The Chronicles of Song Tan

Chapter 56: The Delivery Man's Ecstasy

Chapter 56: The Delivery Guy's Ecstasy

After seeing Zhou Maozhu off, Wang Lifen arrived just in time to hurriedly make breakfast. She then fed the pre-chopped Chinese milk vetch to the ducklings that had only arrived home yesterday.

The fluffy, bright yellow ducklings showed no signs of timidity or distress from their new environment; instead, they were energetic and eager. Seeing food, they flapped their wings and wiggled their little butts, racing toward the basin and scrambling over one another in layers.

Their tender "quack-quack" sounds were exceptionally adorable.

Watching this little scene, Wang Lifen’s face broke into a wide, wrinkled smile

"Eat more, eat more! This feed costs twenty yuan a jin! If it weren't for those two fields being used to feed the cattle, you wouldn't even get a turn to eat..."

As she spoke, she scattered the vegetable leaves from the basin into the small, fenced-in area.

She peeked toward the house—why was it so quiet? Why hadn't her son come out to work yet?

The old woman thought that since everyone else had gone up the mountain to pick tea, and she was not only slow but also lagging behind, she couldn't help but feel anxious.

By the time the dumplings were boiled, the vegetable pancakes were fried, and even Song Tan and the others had returned, Song Sancheng still hadn't stepped out of his room. This made Wang Lifen flare up with anger

"What are you doing in there? Everyone is busy as a spinning top this early in the morning, so why are you still huddled in your room?"

Only then did Song Sancheng reluctantly emerge from the room—the tea was too good, but the house didn't have a large enough freezer. He had been shuffling things around, and while he hadn't cleared out the fridge, he couldn't fit the previous contents back in.

The room was currently a complete mess.

Now that he had been shouted out by his mother, and seeing the mud on his wife Wulan's feet and the dew on her trousers, he felt guilty. He held up a cup of deep green, fragrant tea as if presenting a treasure

"Look, this tea, look how fragrant it is! How sweet!"

Wulan had no interest in the tea; she didn't care for it.

However, just as she was about to refuse, that unique, subtle fragrance drifted toward her, causing her words to pivot: "Let me try some."

She then took a large gulp, making Song Sancheng's brow twitch; his painful reluctance could no longer be hidden.

But Wulan noticed nothing unusual; instead, she tasted it with great seriousness

"Not bad, not bad. This tea is fragrant and refreshing. It's a bit bitter at first, but then a sweetness rises from the back of the throat. It's quite good—what kind of price will this fetch?"

She tilted her head back for another large gulp, draining the entire cup.

After all, after going to the fields early in the morning, one naturally wanted to drink more upon returning.

Watching that brute-like way of drinking, Song Sancheng's eyelids kept twitching.

Song Tan, however, checked the time: "No rush—Mom, take Qiaoqiao to eat first. I'll organize the orders first and then head straight to the town later."

The tea wasn't going anywhere; there was no need to rush to taste it.

On the contrary, the sun had been warm these past two days. She had to sell the vegetables quickly before it got too hot; otherwise, once the sun hit them, their appearance would suffer.

She had added many new friends and received many new orders on her phone last night. Combined with the small market team, the little pickup truck would be packed to the brim today.

Fortunately, the hundred jin destined for out-of-town didn't need bundling, which would save a lot of effort. For this, Song Tan generously provided an extra five jin to account for loss.

Calculating it this way, the morning was far too tight!

...

Early in the morning, Fengfeng Express in Qingxi Town was already open and waiting.

The owner, Zhang Hua, was only twenty-five this year. He had used all his savings from working odd jobs to open this Fengfeng Express agency. He originally thought that being the only one in town, things couldn't go too badly.

However, he had forgotten that the villages and towns were aging; there were few young people living in this area. With delivery fees starting at twenty yuan, people were even more reluctant to spend.

After struggling for two years, he was barely breaking even.

With the current poor economic climate, he had even decided that if things didn't improve this year, he would simply go to a factory to work next year.

Tightening screws was more promising than entrepreneurship!

Who would have thought his luck would turn around now!

As Zhang Hua counted his packing boxes, dry ice bags, and bubble wrap for the Nth time, he prayed in his heart: "Dear God! Please let that girl have plenty of orders! I haven't had business like this in two years!"

Just then, a vehicle pulled up at the entrance. Zhang Hua's heart skipped a beat, and he rushed out, only to see that familiar pickup truck!

And the person in the truck bed handing down baskets.

"Sister, is it these two baskets?"

Song Qiao lifted the heavy baskets and carefully handed them down.

Song Tan was looking at her phone; without even looking up, she extended an arm to catch them casually and placed them steadily on the ground.

Zhang Hua watched with trepidation—those baskets of vegetables were not light!

Song Tan confirmed the orders once more

"A total of 52 orders, all addressed to Ning Province. The weights vary per order, totaling 156 jin—here, we've already weighed them; each bunch is one jin and two liang. The two liang is for loss."

Then, she moved her hands to send all the address records: "Boss, you said last time that if I had fifty orders, you'd give me a discount for door-to-door pickup. Now that I don't need you to come to the door, the discount should be a bit higher, right?"

Zhang Hua had already fallen into ecstasy.

First, he nodded enthusiastically: "Definitely a discount, definitely a discount!"

Then he became troubled: "If they were all small items, I could decide to give you a thirty percent discount without a problem. But many of these are overweight; the specific shipping costs will have to be calculated one by one..."

Of course they were; the largest order was ten jin at once.

He would have to calculate whether he needed to split them into several packages...

Song Tan understood: "No rush on the math. Including what's left from last time, I'll transfer another thousand to you. This batch must be sent out today, and there is absolutely no room for loss during packaging. Once I return from the city at noon, we can settle the account carefully. Does that work for you?"

Although she was decisive, she didn't intend to be a sucker. To prevent the delivery guy from getting too cocky, Song Tan added

"Of course, if your discount isn't attractive enough, I go to the city every day anyway. I might as well find someone to ship from the city; it would be more efficient."

Zhang Hua's heart jolted: "Don't worry, our company provides certain subsidies for agricultural products shipped from townships. If you're not in a hurry, after the shipment goes out this afternoon, I'll come directly to your house. Firstly, to calculate everything in detail, and secondly, in case you need me to pick up goods in the future, I can learn the way... How does that sound?"

The young man had a future!

Isn't that exactly the kind of clear-headed person business needs?

Song Tan nodded: "Deal! It's a deal!"

She glanced at the sky outside: "Qiaoqiao, use the straw mats to cover the rest. It's time for us to go to the bus station."

She had arranged to meet the freight driver near the bus station. The other party seemed to be a relative of the customer, so she had been specifically instructed that no packaging was needed—just deliver them directly.

Song Tan sighed inwardly—wholesale really was much easier.

Especially since her wholesale prices weren't cheap.

*Ah, I received a temporary notice last night that the listing will go live on August 10th, one day earlier than originally planned, which is tomorrow... Can you guys handle it?*
