Chapter 14: Devouring the Stomach Sac
Chapter 14: Devouring Stomach Sac
A breadfruit half a meter long was stuffed into the palm-sized stomach sac, yet it didn't look even a fraction larger.
After swallowing the breadfruit, the stomach sac only gave a slight ripple.
Lilith had been closely monitoring Vasida's magical state and immediately noticed the change in her
"Your mana has recovered a bit!"
Vasida also felt her hunger easing slightly. "I can really let the stomach sac digest it directly! This is amazing!"
By skipping the motions of chewing and swallowing, eating breadfruit was no longer a chore for her at all.
She crouched down, widened the opening of the stomach sac, and in a few quick motions, stuffed all the remaining breadfruit on the ground into it.
In the next instant, she had returned to her peak state; she could even feel a surplus of energy being stored within her body.
"Your mana is overflowing." Lilith couldn't help but cast an envious glance. "The effect of breadfruit replenishing energy is exceptionally significant on you. It must undoubtedly be the effect of your talent manifestation.
With such an ability, as long as you have enough food, you never have to worry about running out of mana!
Vasida, promise me, once witch magic is developed, you must notify me first. I'll sign a contract with you immediately!"
Lilith often suffered from headaches due to insufficient mana, and Vasida's talent was perfect for replenishing it.
Vasida was utterly overwhelmed by the favor.
It was her first time realizing that the ability accompanying her frequent hunger was actually this useful.
Moran and Sylph were also happy for her. "Since breadfruit is so useful, let's pick more to store just in case!"
"Mhm!" Vasida said, looking radiant now that her strength had returned.
This time, Lilith provided light under the tree.
The three "monkeys" climbed up the tree to pick the fruit.
The deeper they went into the forest, the more breadfruit there were on the trees.
Clusters of breadfruit fell to the ground.
Seeing that they had picked a significant amount, Moran, worried about waste, looked down from the tree. "Senior, how many days can breadfruit be kept?"
"It's fine to store them at room temperature for a week," Lilith said. "Usually, picking one cluster at a time is enough to last a week, but that's for an average little witch."
Vasida's appetite, naturally, could not be judged by common standards.
Even she couldn't say for sure how much she needed to eat in a day to maintain her consumption.
"Then let's pick as many as possible and store them in the dormitory for Vasida. If we can't carry them all at once, we can make more trips; we don't live far away anyway," Sylph suggested.
She was actually exhausted, but considering Vasida's unstable condition, she decided to persevere.
"Okay!" Moran said.
Hearing them, Vasida pushed aside the leaves blocking her face and poked her head out from another tree.
"Um, I can put them directly into my stomach sac! The excess energy will be stored, so nothing will go to waste."
"That's even better! Try filling your stomach sac to the limit!" Moran said.
The three little witches picked a large pile of breadfruit—twelve clusters in total, about sixty or seventy fruits.
For an ordinary little witch, this would be more than enough to eat for two months. Estimating it was about enough, they let Vasida start filling it.
She went one after another without a moment's rest. Before long, the breadfruit on the ground had all vanished.
Yet, the stomach sac in her hand still showed no sign of bloating.
"How is it? Can you still fit more?" Lilith asked.
Vasida felt it out and gestured with her hands. "About... I can fit about five more clusters' worth."
"Five?" Lilith was stunned. "It can hold that much?"
Vasida nodded.
They began picking again, only stopping after they had gathered sixty-three clusters.
This time, as they reached the end, Moran and the others finally saw the stomach sac slowly expanding.
After the sixtieth cluster was stuffed in, the stomach sac was stretched so tight that there wasn't a single wrinkle left.
Vasida let out a burp. "I can't fit any more."
"That's equivalent to storing a year's worth of food for an ordinary little witch in one go!" Moran marveled.
Lilith had been watching Vasida's condition closely. "Even with the stomach sac being outside, I don't see your mana depleting. It must be replenishing as it consumes, right?"
"Yeah! I feel like I won't feel hungry for a long while."
Patting her bulging stomach sac, Vasida felt an unprecedented sense of satisfaction. "Thank you all so much for tonight!"
"Don't mention it! Although we witches pursue independence, we are absolutely willing to lend a hand to our companions!" Lilith said with a wave of her hand.
"We couldn't just watch you wander into the breadfruit forest alone at night and faint in the woods!" Sylph added.
"Besides, the three of us aren't without our gains!" Moran pointed to the remaining three clusters of breadfruit. "These are ours. This means we won't need to come picking for the next week."
Feeling the kindness of her friends, Vasida volunteered, "I'll carry them!"
The three clusters of breadfruit weighed dozens of pounds and looked larger than she was, yet Vasida picked them up with ease.
When Moran and Sylph tried to help, she wouldn't allow it. Clutching the breadfruit tightly, she bolted toward the edge of the forest, shouting as she ran, "I'm full, and I'm bursting with energy!"
Lilith, who had intended to suggest using a Levitation spell to lighten the load, silently retracted her wand.
She decided to let her junior, who was acting like a spirited calf, show off a bit!
Moran and Sylph followed helplessly.
A full Vasida was brimming with vitality; she was practically a different witch from the hungry Vasida.
By the time they reached the dormitory area, Moran and the others finally caught up to her.
Before parting ways, Lilith remembered something and reminded Sylph and Vasida, "Remember to give your talent manifestations a domineering name!"
"A name?" Sylph and Vasida were puzzled.
Lilith glanced at Moran.
Moran understood instantly.
"Mine is called the Bloodthirsty Needle!" Lilith held up a syringe and gave a wicked smile, revealing her dangerous fangs.
Moran cooperated by summoning her own talent manifestation. Mimicking Senior Lilith, she came up with a signature pose for herself.
A gilded book hovered before her, moving as if by an invisible wind. "Mine is the Book of Cards!"
Sylph: "..."
Why was this so awkward?
"Wow! So cool!" Vasida's eyes shined as she clapped her hands. "Compared to yours, my 'stomach sac' is way too simple! Hmm... what should I call it? Let me think... stomach sac, its function is to digest food... 'digest' isn't a good word..."
After thinking for a moment, a spark of inspiration hit Vasida. "I've got it! From today on, my talent manifestation shall be called the 'Devouring Stomach Sac'!"
"Devouring Stomach Sac? Not bad, not bad. It sounds very intimidating. Its level of dominance is on par with my Bloodthirsty Needle!" Lilith praised.
"It fits the characteristics of your stomach sac perfectly!" Moran added.
Now, only Sylph was left.
"Sylph, what about you? Do you have any ideas?"
