the future really that important? That family looks down on me. The Heir is only marrying me for Qin He’s sake. They bully me to this extent, and you can't even call off the engagement." Qin Bi complained with grievances, crying as she said: "Don't blame me for complaining. I can only come to you when I've been wronged. If I don't come to my father and brother, who can I go to? Why did you give birth to me if you can't protect me?"

Qin Di’s heart ached, and Qin Tang clenched his fists.

Lady He was also angry at her maiden family, but she couldn't help but consider her son’s future. Qin Bi’s words made Qin Di and Qin Tang feel terrible. They didn't usually have much affection, but Qin Bi’s words pierced Qin Di’s heart.

Lady He didn't feel good either: "Your grandfather and eldest uncle won't listen to you; this marriage cannot be called off."

After a pause, Lady He decided to be direct: "Our Marquis manor won't be able to inherit the title after your eldest cousin."

How could Qin Bi not understand? She took a step back: "Fine, we won't call off the engagement. But after the wife-killing fate is broken, I will divorce and return, and you must support me." Saying this, Qin Bi’s tears fell like rain: "I have nowhere else to go."

Just as Qin Tang was about to speak, Qin Bi cut him off: "Don't talk to me about the wife-killing fate. I ask for nothing else. Father, you gave birth to me; can't you and my brother protect me just once?!"

Qin Di’s eyes turned red, and he called Qin Tang to go outside.

Qin Bi cried until she was exhausted and fell into a fitful sleep. Waking up stifled and unable to fall back asleep, Qin Bi knew that even if she didn't die, her lifespan would likely be affected. She wondered if this was a world of luck and fortune.

Where was her luck?!

Qin Di and his son went to find the Old Marquis. It was unknown what was said, but the Old Marquis sent the Marquis Qin Yan to the Duke Yan’s manor to propose a divorce after the marriage.

Qin Bi knew that for a declining Marquis manor, it was not easy for the Marquis Qin Yan to make this trip.

Qin Bi was grateful, and the stifling feeling in her heart eased slightly. She just waited for the Duke Yan’s manor to respond.
