The Farm Girl Consort's Fame Shakes the World

Chapter 1: Driven Out

Chapter 1: Being Driven Out

Beneath a withered vine and an old tree stood a pigsty, where two fat, well-fed pigs were squealing happily.

Next to the pigsty was a thatched hut, and at this moment, the people inside were arguing just as loudly.

*So noisy!* Wen Nuan’s head throbbed. She wanted to open her eyes, but waves of dizziness washed over her.

"I don't care! You must throw this jinx out right now, or else don't bother staying in this woodshed! Old man, do something! If you don't, how will you have the face to face the ancestors of the Wen family?!" A woman wearing a silver hairpin, with pale skin, high cheekbones, triangular eyes, and thin lips, dressed in a brocade jacket and skirt—clearly a difficult person to deal with—shouted sternly.

The doctor had said that if this jinx didn't wake up tonight, they should prepare for the funeral.

Her eldest grandson was getting married next month. She absolutely could not let this unlucky creature clash with her grandson’s joyous occasion and ruin his fortune; he was destined to pass the imperial examinations and become a high-ranking official.

Besides, she had long wanted to drive this unlucky family away!

How could she miss such a perfect opportunity?

Old Master Wen listened to his secondary wife. He walked to the bed and checked the girl’s breath; it was barely perceptible.

His heart sank. He was truly worried that if she died just like this, it would clash with Liang-ge’er’s wedding and ruin the eldest branch’s luck!

Looking at how the fourth branch’s future had already been dragged down by her, he looked at his legal wife: "Guizhi, Nuan-jie’er is about to go. She’s almost stopped breathing; what’s the difference between her and a corpse? Hurry up, roll her in a mat and throw her out! You don’t want the whole family to be dragged to their deaths by her, do you?"

"Old man, a family shares both fortune and misfortune; what do you mean by 'dragged down'? Besides, this is your granddaughter! A living human life—how can you be so heartless to just throw her away? I won't do it! Nuan-jie’er has great fortune; she will definitely be fine. We will stay in this woodshed and not go out, not even to the main house for three months. We absolutely won't clash with your eldest grandson!" an old woman with gray hair, a thin frame, a gaunt face, and a face full of wrinkles said, wiping away tears.

That was a human life, not a piece of meat. How could he talk about throwing her away so easily!

"Father, I beg you, don't throw Nuan-jie’er away. She will be fine. She has survived all these years; she will definitely be fine this time too. Please don't throw her away. I promise that in the coming days, we won't step half a step out of this woodshed! We won't clash with Liang-ge’er," Madam Wu said, kneeling down with red eyes.

Her Nuan-jie’er had such a bitter life.

The two children standing in the corner saw their mother kneel and followed suit, tugging at Old Master Wen’s pant legs and crying, "Grandfather, don't throw away Third Sister. She will definitely get better! We won't go out, we won't go out ever again!"

"That’s right, we won't go out, we won't clash with Big Brother! Please, Grandfather, don't throw away Third Sister. She will be fine!"

"No! There is no room for discussion! Just because you don't go out doesn't mean she won't die! Are you going to keep a corpse in the room? Death is bad luck! You heartless people just can't stand to see us do well; you want to stop Liang-ge’er from passing the exams and keep the Wen family from ever getting ahead!" Madam Zhu glared with a sinister expression at the girl lying on the bed, whose face was pale and whose chest had stopped rising and falling.

She was clearly about to die!

"No, it won't happen! Grandfather, don't throw away Sister, she won't die..."

"Old man, is your heart made of flesh? Nuan-jie’er is a living person! How can you be so vicious!"

"This..." Old Master Wen looked at his two grandsons crying with tear-streaked faces and hesitated.

He didn't want to be a heartless grandfather or commit such an immoral act.

But his eldest grandson’s fortune...

"If you won't throw her out, I will!" Seeing Old Master Wen hesitate, Madam Zhu immediately rushed to the bedside, scooped the girl up, and bolted for the door.

Fortunately, this jinx was so sickly and thin she was like a piece of paper, otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to carry her.

Madam Zhu’s actions were too sudden. Madam Wang was startled and rushed forward to snatch her granddaughter back.

"Zhu! Put Nuan-jie’er down! If you drop her, I’ll fight you to the death!"

Madam Zhu held the girl tightly, refusing to let Madam Wang take her: "No! I absolutely cannot let this jinx harm my family!"

The two women each grabbed an end of the girl, neither willing to give way!

"Nuan-jie’er is not a jinx! Zhu, let go! Or I’ll fight you!"

"I won't! Either you throw this short-lived creature away, or you move out! Don't pass your bad luck to us!"

The two women stared each other down, neither yielding.

Madam Wu stood by, terrified. She kept her hands half-extended, ready to catch her daughter if she were dropped. The two children circled them, frantic and not knowing what to do, calling out "Sister, Sister."

Old Master Wen frowned: "Zhu, put her down. Let’s discuss this properly!"

"No!" Madam Zhu pulled hard, trying to walk out.

Madam Wang held on tight, refusing to let go.

"Let... go," a weak, breathless voice sounded.

Wen Nuan felt like she was being strangled; her chest was being squeezed so tightly she couldn't breathe.

"Nuan-jie’er! Nuan-jie’er is awake!" Madam Wu, who had been staring intently at her daughter, said in surprise.

"Third Sister said let go! Second Grandmother, let go!" the little girl cried out anxiously.

"No! So what if she’s awake? Maybe it’s just a final burst of energy! Old man, help me! Throw her out! Don't you want Liang-ge’er to pass the exams? If Liang-ge’er is cursed by this unlucky money-loser and fails, I’ll fight you to the death! The ancestors of the Wen family will fight you too!" Madam Zhu squeezed Wen Nuan tightly, refusing to let go, her words firing like a machine gun.

Wen Nuan’s eyes rolled back. Her body was so weak she didn't even have the strength to struggle!

"Let go, you’re strangling Third Sister!" The little boy, in a moment of desperation, bit Madam Zhu’s arm.

Madam Zhu cried out in pain and loosened her grip.

Wen Nuan’s upper body slumped downward!

Madam Wu caught her with lightning speed and pulled her tightly into her arms.

Wen Nuan felt a wave of dizziness and total exhaustion.

What kind of tofu-like body was this? It was completely limp!

Madam Wang said anxiously: "Quick, put Nuan-jie’er on the bed."

Madam Wu hurriedly placed Wen Nuan back on the bed and shielded her.

Madam Zhu, having been bitten, slapped the little boy across the face: "You little beast! How dare you bite me! A bitch’s spawn is just a bitch!"

The little boy was knocked to the ground, a tooth knocked out, and his face swelled up visibly, with five distinct finger marks.

"Bad person!" Seeing her brother hit, the little girl charged at Madam Zhu, using her head to ram into her.

Madam Zhu was knocked back a few steps, nearly falling over.

"You little bitch!" She steadied herself and raised her hand to strike again.

"Zhu! You bitch, I’ll fight you!" Seeing Madam Zhu dare to hit her grandson, Madam Wang rushed over, grabbed her hand, and slapped her across the face with her other hand.

"Wang, you shrew!" Madam Zhu screamed in shock and reached out to claw at Madam Wang’s face.

And so, the secondary wife and the legal wife of Old Master Wen successfully started a brawl.
