It has been free for nearly three months, totaling over 600,000 words. It should have gone paywalled long ago, but I kept delaying it until I could no longer hold it back. Now, I have no choice but to put it behind a paywall.

I understand that everyone hopes to read more for free, but I didn't set the date for the paywall myself; I only found out about it at noon today.

I think I mentioned once last month that it would go paywalled, but I tried to delay it for as long as I could.

Once it goes paywalled, I expect many of you will be unhappy and might even curse me for it.

But if I don't put it behind a paywall, Shao Yu will likely starve to death. Shao Yu relies on writing to make a living. Without a paywall, I am essentially writing for free—it's like working for free for everyone. Relying solely on tips, I probably wouldn't make even a hundred yuan a month; I would truly starve.

When Shao Yu writes a chapter of 2,000 words, it normally takes an hour. Sometimes I get writer's block for two or three hours, sitting in front of the computer in frustration, unable to write a single word.

With things to do during the day, I have to write until the early hours of the morning. I can't get a good night's sleep. Looking at my update times, it seems I've become a night owl, and I'm sorry for making you all stay up late as well.

Shao Yu sits in front of the computer writing all day just to earn a few cents; it's not even worth the price of a bottle of water.

Those of you following the updates should know that I have been updating this book very quickly, and the amount of free content is already quite large. With over 600,000 free words, most books would have gone paywalled at 300,000 words.

In these three months, I have earned almost no money, because it is truly impossible to keep a book free forever.
