The 80s Farm Wife is a Big Shot

Chapter 1: Grandma Will Stand Up for You

“The people in the village are getting more and more outrageous. Don’t be afraid, Xiaoxue, Grandma is still alive. If they dare to run their mouths again, see if I don’t slap them until their mouths are shredded.”

An elderly woman with a kind face, yet a hint of ruthlessness in her eyes, was feeding chickens under the eaves.

Sitting beside her was a woman with a bandage wrapped around her head. She didn’t look very old, perhaps eighteen or nineteen.

Her eyes were vacant, her face deathly pale. If not for the tears streaming from her eyes, anyone who saw her would have thought she was a corpse.

Seeing her granddaughter-in-law still looking like she was half-dead, the old woman grew angry. “Xiaoxue, Grandma is talking to you.”

She was a strong-willed person by nature. Having raised her grandson alone while his parents were away, she was a formidable woman.

In the countryside, they would call her a shrew.

But she didn’t care. As long as she could survive, she would accept being called a harridan.

If it weren’t for pitying the girl for losing her parents, combined with a past incident, she truly wouldn’t have wanted her grandson to marry such a wife.

But what could be done now? They were already married.

“If they curse you, just curse them back. If you can’t take it, Grandma will back you up.” The old woman was truly at her wit’s end with her.

In the end, the girl named Xue’er still didn’t respond to the old woman. That night, the master of the house didn’t return, and the two women didn’t sleep a wink.

The old woman was worried that her granddaughter-in-law might do something rash, so she kept getting up to check on her. This went on all night.

But the person lying on the bed had already changed her core.

Mei Xue had woken up in the middle of the night. As soon as she woke up, she was stunned.

Where was this place?

Opening her eyes, she saw black walls and a black ceiling. Even worse, there was absolute silence around her.

If not for her reason holding her back, she would have wanted to burn this place down.

She hated silence the most, and she feared the dark the most.

Her head was pounding as if it would explode, but there was nothing she could do; she couldn't change her symptoms right now.

It wasn't until a stream of memories that didn't belong to her invaded her consciousness that Mei Xue realized where she was and who she had become.

“Heh, Heaven hasn't been unkind to me. It seems it wants me to live a life where I can have whatever I want.”

After absorbing all the memories, the heavy stone in Mei Xue’s heart finally settled.

This was an era that one could both love and hate.

“They just cursed you a few times, is it worth dying over?” Mei Xue looked down on those who didn't cherish their lives.

Her life had been hard-won; she wouldn't throw it away easily.

After finally sorting through the original owner’s memories from beginning to end, Mei Xue felt exhausted.

There were no nightmarish beasts here, no demons or ghosts. It was a peaceful era.

And so, Mei Xue slept soundly through the night.

The next day, she woke up to the old woman’s calling.

Upon waking, Mei Xue was on guard, but when she saw the person before her, she flashed a smile.

It nearly scared the old woman to death.

It was as ugly as it could be; truly, it was terrifying.

“What are you smiling at? Smiling first thing in the morning, you scared the life out of me.” The old woman patted her chest, looking genuinely shaken.

Mei Xue was speechless; she was just trying to show goodwill.

Fortunately, the old woman was someone with a sharp tongue but a soft heart. “What are you looking at? Get up and eat! Day after day, you don’t do any work, just sleep.”

With that, the old woman ran out, looking as if a ghost were chasing her.

Mei Xue wasn't angry at these words; in fact, she liked the old woman even more. She was exactly her type.

Looking at the furnishings in the room, they weren't worth much, but they were very tidy, which showed that this family was hardworking.

“If you don’t cherish it, then I won’t be polite,” Mei Xue said to the air with a smile.

She got up, tidied herself, and followed her memories to organize her appearance before stepping outside. Only then did she realize

“So this is my future home. It’s a pretty good place.” Mei Xue took a deep breath and let it out.

“So comfortable.” She looked at the misty village outside and smiled.

At the very least, it was much better than the world she had come from.

“Why are you still standing there? Do you want me to feed you?” The old woman had set the bowls and chopsticks and served the porridge. When she walked out and saw her granddaughter-in-law standing there with a silly grin, she felt a chill run down her spine.

But, oh well. She was young and pitiful, with no one to look after her.

“Coming, Grandma.” Mei Xue gave what she thought was a very kind smile.

The old woman shivered. “It’s June, why is it so cold?”

Mei Xue walked closer, hearing this but saying nothing.

She couldn't help it; her body was heavy with yin energy (having returned from the dead).

Hehe, but it was good. Being alive was good.

“Grandma, let’s eat.” In this day and age, every household was poor. Even eggs were precious to people in the countryside.

“Grandma, you eat too.” While drinking her porridge, Mei Xue took one of the two boiled eggs on the table and placed it in the old woman’s bowl.

She knew that for the past few days, these eggs had been prepared for her.

The original owner had been oblivious, eating them all herself every time, while the old woman drank leftover soup where she couldn't see.

In Mei Xue’s view, the old lady was too kind. If it were her, she wouldn't even give the original owner food; such a person was a waste of rations.

When the old woman heard her call her "Grandma," the smile on her face didn't fade.

Watching her eat and even put food in her bowl, she felt incredibly comforted. “Grandma won’t eat. You eat. Your health is poor, eat more to build your strength.”

See? See? Mei Xue told you this old lady was kind-hearted.

“I’ve built up enough strength. Grandma, let’s eat together.”

Mei Xue was grateful to the original owner for leaving her body to her, and she was grateful that the original owner’s parents had passed away early; she didn't want anyone to discover she wasn't the original owner.

In the five days since she arrived, the original owner had spent them in a daze, genuinely seeking death (though she hadn't starved herself).

“Alright, Grandma will eat too.” Seeing the sincerity in Mei Xue’s eyes, the old woman was overjoyed.

As she ate, she kept encouraging Mei Xue. “Xiaoxue, if they dare to bully you again, you tell Grandma. See if I don’t tear them apart.”

The cause of it all was that as soon as the original owner arrived in the village, the gossiping women began saying she was cursed to bring death to her parents.

Once, the original owner ran into them, but unfortunately, she was weak and didn't talk back.

As a result, those meddlesome women grew bolder and dared to curse her to her face.

And so, she was cursed until she broke, believing she really was a jinx, and sought death.

Truly, foolish.

Taking other people’s words to heart—how stupid could one be? Hehe.

“Mm, Grandma is the best. If they curse me in the future, I’ll curse them back.” Mei Xue didn't want to live under the original owner’s skin forever. She was Mei Xue, and Mei Xue was her. She would live for herself.

In this rare, quiet world, she had to live it up.

“That’s right, that’s my good granddaughter-in-law.” The old woman felt that the girl had finally come around, and she was exactly her type.
