The School Beauty's Personal Bodyguard
Chapter 21: Failed Attempt to Intimidate
Wang Zhifeng was instantly startled after hearing Lin Yi's words; this kid must know something!
If Lin Yi had maintained a look of bewilderment, Wang Zhifeng would have been relieved. But because Lin Yi had uttered such a cryptic remark, even a fool like Wang Zhifeng could sense the underlying meaning.
Fortunately, Lin Yi's way of saying it implied that he had no intention of meddling in others' business, which allowed Wang Zhifeng to relax slightly.
Otherwise, if this matter reached the principal or the board of directors, his tenure as Director of Academic Affairs would be over.
"Heh!"
Wang Zhifeng gave a dry laugh. "Student Lin, if you encounter any trouble at school in the future, you can come to me anytime! Write down my mobile number in a moment!"
"Then thank you, Director Wang!"
Lin Yi hurriedly expressed his gratitude, feigning a look of trepidation.
Lin Yi knew his status was somewhat unique. His primary reason for attending school was for Chu Mengyao, so he would inevitably do some unconventional things within the school premises.
He couldn't go to Chu Pengzhan or Uncle Fu to handle every single incident; it would be better to use this opportunity to build a good relationship with Wang Zhifeng.
As it stood, his goal had been achieved.
He believed that as long as he didn't go too far, Wang Zhifeng would be able to help him handle things.
Following behind Wang Zhifeng, Lin Yi arrived at the door of Class 5, Grade 12.
Wang Zhifeng pushed the door open directly, waved to the homeroom teacher of Class 5, and said, "This is the new transfer student, Lin Yi. Please arrange a seat for him!"
Zhong Pinliang's eyes widened instantly upon seeing Lin Yi. That's right—wasn't this the kid who had kicked him yesterday?
He and Gao Xiaofu and Zhang Naipao had chased him for a long time early this morning but failed to catch him, letting the brat slip away. He never expected the kid to deliver himself right to their doorstep!
"My name is Lin Yi. Lin as in forest, Yi as in elegant."
After a brief self-introduction, Lin Yi was assigned a single desk at the very back of the classroom by the homeroom teacher.
There was no other way; although the teacher could tell Lin Yi had some background, it wasn't the start of the semester when seating was being arranged.
Since the seating chart was already fixed, the teacher couldn't make arbitrary adjustments and could only ask Lin Yi to settle for the back for now, with plans to reconsider later.
However, Lin Yi didn't care much about where he sat. He nodded readily and walked toward the last row.
While Lin Yi was introducing himself, Chu Mengyao kept her head bowed low, whereas Chen Yushu stared at Lin Yi with wide, curious eyes like a little inquisitive baby.
This gave Lin Yi a creepy sensation; this Chen girl was even more troublesome than the eldest Miss Chu!
Zhong Pinliang gave Zhang Naipao a meaningful look, because to get to his seat, Lin Yi had to pass right by Zhang Naipao.
Zhang Naipao gave Zhong Pinliang an "OK" gesture, indicating there was no problem.
Lin Yi had already noticed when he first entered the classroom that Zhong Pinliang was also a student in Class 5, so he had paid extra attention to him. Naturally, all those little movements did not escape Lin Yi's eyes.
As Lin Yi passed by Zhang Naipao, Zhang Naipao suddenly thrust out his right foot, intending to trip him!
Lin Yi gave a disdainful smile and prepared to kick back!
However, if he landed that kick, Zhang Naipao would surely end up with a fracture. Since it was Lin Yi's first day of school, he didn't want to cause too much trouble, so he simply stepped directly onto the top of Zhang Naipao's foot. Zhang Naipao immediately let out an "Ow!" in pain.
"Huh? What's this?"
Lin Yi glanced at Zhang Naipao as if he were completely oblivious, then said, "Sorry, I accidentally stepped on your foot!"
"Student Zhang Naipao, do you have a problem?"
The homeroom teacher, Mr. Liu, was well aware of Zhang Naipao's usual behavior, but since the boy usually hung out with students like Zhong Pinliang who had connections, Mr. Liu couldn't say much.
"No... no problem..."
Zhang Naipao's face turned red from the pain. He shook his head, enduring the numbness on the top of his foot.
Naturally, he wouldn't tell the teacher what Lin Yi had done; that would be too embarrassing.
Zhong Pinliang was further away and wasn't clear on what had happened between Zhang Naipao and Lin Yi. However, seeing that Lin Yi was fine while Zhang Naipao was the one making a fuss, he shot him a reproachful look.
Zhang Naipao had no way to voice his grievance and could only glare, thinking to himself that he would definitely get his revenge after class.
He didn't know if Lin Yi had done it on purpose or not, because Lin Yi hadn't looked down at his feet while walking.
Looking at Lin Yi's apologetic attitude just now, it really seemed like he didn't know what happened, which left Zhang Naipao feeling extremely frustrated.
Lin Yi's seat was not far from Chu Mengyao and Chen Yushu. He could see them just by looking up, making this a good choice to keep an eye on their movements at any time.
After all, his primary responsibility was to look after Chu Mengyao; he was being paid for it.
The first day of school was quite novel for Lin Yi. He had never actually been in a classroom; he had only seen classrooms, schools, and students in class through the internet.
Lin Yi opened his bag and took out his physics textbook. Today's first period was physics; he had already confirmed this by checking the schedule earlier.
"It's Lin Yi's first day, so I hope everyone can look after our new classmate. Additionally, I do not want to see any bullying of new students. We are already in our senior year, and I especially do not want anyone to fail to receive their graduation certificate because of such things."
Mr. Liu felt the need to issue a warning to Zhong Pinliang, Zhang Naipao, and the others.
Especially Zhong Pinliang—this guy could do just about anything and was known as one of the "Four Great Villains" of the campus; bullying classmates was practically a daily routine for him.
Of course, Zhong Pinliang treated the words as nothing more than wind passing his ears.
As Lin Yi was flipping through his book, a small crumpled piece of paper suddenly landed on his desk. Lin Yi was momentarily stunned.
He thought to himself: *Is Zhang Naipao really that low-class? Throwing paper balls at me after being stepped on? Is he in kindergarten?*
Lin Yi looked up, only to find Chen Yushu looking at him with a beaming smile. Lin Yi felt a sudden chill; could this paper ball have been thrown by this girl?
Chen Yushu pointed at the paper ball on Lin Yi's desk and then turned away.
Lin Yi was slightly taken aback. He looked at the note on his desk, then at Chen Yushu's retreating figure, thinking: *Could this be the legendary "passing notes" thing?*
Sigh, if only a beautiful and gentle girl would pass me a note. Chen Yushu only met one of those criteria—she was beautiful, but gentleness was out of the question.
Lin Yi slowly unfolded the note. He didn't even consider that Chen Yushu might be writing him a love letter; it had to be something else.
Sure enough, after unfolding the paper, Lin Yi saw a line of delicate, small handwriting. If Lin Yi weren't so familiar with Chen Yushu's personality, he would have certainly mistaken her for a lady.
