The First Night of the Substitute Bride's Military Life: The Ascetic Tycoon Drops His Act

Chapter 8: His Younger Sister

Wen Ci sighed softly.

She was utterly speechless at a man like Jiang Chen.

Clearly, she was his real sister. She could understand him favoring his fake sister—after all, they had grown up together—but he shouldn't treat his biological sister like an enemy.

"Who is this?" a man familiar with Jiang Chen asked.

Wen Ci curled her lips: "His sister."

Hearing this, the man in military uniform standing next to Jiang Chen widened his eyes: "Jiang Chen, no wonder you wouldn't introduce your sister to us. So she’s a beauty as fair as a celestial being."

Jiang Chen’s expression turned sour. Since he couldn't deny the fact in public, he forced a smile: "Yeah, she’s my sister."

The man walked up to Wen Ci and joked with a smile: "I’ve long heard that little sister Jiang Ye was as beautiful as a celestial being. Seeing you today, it’s truly the case. I’m your brother’s comrade-in-arms, Xu Jinge."

Jiang Chen was also a soldier, currently serving as a squad leader.

"My name isn't Jiang Ye."

"Huh?" Xu Jinge blinked. He often heard Jiang Chen mention his little sister "Little Ye," so he assumed her name was Jiang Ye.

Wen Ci’s smile reached her eyes as she threw the question back to Jiang Chen: "Brother, is my name Jiang Ye? Or do you have other sisters?"

"Have you forgotten that our cousin is named Jiang Ye?" Jiang Chen was sweating profusely. After racking his brain, he changed the subject and asked: "When do you and Huo Jingyuan plan to move to the military base?"

Few people in the compound knew that Wen Ci and Huo Jingyuan were married.

As soon as these words were spoken, they instantly attracted the attention of many.

Many people in the military compound were subordinates of Elder Huo.

Seeing everyone’s gazes turning toward her, and just as it was her turn, the auntie at the window asked: "Little girl, what would you like?"

"I want this, this, and this."

The auntie at the cafeteria took Wen Ci’s enamel bowl. She looked at Wen Ci with shock in her eyes, her eyes brimming with tears, and asked with a choked voice: "What is your relation to Chief Huo?"

Every enamel bowl had the name of the person it was awarded to.

Before he passed away, Chief Huo only ate food from the cafeteria.

Everyone responsible for serving food in the cafeteria knew this bowl belonged to him.

Seeing this bowl again now, they couldn't help but tear up.

Seeing this, Jiang Chen added fuel to the fire: "My sister has already married Chief Huo’s grandson. In a few days, they are moving to the Northwest with the military."

"Really?"

Wen Ci nodded: "Yes."

She didn't intend to explain the complicated details; she was already starving. "Auntie, can you serve my food first? I’m waiting to go back and eat."

Hearing this, the auntie in charge of serving food sobbed, then used the large ladle to fill the enamel bowl to the brim.

Wen Ci asked: "How much is it?"

"No need to pay!"

Wen Ci shook her head repeatedly: "No, no, that won't do."

"There’s nothing that won't do. My husband was a soldier under Chief Huo. After my husband died in battle, I’ve been taken care of by the Chief all these years."

Wen Ci’s gaze was firm: "One thing is one thing, the other is another. You must take the money."

"I'll pay for it," Jiang Chen said.

Jiang Chen had been standing behind Wen Ci. Hearing the faint growling of her stomach, he knew that if they kept talking in the cafeteria, his biological "sister" might never get to go back!

Wen Ci turned her head to look at Jiang Chen: "Thanks, brother."

Immediately after, Wen Ci took the enamel bowl from the auntie and hurried out of the cafeteria.

On the other side, Huo Jingyuan finished kneading the dough and planned to let it rest for half an hour. After washing his hands, he walked over to the landline in the living room.

The landline at home had never been disconnected, so he could make calls.
