Chapter 23: Restoring Magic Power
Chapter 23: Recovering Magic Power
Seeing Moran enduring the sourness just to eat, Sylph showed a look of pity
"Senior Lilith! Is it really that hard to speed up magic recovery? Is there no other way besides Breadfruit? I heard that human mages can recover magic power through meditation..."
Lilith shook her head: "Whether we are witches or warlocks, our power stems from our bloodline.
Not only can we not increase our power through meditation like human mages, but we cannot rely on meditation to recover it either.
Our power only grows naturally as we grow and use it continuously, and it can only recover naturally with the passage of time and bodily adjustment.
To accelerate this process, one must rely on external forces.
Magic potions, magical items, and such can achieve this.
But that applies to magic power itself.
The level of magic power is too high; the recovery effects of low-level potions and magical items cannot even compare to our natural recovery!
Even for a witch like us who hasn't fully matured, at least high-level recovery potions are required to be effective.
As for me, my research focus isn't on potions for the time being, so I haven't been able to make high-level recovery potions yet.
Besides, I once traded with a senior student to try a high-level potion, and it wasn't even as good as Breadfruit!
Don't let the bad taste of Breadfruit fool you; its effect on accelerating energy recovery is excellent. Other little witches can ensure their magic power is constantly replenished just by nibbling on two bites a day."
"It seems I have no choice but to eat this Breadfruit." Moran took this lesson to heart; she would have to be cautious with her magic usage in the future.
She felt that magic was much like blood; she couldn't just let the bottle run empty.
"That is how it is now, but there might be a turning point in the future." Lilith looked toward Vasida, her meaning unspoken.
Given the nature of her talent's manifestation, her witch magic was the most likely to have the effect of accelerating magic recovery.
Vasida suddenly felt the weight of responsibility on her shoulders grow significantly.
Since Moran was fine, Lilith and the others did not stay long.
After they left, Moran forced herself to finish the Breadfruit.
Her magic hadn't recovered much, but she was certainly stuffed to death.
She was so full she couldn't sleep, and she didn't dare summon the Book of Cards to read, so she simply went to the courtyard to pull weeds to aid her digestion.
It was already dark outside, but fortunately, thanks to the streetlights and the light spilling from the dormitories, the courtyard was still visible.
After tinkering in the courtyard for over an hour and feeling that her stomach wasn't as bloated, Moran immediately took out more Breadfruit to eat.
She ate, then felt empty; she felt empty, then ate. She worked until the early hours of the morning, and only after clearing all the weeds in the front yard did she go to bed.
After sleeping for a few hours, she was up again when the six o'clock bell rang.
For breakfast, she continued with Breadfruit.
No matter how many times she ate it, every time she picked it up, it felt like heading into battle.
Moran ate with gritted teeth: "Can this Breadfruit really not be cooked at all? Maybe... I should try?"
If she said she'd try, she'd try!
She didn't believe that with all the culinary culture of Planet Blue, she couldn't figure out a way to prepare a Breadfruit!
Moran recalled memories from Planet Blue regarding how to remove the acidity of highly acidic fruits to use as a reference.
"The most common way to eat sour fruits is to preserve them in sugar to make candied fruit, using sweetness to neutralize the acidity.
However, making preserves requires boiling, and Senior Lilith said that Breadfruit explodes when heated.
I just don't know what kind of explosion it will be. If it explodes too badly to make preserves, making a fruit paste similar to sour jujube cake might be good.
If all else fails, I could pickle it with salt, sugar, or chili, like making plums, using soy sauce or paste.
That doesn't require heating.
And if that doesn't work, I could coat the surface of the Breadfruit in syrup, like making candied hawthorns, to make candied Breadfruit..."
Grateful to the great cuisine of China, Moran was suddenly flooded with inspiration.
However, she hadn't brought back many seasonings the day before yesterday; she only had a little sugar and salt, which wasn't enough, and she only had three or four Breadfruits left.
Thus, she wasn't in a hurry to pull the weeds in the backyard and headed straight out with a basket.
"Moran, are you feeling better today?" Vasida asked as she saw her coming out while tidying the backyard.
"Much better!" Moran said.
Vasida saw her carrying a vegetable basket: "Going to collect ingredients?"
"Yes!" Moran replied.
"Wait, I'll go with you!"
Vasida had almost finished tidying her backyard, but she hadn't been to the ingredient collection point yet.
She had learned two dishes from Moran the day before yesterday, but she hadn't practiced them much herself.
Passing by the farmland, Moran glanced inside and saw a familiar silhouette: "Is that Sylph?"
Vasida stood on her tiptoes to look: "It looks like it! What is she doing there?"
"She's probably chatting with Brier!" Moran said.
"That Green Leaf Fairy who loves listening to stories?" Vasida had also heard other little witches mention her.
"Yeah," Moran said. "Sylph is different from the other little witches. She probably genuinely likes the fairies themselves, so she doesn't care as much about the contract..."
"So you're the same, just wanting a free gardener!"
The elusive Brier gave Vasida a fright.
"First time meeting you, little witch. Welcome to the planting zone, I am Brier, the intern management fairy of Farm No. 8!"
"Hello? I am Vasida." After recovering, Vasida looked curiously at this uniquely rumored little fairy.
Brier also gave Vasida a few raspberries wrapped in leaves before returning to Sylph's side.
In the field, Sylph waved to them from a distance.
Moran and Vasida did not disturb Sylph and Brier further and continued toward the ingredient collection point.
"Does Brier really want to form a contract with a witch? Is she really just deceiving everyone to hear stories?"
Vasida was very puzzled: "If that were the case, it would be one thing, but if not, a witch's contract is already friendly enough for a fairy. Is there really a need to be so cautious?
A witch's contract is more than friendly enough for a fairy; they will definitely treat them well."
"Perhaps she wants to find a witch who isn't motivated by the contract, but someone who genuinely likes her and is willing to tell her stories!" Moran said.
Aside from that, she couldn't think of any other reason.
"Not motivated by the contract?" Vasida shook her head. "That might be possible outside the academy, but inside the academy... it's hard!"
After all, everyone is currently struggling just to have a decent meal; who would be willing to toil and run errands for a fairy who is destined to be just a passerby when they can't even feed themselves well?
Vasida's thoughts were similar to Moran's. While fairies were skilled at tending to plants, they were not irreplaceable to a witch; otherwise, there would be nothing else of value about them.
Once their tracks were exposed, they lacked even the power to protect themselves; otherwise, their entire clan wouldn't have sought the protection of witches.
Such fairies did not possess the capital that would make a witch go all out to obtain them.
