Transmigrated as an Ability-User Girl in the Eighties
Chapter 16: Silent Care
Thinking of this, Luo Qiao felt that she shouldn't go to the commune first tomorrow. It would be better to head up the mountain first; that way, she could find an excuse. Otherwise, what could she even do with those seven yuan?
Rising early the next day, Luo Qiao went to the kitchen to boil some porridge. Afterward, she returned to the kitchen in her space to make scallion pancakes and brought out some previously pickled dried radish and spicy cucumbers from the space.
By the time she finished washing up, the porridge in the kitchen was ready. She ladled out a large bowl to cool and put the rest into a basin to store in the space's warehouse.
After eating and cleaning the kitchen, she noticed there wasn't even a basket in the courtyard. She thought to herself that she would have to find someone who knew how to weave baskets later and have one made for her; it would be convenient for future use.
For now, she could only borrow one. After locking the door, she headed toward Lu Yichen's house, which was the closest.
The youth hostel was about five hundred meters away from Lu Yichen's house. Their area was considered on the outskirts of the village, a certain distance from the main settlement, situated near the Great Green Mountain.
That day, the Luo and Zhao families had intended to go to the foot of the Great Green Mountain to reason with the production team leader. The disagreement happened to break out right at the entrance of Lu Yichen's house, and unexpectedly, the two families came to blows when words failed.
In the chaos, Luo Qiao had been pushed down, hitting her head and losing consciousness. She had been placed in Lu Yichen's house for emergency care.
Luo Qiao knocked gently on Lu Yichen's door. A voice from inside asked, "Who is it?"
Luo Qiao replied softly, "It's me, Luo Qiao."
A moment later, the door opened. Lu Yichen looked at the thin, tall young girl outside. "It's so early. Is something wrong?"
Luo Qiao felt a bit embarrassed, fearing she had arrived too early. "Brother Lu, I wanted to ask if there is anyone in the village who knows how to weave a back basket?"
Lu Yichen didn't speak but instead turned and walked back into the courtyard. Luo Qiao thought she had come too early and was disturbing him.
Just as she was about to turn and leave, she saw Lu Yichen come out carrying a back basket. It looked brand new, and the size was just right for her.
Lu Yichen said, "No need to go buy one. Take this basket and use it."
Luo Qiao took the basket and asked, "How much is this?"
Lu Yichen waved his hand. "Just take it, no need for money. I wove it myself before, but it was a bit small and didn't suit me."
Seeing that Lu Yichen had already turned back toward the courtyard, Luo Qiao knew that if she insisted on paying, he likely wouldn't accept it. She called out toward the courtyard, "Then thank you, Brother Lu!"
As she turned to leave, she thought to herself that she would bring him some delicious food another day to repay the favor.
Hearing the footsteps walking away from the gate, Lu Yichen couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He gave a self-deprecating smile; he had clearly woven it specifically for the little girl a few days ago, yet he had to make up an excuse about the size being unsuitable for him.
Carrying the basket, Luo Qiao walked along the path toward the Great Green Mountain. Lately, she had been exercising every night when she entered her space. In her previous life, her parents were always flying around, busy with their own careers, and rarely had time to spend with her.
When she was eight years old, a child of one of her father's close friends was kidnapped for ransom. From then on, her father enrolled her in Taekwondo, Sanda, and free combat classes.
Perhaps she had some talent for sports, as she learned quite well. Despite being a girl, she could easily handle four or five grown men.
Furthermore, when the original owner of this body was sent to the farm with the Luo family, she had learned military boxing from Grandpa Yuan, who lived not far from her house. She had learned it quite well, earning high praise from the old man.
Before Grandpa Yuan passed away, he had told her not to be negligent and to persist in daily practice. The Luo family had heard of these things, but no one had taken them seriously.
