Sword Emperor of the Nine Realms

Chapter 21: Hunting Demonic Beasts

Chu Fengmian chose to come to this Desolate Mountain Range for two reasons. First, he wanted to experience life-and-death combat, using each battle to facilitate his own breakthroughs.

Second, he intended to use this opportunity to temper his swordsmanship and accumulate experience.

Although Chu Fengmian possessed astonishing sword intent and a profound comprehension of swordsmanship, most of it had been mere theoretical knowledge. In his previous life, Chu Fengmian had not even possessed spiritual power, so how could he have ever had combat experience?

Over these ten days, Chu Fengmian's cultivation realm had not changed in the slightest, but in terms of actual combat strength, his progress could be described as rapid.

At the very least, Chu Fengmian was now capable of easily defeating an eighth-level Bone Tempering Realm beast. Even if it were a martial artist, even one at the ninth level of the Bone Tempering Realm would not be a match for him.

Chu Fengmian was confident that he could defeat a ninth-level Bone Tempering Realm martial artist in about three moves.

"The eighth-level Bone Tempering Realm beasts in this vicinity are almost all being slain. It seems I must go deeper."

Chu Fengmian scanned his surroundings, picked up his Black Azure Sword, and continued walking toward the depths of the wilderness.

The closer one got to the heart of the wilderness, the more powerful the beasts became. It was said that there were even beasts in the Body Forging Realm and the Divine Sea Realm within.

If Chu Fengmian encountered them, he would undoubtedly die. However, those powerful beasts resided in the deepest parts of the wilderness and were unlikely to appear on the fringes of the mountain range.

Chu Fengmian walked cautiously through the jungle; every step he took was completely silent.

This was the magic of the Phantom Movement technique. A high-level movement technique was not merely useful when actively activated; it influenced one's every movement in daily life.

Just as Chu Fengmian was weaving through the jungle without making a single sound, he was relying on the miraculous nature of the Phantom Movement.

In this way, it was difficult to alert high-level beasts.

"There are traces of a beast nearby."

Chu Fengmian gradually came to a halt. He had vaguely detected the presence of a beast in the vicinity.

"The smell of blood."

Chu Fengmian sniffed the air.

A scent of blood was wafting from not far away.

"Let's go take a look."

Steadying his heart, Chu Fengmian quietly approached.

Not far ahead, the massive carcass of a five-to-six-meter-long rhinoceros was continuously bleeding. Beside the giant carcass, a dozen or so red figures were gnawing on the meat.

"A Dual-Horned Rhino?"

Seeing the carcass, Chu Fengmian was slightly surprised.

The Dual-Horned Rhino was a ninth-level Bone Tempering Realm beast, possessing terrifying brute strength and acting as an almost invincible existence within its realm. Yet, it had been hunted down.

In the outskirts of this wilderness, there were actually such terrifying beasts capable of doing this?

While Chu Fengmian was surprised, he shifted his gaze toward the dozen or so red figures.

These red figures were not large, no more than two meters long, and were covered in thick, frighteningly bright red fur.

"Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves."

Chu Fengmian whispered to himself.

"No wonder the Dual-Horned Rhino was hunted."

The Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves were only eighth-level Bone Tempering Realm beasts, but they were pack animals, living in groups ranging from a few to over a dozen.

Furthermore, Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves were extremely frenzied when fighting enemies. When ten or more of them attacked together, even a Dual-Horned Rhino could be brought down.

"This pack of Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves is just enough to temper my swordsmanship!"

The Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves were incredibly ferocious in combat. Especially when ten or more attacked simultaneously, their coordination was seamless—even more terrifying than a siege by a dozen martial artists.

This pack was the perfect training ground for Chu Fengmian's swordsmanship.

Chu Fengmian's eyes turned cold, and he suddenly leaped out.

Faced with Chu Fengmian's sudden appearance, the dozen or so Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves stopped eating. They turned one by one, their gazes seemingly sizing up this uninvited guest.

The largest leader among them stared intently at Chu Fengmian, appearing to be calculating his strength.

Clearly, this Bloodthirsty Demon Wolf possessed a degree of intelligence.

Then, with a roar, almost all the wolves lunged toward Chu Fengmian at once.

The moment they pounced, they were incredibly fast, their claws carrying a gust of powerful wind.

"Spiritual power!"

It seemed even beasts like the Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves knew how to channel power to fight; their combat style was no different from that of a martial artist.

In particular, these dozen or so wolves attacked Chu Fengmian from all directions almost simultaneously.

"Come then!"

Chu Fengmian let out a roar. As he moved his feet, his figure became ethereal.

"Phantom!"

The dozen wolves pounced at once, but they only tore through a phantom image. Chu Fengmian's true body had already appeared beside one of the wolves.

The Black Azure Sword in his hand flashed out, slashing violently toward the wolf's waist.

Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves were known for having heads and bones like bronze and iron, but waists like tofu. Chu Fengmian's strike hit the vital spot perfectly. The wolf instantly collapsed to the ground, its body severed in two.

"Roar!"

Seeing their companion die, the other wolves grew enraged and lunged at Chu Fengmian once more.

Chu Fengmian, however, maneuvered among them using the Phantom Movement, utilizing the Infinite Sword Dance to kill them one after another.

Chu Fengmian's figure darted through the pack of wolves without being caught even once; instead, every time his sword fell, a Bloodthirsty Demon Wolf was slain.

"Young Master, there is a strong scent of blood ahead. There must have been a battle."

Not far away, a group of people was walking toward Chu Fengmian's location.

There were ten people in this group. Nine were middle-aged men, each walking with a sense of power, clearly being formidable martial artists.

The remaining person was very young, appearing to be only in his early twenties. His luxurious clothing proved his noble status.

"Oh? A battle? Let's go take a look," the young man said with a yawn upon hearing the words.

"Yes!"

The nine middle-aged men immediately became alert and approached cautiously. From beneath an ancient tree, they could clearly see a single figure weaving through a pack of over ten Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves.

A moment later, the figure slew another wolf.

"Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves? Someone is actually hunting such beasts," one of the middle-aged men said in shock.

Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves were pack animals and were notoriously frenzied. Ordinary martial artists who encountered them in the Desolate Mountain Range would usually go out of their way to avoid them; it was rare for anyone to actively hunt them.

Moreover, they could tell that the strength of the figure was not that of a powerhouse, yet through superb movement and exquisite swordsmanship, the person was actually capable of contending with a pack of Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves.
