Transmigrating to a Life of Honor and Wealth: Raising the Heir of the Childless Heir
Chapter 46: Sharing the Good Fortune
By marrying Qin Bi in the identity of He Yan, even if they were to divorce, no one would dare marry her.
If Rong Jun did not marry her, He Yan would eventually take Qin Bi back sooner or later.
If he took her back, it wouldn't just be that Rong Jun had a wife and child; both Rong Jun and He Yan possessed destinies that cursed their wives and left them childless. By marrying Qin Bi, Rong Jun's destiny had completely changed, whereas He Yan had failed to secure a union with even Qin He.
Thus, He Yan had gained nothing.
"When I have time, I shall make a trip to the Immortal Sect," King Rong said. "Back then, the diviner assigned your fate, stating you could only marry a woman from the Marquis of Yan's household. I didn't expect you to actually marry the right one."
In the past, King Rong had made the decision to betroth Rong Jun to the eldest legitimate daughter of the Marquis of Yan's fourth branch. Later, that daughter went to train in the small space of the Monster Realm and died there.
Therefore, that eldest daughter lacked fortune.
In everyone's eyes, Qin He was fortunate enough, but she had been betrothed to He Yan twice and nearly died both times, so she was also unsuitable. Only Qin Bi remained unscathed, leaving them with no other options.
King Rong knew well that Rong Jun had never liked Qin Bi.
He hadn't expected Rong Jun to actually marry the divorced Qin Bi; previously, Rong Jun had shown no such intention. Yet, who could have imagined that Rong Jun's destiny of cursing his wife and children would have no effect on Qin Bi?
One had to admit, the child Rong Yang was not easily come by.
Given Rong Jun's destiny, it would have been a blessing enough if he didn't curse his wife; to hope for a child was a luxury.
Yet, Qin Bi had given birth to Rong Yang.
"You are to spend the rest of your life with your wife," King Rong added. "Treat her well."
After saying this, King Rong felt it was redundant; Rong Jun already doted on his wife enough.
Rong Jun sat in his chair, his fingers tapping the tabletop, his expression unreadable.
With nothing else to do, and following Rong Jun's departure, the Emperor of Great Yan immediately summoned Rong Jun to the palace.
Upon hearing the news, Qin Bi hurriedly handed Rong Yang to Rong Jun. "You've been calling yourself a 'poor little thing' all day. It's not good. Take him to the palace to soak up some of the Emperor's fortune."
This was a cultivation world centered around fortune and providence; one could not afford not to believe in it. Going against the Heavenly Dao brought nothing but misery. Rong Yang already possessed significant fortune, so calling himself a "poor little thing" was inappropriate.
In the past, it was always Rong Jun who insisted on carrying Rong Yang to absorb the Emperor's fortune.
Now, Qin Bi also wanted the child to soak up some luck.
Rong Jun did not mind, and together with Qin Bi, he helped Rong Yang straighten his little cloak.
Rong Yang said, "Go soak up some fortune."
A smile touched Rong Jun's eyes as he carried Rong Yang into the palace. Sparse snowflakes, mixed with rain, fell from the sky. This sleet had arrived a bit late; had it come during the autumn planting season, they wouldn't have needed to invite people from the Immortal Sect.
Inside the imperial palace, the Emperor of Great Yan glanced at a memorial, set it aside, and took a sip of tea, clearly having no desire to approve any documents. Only when he saw Rong Jun arriving with Rong Yang did he perk up.
"In this sleet, why have you brought a child to the palace?" The Emperor gestured for Rong Jun to approach, wanting to have a chat. "Someone, bring a small hand warmer for the child."
A eunuch went to arrange it, and soon, a small hand warmer was brought in.
"I have brought Rong Yang to soak up His Majesty's fortune," Rong Jun stated.
An official's recognition of the Emperor's fortune served to consolidate the Emperor's perceived luck.
The Emperor of Great Yan happily took the little Rong Yang. "Only my imperial nephew can soak up my fortune like this."
The Emperor felt quite pleased with himself.
As Rong Jun took his seat, the Emperor gave a look to a eunuch. The clever little eunuch moved the memorials, placing them all in front of Rong Jun. Accustomed to this, Rong Jun picked up one.
"Soak up some fortune," Rong Yang mumbled, nestled in the Emperor's arms while eating melon seeds.
The Emperor glanced at the child; Rong Yang was not fussy at all.
"What is the meaning of this?" the Emperor finally asked. "I heard you took your wife and child to the Duke of Yan's manor? And Rong Yang even ran to the gates of He Yan's residence and called him 'Father'?"
The Emperor of Great Yan might appear simple and kind, but he was not without wit. He relied on these two powerful ministers and their heirs to run the state. Since Rong Jun now had a wife and child, using them to provoke He Yan was improper.
Rong Jun's gaze remained calmly on the memorial. Before he could speak, the Emperor asked again, "Was going to the Duke of Yan's manor your idea, or was it your wife Qin Bi's?"
The Emperor suspected Qin Bi had instigated Rong Jun to provoke He Yan. He Yan had no children, which was his weakness; because of this, the entire Duke of Yan's household had been giving benefits to Qin He's child.
Most likely, Qin Bi had acted out of jealousy.
"It was my idea," Rong Jun said while reviewing the memorial.
The Emperor was somewhat skeptical and told him, "Regardless of whether it was your idea or the Consort's, you must not provoke He Yan. To appease him, I have granted two hundred acres of fertile land to Qin He's child."
"What?" Rong Jun was furious.
"What?" A milky, childish voice cried out. Nestled in the Emperor's arms, Rong Yang was shocked.
The child was so surprised he stopped eating his seeds and hurriedly said to Rong Jun, "Father, we've been cheated!"
Indeed, Rong Jun also felt cheated.
The Emperor looked at Rong Jun and then at the little one, completely bewildered.
Rong Yang swung a tiny fist. "I only got fifty acres, and they were only second-grade fertile land!"
He had just received fifty acres from the Duke of Yan's manor, and his Imperial Uncle had immediately turned around and given two hundred acres to that "Fortune Baby." The child didn't even need to ask; if his Imperial Uncle gave it, it was bound to be first-grade fertile land.
He truly was a "poor little thing"!
The child was stunned.
Upon hearing "fifty acres," the Emperor understood. The secret guards had already reported that the child had demanded fifty acres of fertile land from He Yan. Looking at the expression of being struck by lightning, it was clear why.
Rong Jun was not one to suffer a loss. He said to the child, "We will go back and demand more from He Yan later."
Rong Yang said, "Okay!"
He popped a melon seed into his mouth, eating it to calm his nerves. My goodness, two hundred acres!
The Emperor's face hardened. "This is simply unreasonable."
Rong Jun picked up another memorial and said, "Whatever belongs to He Yan, belongs to our Rong Yang."
The Emperor froze and looked at Rong Jun. Rong Jun looked back but remained silent.
The Emperor quickly analyzed the meaning of those words. He looked again at the little one in his arms—the eyes, the features... The Emperor was startled and immediately turned to look at Rong Jun.
"Is Rong Yang..." The Emperor struggled to process it.
Rong Jun said with certainty, "My son."
Did the Emperor believe him? Looking at the little one again, the Emperor did not press the matter.
A child raised by Rong Jun was Rong Jun's. The Emperor was tight-lipped; unless Rong Jun had a legitimate second son, Rong Yang could only be his.
A little prince ran over. "I want to play with Brother Rong Yang."
Rong Yang felt he had soaked up enough fortune and asked Rong Jun, "Father?"
Rong Jun nodded. "Go play."
Having had his fill of fortune, Rong Yang waddled toward the little prince.
Taking some shelled melon seeds, Rong Yang shared them with the little prince. "Here, eat these."
The little prince unceremoniously took them. "Why are mine in shells? Yours don't have shells."
"My father peeled them for me," Rong Yang said, brimming with pride.
