Transmigrating Through the Interstellar: My Wife's Glory and My Honor
Chapter 3: Canceling the Engagement
Once Luo Bi left, Wu Yue and Jiang Zhu began discussing the affairs of Luo Bi’s household. The pharmacy had few staff, and since their mouths were idle while they worked, gossiping about others had become a daily routine.
Luo Bi was the same kind of person. Don’t let her usual "bestie" act with Jiang Zhu fool you; if Jiang Zhu wasn't around, she would talk about her behind her back with Wu Yue, just as she often talked about Wu Yue behind her back with Jiang Zhu.
Luo Bi lacked the virtue of other transmigrators who refused to speak ill of others behind their backs. Whoever it was, if she was bored, she, Jiang Zhu, and Wu Yue would critique them. In the small territory of the Wu Family Pharmacy, no one could stop their wagging tongues.
Xiangming Pavilion was not far from the Wu Family Pharmacy; it took five minutes to get there by hovercar.
Luo Bi entered Xiangming Pavilion, scanned the room, and spotted Hua Chen sitting by the window. She walked over with a smile and sat down.
Hua Chen glanced at Luo Bi, took a sip of tea, and said, "I have considered it repeatedly. We are not a good match. Let’s break off the engagement."
"Hmm?" Luo Bi initially thought she had misheard. She looked at the handsome man opposite her in confusion, her smile fading. Her hearing was excellent; she had heard exactly what Hua Chen said.
But the matter was so sudden that she had no defense. She tilted her head and blinked repeatedly, trying to find some clue on his face. There had been no signs before this; Hua Chen’s sudden proposal to break the engagement left her stunned.
Hua Chen sipped his tea with a calm expression, showing nothing on his face, but the clear sense of detachment made Luo Bi instantly clear-headed. Regardless of the reason, it was true that he wanted to call off the engagement.
"Not a good match?" Luo Bi smiled inexplicably, holding the handle of her teacup and turning it. Hua Chen was outstanding in appearance, a strong-gene Thunder Flame Warrior, and came from a decent family. Luo Bi had always assumed that when the time was right, they would naturally enter into a marriage contract.
Who would have thought that Hua Chen would want to break the engagement?
Clearly, something unexpected had happened on Hua Chen’s end. As for them not being a good match—they had been getting along just fine, and Luo Bi didn't believe such an obvious excuse.
Quickly sorting through her thoughts, Luo Bi probed, "Can you tell me the real reason?"
Luo Bi guessed it might have to do with Hua Ran’s damaged strong genes. She had hidden the fact that she had awakened; in everyone’s eyes, she was just an ordinary person. However, Hua Chen was a strong-gene Thunder Flame Warrior with an A-grade rating, so they were indeed not a good match. Eighty percent of the reason she and Hua Chen had been able to get engaged was because she had a stepbrother who was a highly potential strong-gene Thunder Flame Warrior.
Hua Ran and Hua Chen were cousins in the Hua family. For certain reasons, Hua Ran had left the family, only showing his true strength after joining the Zhihuang Planet military. The Hua family likely didn't want to give up on a promising junior, and upon learning that the Luo family branch residing on Zhihuang Planet intended to marry into the local garrison, they tacitly approved of Hua Chen’s engagement to the Luo family.
Now that Hua Ran’s strong genes were damaged, even if his life could be saved, he was mostly crippled. It was no surprise that the Hua family had decided to break the engagement.
Hua Chen looked at Luo Bi with a complex expression. Luo Bi couldn't decipher the meaning behind that look, only hearing him say, "You’re overthinking it. We just aren't a good match; there is no other reason."
After spending all this time together, he wouldn't even tell her the truth. Luo Bi felt a flicker of anger, and her favorability toward him dropped to the lowest point. Even that trace of regret vanished in an instant. She chuckled, "Alright then. Since that’s the case, let’s break the engagement."
Luo Bi was a transmigrator; she had never felt a sense of belonging to this interstellar world. A fiancé was just a fiancé. Aside from being a bit puzzled, there was nothing she couldn't bear to lose. If he wanted to cancel the engagement, then cancel it. Who cared?
