The School Beauty's Personal Bodyguard
Chapter 6: Who is this bumpkin?
There were quite a few luxury cars in the parking lot, ranging from Mercedes-Benz and BMWs to top-tier RVs.
Many were clearly personal vehicles, adorned with flashy decorations, which led to the conclusion that they were cars purchased by the group's employees themselves.
From this, one could indirectly infer just how high the salaries of the employees at Pengzhan Group were.
In this light, his own salary of thirty thousand yuan didn't seem all that high after all.
Guided by Uncle Fu, Lin Yi arrived next to a dark blue Bentley. The car was well-maintained; it was hard to tell if it had been bought recently or if it was just meticulously cared for, but it looked brand new.
"Mr. Lin, please get in."
Uncle Fu opened the front passenger door and gestured for him to enter.
"I'm sitting in the front passenger seat? Then what about the young miss later...?"
Lin Yi asked, hesitating for a moment.
"The young miss always sits in the back," Uncle Fu said. "She has a school bag, so it's not convenient for her to sit in the front."
Lin Yi nodded and got into the car. Uncle Fu drove slowly into the underground parking garage.
As they passed the security booth at the exit, several guards immediately stood at attention, watching the car leave with solemn expressions.
Uncle Fu’s driving technique was very skillful, though it was clear that it was of the conventional, by-the-book variety—not the same style Lin Yi was used to.
What Lin Yi had learned leaned more toward racing. There was no helping it; a famous saying from the old man back home was: "It’s not your fault if you can’t beat them, but if you can’t beat them and still can’t run away, then you deserve your bad luck."
Therefore, Lin Yi had learned quite a few escape techniques. Although he had only ever used them against the old man, in front of anyone else, it was always the other person who ended up running.
"Mr. Lin, do you know how to drive?"
While waiting at a red light, Uncle Fu glanced at Lin Yi, who was sitting quietly beside him, and asked.
Uncle Fu was a veteran driver and a good judge of character.
Usually, when someone sat in the car, he could always tell from certain details whether they knew how to drive. However, Lin Yi clearly showed no particular reaction, which is why Uncle Fu asked.
"A little bit."
Lin Yi thought to himself that as a newcomer, it was better to be humble.
"Do you have a driver's license?"
Uncle Fu didn't ask to what extent he knew how to drive; he knew how much trust his boss placed in this person.
"Not yet."
Lin Yi shook his head. Although he knew how to drive and had even raced cars abroad, he didn't have a license. "I just turned eighteen, and I haven't had the chance to get one yet."
"That's fine. Give me your ID card, and I'll help you get a license. That way, if Mr. Chu and I are busy, you can drive the young miss to and from school," Uncle Fu said.
The car stopped near a school that looked very luxurious, but it didn't pull up right to the entrance, likely because the car was too eye-catching and it would have a bad influence if other students saw it.
From the documents, Lin Yi had already learned that while Songshan City No. 1 High School was a private school, it wasn't the kind of aristocratic school one might imagine.
The school was a provincial key high school that recruited students from across the province based on entrance exams. Although there was no shortage of children of the powerful and wealthy who got in through connections, the majority of students were admitted based on their own merit.
Because it was backed by three major groups, Songshan No. 1 High School was a step ahead of other schools in terms of both facilities and teaching staff, which was the reason for its 100% college acceptance rate over the past few years.
In truth, Lin Yi understood that this 100% figure was definitely inflated. Some of the spoiled rich kids didn't study at all, but they still ended up in college—that was simply the power of their families' influence.
The familiar sound of the school bell rang, causing Lin Yi to lose focus for a moment. How many years had it been since he last heard that sound?
However, after a brief moment of distraction, Lin Yi returned to normal, his gaze resting calmly on the school playground.
Not long after, students began to emerge from the teaching buildings one after another.
Some wore school uniforms, while others wore casual clothes. Generally speaking, unless there was a major event, the school didn't have strict requirements regarding student attire.
"That is the young miss."
Uncle Fu suddenly raised his hand and pointed to a girl in the middle of a group of male and female students walking out not far away.
Lin Yi followed the direction of Uncle Fu's finger. It was a tall, beautiful girl. Although there were other girls around her, Lin Yi guessed at a glance that this must be the young miss.
Because the old man had said before that Chu Mengyao was the school beauty!
A "school beauty," as the name implied, should be the prettiest one, unless there was something wrong with Lin Yi's aesthetic judgment.
Although the girl next to her also had an outstanding appearance, her figure was more petite, which clearly didn't match the height listed in the documents.
However, she was also a potential candidate for school beauty; she was definitely the type who would grow up to be a heartbreaker.
Chu Mengyao and the other girl were walking quickly toward the car, but a few boys who looked like young playboys were chasing relentlessly behind them.
"Mengyao, wait up..."
One of the playboys blocked Chu Mengyao's path. "Mengyao, I'm sincere about you. Just give me a chance!"
Chu Mengyao frowned and looked at the boy in front of her with some impatience. "Zhong Pinliang, are you annoying or what? I've already told you, I don't like you. Stop bothering me."
"But..."
Zhong Pinliang wanted to say something else, but Chu Mengyao pushed him aside and left him standing there.
Chu Mengyao walked over quickly and opened the car door to get in. The girl with her also got in, which surprised Lin Yi slightly.
"This Zhong Pinliang is so annoying. He pesters me every single day. Doesn't he ever get tired?"
After getting into the car, Chu Mengyao was still complaining, but then she looked up and saw Lin Yi in the passenger seat. She was immediately startled. "Who are you?"
"Hello, my name is Lin Yi."
Lin Yi tried his best to look likable. This young miss's temper didn't seem very good.
"Lin Yi? Uncle Fu, what is he here for?"
Chu Mengyao looked at Lin Yi, feeling completely bewildered.
"Miss Chu, this is the study companion Mr. Chu hired for you..." Uncle Fu introduced.
"A study companion? Who asked for a study companion? Didn't I say I wanted to find a shield? Look at him—who could he possibly block for me?"
Chu Mengyao became anxious the moment she heard this. She looked Lin Yi up and down. What kind of outfit was this guy wearing?
A big undershirt and torn pants—he looked like a migrant worker who had just arrived in the city. Even a migrant worker wouldn't look as rustic as him. Did he just come back from Africa?
Uncle Fu broke into a cold sweat. He wiped his forehead and looked at Lin Yi helplessly, feeling relieved only when he saw that Lin Yi didn't have any particular reaction.
Uncle Fu was the person closest to Chu Pengzhan, so he knew some of the inside story. He knew how much effort it had taken to get Lin Yi to come, to the point that even the old man of the family had to step in.
