Transmigrating Through the Interstellar: My Wife's Glory and My Honor
Chapter 5: Can't Figure It Out
In her past life, tea was ubiquitous and the first choice for welcoming guests, but in the future interstellar era, tea was a luxury beverage with a high price tag. Luo Bi’s family had limited means, so she didn’t drink tea often, but the taste had long been imprinted in her heart.
A faint, almost imperceptible scent of tea wafted toward her. As Luo Bi caught the familiar aroma, she suddenly realized something. The person who invited her had left, so who was going to pay the bill? She cursed Hua Chen under her breath for having no class.
Having been suddenly dumped, Luo Bi was in a foul mood. After settling the bill, she stood at the entrance staring at the terminal on her wrist, her fingers itching to act. In the end, she held back from immediately telling her family about the cancellation of the engagement; she decided to wait until she got home.
Luo Bi couldn't keep things to herself. Upon returning to the Wu Family Apothecary, she blurted out the news of the cancelled engagement. She didn't subscribe to the idea that family scandals shouldn't be aired; regardless of whether others wanted to hear it or not, she dumped it all on them first. At least once she had vented, she felt better.
As for whether others could handle it, that was none of her business.
"Sister Jiang Zhu, Hua Chen and I were getting along just fine. Why do you think he suddenly wanted to cancel the engagement?" Luo Bi still couldn't figure it out. She finally voiced her question, and because she was feeling agitated, she accidentally plucked a leaf off the top of a perfectly intact high-grade medicinal plant.
She nonchalantly applied medicinal liquid to seal the potency. Fortunately, the remedy was timely, and the plant wasn't ruined.
Jiang Zhu didn't notice that Luo Bi had nearly ruined a high-grade medicinal plant. She pondered for a moment and said, "Could it be because of Hua Ran’s damaged strong gene? Hua Ran is the most promising person in your family. Now that something has happened to him, it’s normal for the Hua family to have other ideas."
That was exactly what she had been thinking. Luo Bi felt restless and had no motivation to work; by the end of the day, her efficiency was less than half of what it usually was.
Wu Yue didn't say anything else and sent her home early: "Go back, adjust your mood, and work hard tomorrow."
It wasn't that Wu Yue had a particularly good temper; it was simply that Luo Bi’s technical skills were too high, and an average person couldn't replace her. Hiring someone else would be more trouble than it was worth. Moreover, aside from being difficult to deal with when she was in one of her moods, Luo Bi could do the work of two people, and the quality of her finished products was beyond reproach—even Wu Yue felt inferior to her. Over time, Wu Yue couldn't be bothered to put on airs as a supervisor; as long as Luo Bi worked well, he was satisfied.
Luo Bi’s home was about a fifteen-minute drive from Spirit Plant Street. A runabout couldn't match the speed of a hovercar, and by the time she slowly arrived home, the whole family was actually there.
Her father, Luo Hang, had recently been going on missions with mercenary groups frequently to earn more interstellar coins, and he was often nowhere to be seen for days at a time. Seeing her father the very day Hua Chen cancelled their engagement made Luo Bi feel a vague sense of unease, as if something she couldn't foresee had happened.
Luo Hang was leaning back on the sofa. Although he was trying his best to hide it, his expression was still poor from suppressed rage.
Luo Bi’s father in this life was not like her father in the previous one; he had a fiery temper and was a very upright man who wouldn't take any nonsense—he was absolutely to Luo Bi’s liking. Just because she found this father in this life agreeable, Luo Bi had once had a lapse in judgment and helped her father remarry, and the stepmother had incidentally brought a stepbrother into the house.
She had thought he would be a burden, but it turned out he was a high-potential strong-gene Thunder Flame Warrior. The Luo family had gotten a huge bargain.
Regardless of what her father thought, Luo Bi felt that her family had gained a great advantage. Her father had gained a son for free, and an S-rank strong-gene Thunder Flame Warrior at that. That would give any family a bit more confidence.
Her stepmother, Guan Zhuting, glanced at Luo Bi cautiously twice. Seeing no signs of her losing her temper, she called everyone to wash their hands and eat.
