Chapter 39: A Dim Halo
Chapter 39: A Dim Halo
Having finished the bread juice, Moran could only gnaw on a few pieces of breadfruit before bed to marginally accelerate her mana recovery.
She still didn't know when she would learn cooking magic to help her juice the fruit.
Should she make a manual juicer in advance?
She wondered if it could be turned into a card.
If so, could honey breadfruit juice also be made directly into a card?
No, wait—if she could make a honey breadfruit juice card, she might as well just make a mana recovery card!
And what about magic? Could she create magic cards?
Moran lay in bed, her thoughts gradually drifting. It took a long time before she finally fell asleep.
In her dreams, card games, board games, and literary works from her memories of Blue Star flashed through her mind, giving birth to countless inspirations.
Consequently, the first thing Moran did after being awakened by the academy castle bells in the morning was to rush to her desk and pick up a pen to record all those inspirations from her dream, lest she forget them.
After finishing, she summoned the Book of Cards; the two cards she had crafted yesterday were both stored within it.
She took out {Character Card - Intermediate - Moran} and looked at the mana column.
[Mana: 180/989 Mana]
An entire night had passed, roughly six hours, and her mana had recovered from 143 to 180.
Senior Lilith had said that the rate of mana recovery was proportional to the remaining mana.
Whatever amount of mana remained before midnight would be the amount that could be recovered over the next twenty-four hours.
At most, one could recover half of the total mana capacity.
If mana were completely exhausted, leaving nothing at all, the process of going from zero to one would take seven full days and nights.
Looking at it this way, the breadfruit she ate before bed yesterday had only helped her recover less than two mana.
It seemed she not only needed to find a way to keep mana-supplementing items on hand but also try her best not to let her mana drop below 50%.
Only then could she ensure that the mana consumed each day would be fully recovered by the next day.
Since there wasn't enough time to make breadfruit juice in the morning, Moran took a piece of breadfruit with her as she headed out to class.
"Moran! Why are you eating breadfruit again!" Sylph was extremely shocked when she saw the fruit in Moran's hand.
Since they had already researched honey breadfruit juice and breadfruit cake, wasn't eating this just being hard on one's own tongue?
Moran sighed. "I didn't have time to make juice, so I can only eat this to replenish my mana."
Compared to waiting two or three days for her mana to recover naturally, she would rather suffer a bit for the sake of her taste buds.
Anyway, she had gnawed on enough breadfruit in the past days.
When she returned in the evening, she could make some more breadfruit juice.
Hearing this, Vasida opened her energy vision. She was startled by what she saw
"Moran, why is your energy halo so dim again? It was quite bright yesterday; wasn't it almost fully recovered?"
"I was studying the Book of Cards last night, and then..."
"And then you were drained again?" At the thought of Moran fainting a few days ago, Vasida's heart jumped. "You didn't faint again last night, did you!"
Vasida would go to the breadfruit grove whenever she felt like it, stuffing clusters of fruit into her Devouring Stomach. Her mana was always full and her energy halo was always bright, so she had no concept of how much mana corresponded to a specific brightness of the halo.
Moran shook her head and, instead, happily shared with them, "Don't worry, I'm fine! I know how to use my Talent Manifestation now!"
As she spoke, she took out two cards. "Look! I spent all my mana on these two."
"Wow! So beautiful! But what are these?" Sylph and Vasida asked curiously as they looked at the exquisite cards.
They could only understand the patterns and designs, but they couldn't read the text on the cards.
"These are cards I made using the Book of Cards, but since it was my first time, I instinctively used Chinese characters from Blue Star.
Like this one, {Book of Cards}, it assists me in developing my Talent Manifestation.
When designing and making cards, it clearly provides prompts for any problems or areas that need improvement.
And this one assists me in increasing my own strength.
Then there is this {Character Card}; once bound, it accurately displays my race, level, mana capacity, and the magic I have mastered.
It shows here that my mana limit is 989 mana, and I currently have 180 mana remaining. It's much more convenient and accurate than looking at my energy halo..."
Moran pointed to the text on the cards and explained them one by one.
"It's that convenient?" Although Vasida and Sylph couldn't understand the text, they were deeply shocked.
"Of course!" Moran grinned foolishly with excitement. "I finally know how to develop my Talent Manifestation!"
"That's wonderful!" This time, it was Vasida's turn to be envious. "My Devouring Stomach only knows 'hungry' and 'eat.' It can't provide any clearer inspiration at all! All I can do is try to eat as much as possible to satisfy it and see if I can develop more functions!"
"Just your ability to convert food into mana is enough to make every witch envious, okay?"
Moran still had many ideas, but they were all limited by her mana, preventing her from testing them.
She was now like Senior Lilith, hoping that Vasida would quickly develop the corresponding witch magic to provide her with another channel for rapid mana replenishment.
"Stop saying 'I envy you' to each other! I'm the one with the slowest progress!
I just planted the Windbell Flower in a pot, and it hasn't even sprouted yet. I don't know what special function the Box of Myriad Species has, nor do I know how to further develop it..."
Sylph said with a bitter smile.
She wasn't like Vasida, driven by agonizing hunger, which allowed her to quickly discover the energy conversion function of her Talent Manifestation.
Nor was she like Moran, who worked silently and not only found the use of her Talent Manifestation but also instantly developed two very useful cards.
Even with her easygoing and patient temperament, she was beginning to worry about the progress of her Talent Manifestation's development.
And because of this worry, she couldn't help but place her expectations on Moran
"Moran, if only you could create some kind of card magic that guides the development of Talent Manifestations!"
Compared to her own direction of development, which lacked any clue or progress, Moran's card magic was something one could actually rely on.
Although Vasida was also looking forward to it, she knew it wouldn't be easy
"Witch magic requires sufficient research and understanding of the Talent Manifestation. The witch magic of the seniors took many years of research to mature."
At least for her, she still didn't know how to summarize her own witch magic.
"Sigh!" Sylph sighed; she knew this was the reality.
"Actually, it might not necessarily be so..." Moran rubbed her nose and said with a hint of uncertainty
"My cards, once created, have physical forms, and they can exist independently of the Book of Cards. Strictly speaking, each card is like... a magic item produced by the Book of Cards."
