Reincarnation Paradise: The Dreamweaver of Connections

Chapter 9: Clearing the Teaching Building

Lin Yi’s gaze swept over the wandering "dead" before him. He knew in his heart that for him and Miyamoto Rei to force their way through this infected zone would be like throwing an egg against a rock, not to mention that they still had to search for Takagi Saya amidst the chaos.

He pondered for a moment, then suddenly bent down to pick up a stone from the ground and hurled it fiercely at the group of dead in the distance.

The stone cut through the air and struck one of the dead accurately. Unexpectedly, the struck dead showed no immediate reaction, as if the blow hadn't touched its pain receptors at all.

It wasn't until the stone hit the ground and made a sound that the surrounding dead slowly and mechanically turned their heads toward the source of the noise.

"No sense of touch, only hearing? It seems the virus only retained partial functions of their brains," Lin Yi muttered to himself.

Through this test, he had gained a deeper understanding of the characteristics of these infected.

After being infected by the virus, although the dead's sense of touch and vision had completely failed, their sense of smell and hearing were exceptionally keen.

Lin Yi waved his hand in front of an infected body again, but the target remained unresponsive, as if there were an invisible wall between them.

However, when he made a slight sound, those dead immediately turned toward the source, showing extreme sensitivity to noise.

After setting his plan, Lin Yi turned his gaze to Miyamoto Rei. "Place your phone in a conspicuous spot and set an alarm for five minutes from now."

Miyamoto Rei did not hesitate and immediately followed Lin Yi's instructions.

She placed the phone in a prominent location easily noticed by the infected and set the alarm for five minutes later.

Five minutes passed in a flash. The phone rang suddenly, its sharp sound echoing through the empty school building and shattering the surrounding silence.

This sudden noise was like a command, instantly igniting the frenzy of the nearly one hundred infected nearby.

Like beasts startled from their slumber, the infected turned their heads toward the source of the sound.

With hideous expressions, they hissed and lunged toward the phone, as if to tear the thing making that piercing noise into pieces.

At the same time, Lin Yi and Miyamoto Rei quickly seized the opportunity to bypass the infected's encirclement from another direction.

Their movements were swift and agile, like two ghostly figures weaving flexibly through the chaos, taking care to avoid making any sound that might attract the attention of the infected.

Having successfully bypassed the crazed infected, the two did not stop for a moment and quickly headed toward the interior of the school building.

In the dim and empty lobby on the first floor, several infected wandered aimlessly, as if immersed in their own worlds, deaf to the clamor outside.

These infected let out low growls from time to time, wandering unconsciously as if searching for some kind of release.

With a low shout from Lin Yi, the two shot forward like arrows released from a bow, charging fiercely at the infected.

Their movements were swift and decisive, like two flashes of lightning cutting through the dark night sky.

Sword blades and spears drew cold arcs through the air; every strike was sharp and precise, hitting the vital points of the infected.

After just a few rounds, these infected fell one after another under the attacks of Lin Yi and Miyamoto Rei.

Confirming that the first floor was completely safe, Lin Yi quickly found a sturdy steel pipe and skillfully wedged it into the handle of the main entrance door.

This way, even if someone tried to open the door from the outside, they would find it difficult to enter due to the clever obstruction of the pipe.

This simple defensive measure provided an extra layer of security for their subsequent actions.

"Alright, the work ahead won't be easy." Lin Yi wiped the blood splattered on his face. The next task was to clear the dead from the entire school building, which was no simple feat.

The two quickly arrived at the second floor. The hallway was empty, but over a dozen infected were wandering about.

Several of them were blindly attacking cabinets placed outside the classrooms, as if those inanimate objects were their prey.

Lin Yi gestured to Miyamoto Rei, and the two approached two straggling infected as silently as ghosts.

Without the infected noticing, they acted swiftly and decisively, quickly taking them down.

To prevent the sound of the bodies hitting the floor from alerting nearby infected, Lin Yi carefully used his hand to support the back of the infected, slowly laying it flat on the ground.

Every one of their movements was carefully calculated and coordinated to ensure the entire process was both swift and effective, while minimizing unnecessary noise and disturbance.

While clearing the second-floor hallway, Lin Yi happened to notice a white treasure chest lying quietly beside the corpse of an infected.

Lin Yi noticed that Miyamoto Rei had not seen the chest, which made him realize that this might be a special benefit provided to contractors like him by Reincarnation Paradise; plot characters in the derivative world, such as Miyamoto Rei, could not discover such things.

He quickly glanced at Miyamoto Rei and saw that she was focused on the infected ahead, not noticing his actions.

Taking advantage of the brief moment when Miyamoto Rei's gaze shifted, Lin Yi quickly and lightly leaned down, tucking the white treasure chest into his personal space without a sound.

Lin Yi and Miyamoto Rei continued their clearing operation, eliminating the infected classroom by classroom.

When they arrived at one classroom, they suddenly heard a faint sound coming from a cabinet.

Several survivors cautiously poked their heads out; they had hidden in the cabinets when the disaster struck and luckily escaped.

These survivors were terrified, their bodies trembling.

They clutched the corners of Lin Yi and Miyamoto Rei's clothes as if grabbing a life-saving straw.

The appearance of Lin Yi and Miyamoto Rei gave them hope for survival.

"Have you seen Takagi Saya?" Miyamoto Rei asked the survivors while wiping her spear tip.

One of the girls replied with a sobbing voice, "Takagi-san seems to have gone to the roof with Komuro Takashi-kun. We don't know what happened after that."

After hearing this, Miyamoto Rei turned to Lin Yi and said, "We need to find Takagi Saya first. Let them hide here for now. We'll come back for them after we finish our business."

Lin Yi nodded in agreement.

They offered a few words of comfort to the survivors, then hurried out of the classroom and continued toward the upper floors.

After clearing the third floor, Lin Yi and Miyamoto Rei continued toward the fourth floor without pause.

However, just as they stepped onto the fourth-floor stairwell, a girl's scream suddenly broke the silence.

"Oh no! That's Takagi Saya's voice," Miyamoto Rei said nervously.

Lin Yi immediately became alert and vaulted onto the fourth-floor hallway in one motion.

In the hallway, Komuro Takashi was wielding a baseball bat, fighting side-by-side with a man against the surrounding infected.

And their protected target, Takagi Saya, was hiding behind them, her hands covering her head, muttering something incessantly, looking exceptionally panicked.

"Igou, step back a bit," Komuro Takashi said to the man beside him while swinging his baseball bat to crush the skull of an infected.

Igou Hisashi followed his advice and began to retreat.

Komuro Takashi's stamina was heavily depleted; the human skull was exceptionally hard, and he had to use all his strength to crush it.

During the battle, an accident suddenly occurred.

Just as Komuro Takashi finished off one infected, another suddenly emerged from the shadows and lunged at him fiercely.

"Watch out!" Igou Hisashi exclaimed and rushed forward without hesitation.

In this critical moment, Igou Hisashi had no time to think and landed a heavy punch squarely on the infected's face.

However, at that very instant, the infected took the opportunity to bite Igou Hisashi hard on the hand.

The air seemed to freeze at that moment. Everyone stared in shock at the tooth marks on Igou Hisashi's right hand, a sense of foreboding rising in their hearts.

They all knew what this bite meant.

Igou Hisashi was very likely to be infected, eventually turning into the same kind of monster as those wandering outside.
