Reborn and triumphant, one should live to the fullest.
Chapter 4: What is a coin base?
Shao Yiying took a deep breath, reached out her hand, and was about to grab the money inside.
"Stop."
Li Shuo interrupted, "Beauty, you need to remember that I just called the police. If the police arrive and see that something is missing from here..."
Shao Yiying stopped as expected. She glanced at Li Shuo, thought for a moment, and said, "Are you afraid that if I take the stolen money, it will implicate you, the witness?"
Li Shuo curled his lip. The answer was obvious, wasn't it? He was a reborn soul with thousands of ways to make money; he had only come here for the reward. He couldn't be bothered to touch any money that was even slightly dirty.
"Tch, you're so young, yet you think as meticulously as an old man."
Shao Yiying pouted and muttered a complaint. She didn't actually intend to take the stolen money, so she withdrew her hand and turned to walk toward the inner bedroom. As she walked, she said, "Fine. Help me look for a diary or something similar. If you find it, I'll give you a reward of 100,000 yuan!"
"Deal!"
Li Shuo feigned excitement, though he was actually curious about the secrets hidden here. From what he could see now, the information he knew from his past life might not be the whole truth.
For instance, how did Shao Yiying manage to be waiting outside in advance? Her behavior made it seem as if she knew the thief would run out.
Thinking deeper: If Shao Yiying had also been lying in wait in his past life, and Kang Tao hadn't been pulled out by him, he certainly would have called the police very late. In that case, with no one supervising, what had Shao Yiying done inside the house? The amount of stolen money disclosed in his past life seemed to be 2 million; the money in that wall just now was about enough.
Furthermore, how did his cousin, a mere beat cop, manage to catch up to Shao Yiying back then?
"I found a safe. Come over and take a look. Can you open it?"
Shao Yiying's voice came from inside. Li Shuo rolled his eyes. As he walked toward the bedroom where she was, he said, "Please, I'm just a high school student. How could I possibly open this..."
Halfway through his sentence, he froze. The reddish-brown safe that appeared before his eyes—he had seen it before!
It was that time his grandmother was pressuring him to adopt a child. She had opened this safe in front of Li Shuo, saying that if he were willing to adopt, his cousin-in-law would give him the 10 gold bars inside as a reward.
Then, his grandmother had rambled on about many things, saying this was a "big iron cabinet" that "Yiying" had sent back for her to keep important items in. But the thing seemed broken; the password couldn't be changed, and the original password was too long for his grandmother to remember. She had asked Li Shuo to help her memorize the password, saying that if she were ever gone, Li Shuo could use it to open this "big tin box."
Li Shuo had looked it up later; it was an imported safe. Its main feature was having two password systems. You had to know the initial password to set a common password; otherwise, the common password could never be changed.
This meant that if the safe before him was the one his cousin-in-law had sent home in his past life, then Li Shuo possessed the "common password."
"Forget it, it's useless even if you look at it. It's a safe, after all. I'll find someone to smash it open later!" Shao Yiying looked frustrated. She had spent a great deal of effort trying to retrieve her late father's notebook, only to be blocked at the final step.
Li Shuo raised an eyebrow and said with "surprise," "Isn't this a Siemens H-series safe imported from abroad..."
"What?"
Shao Yiying looked bewildered. Then, she watched as Li Shuo strode forward, placed his hand on the dial, and turned it "click, click," about five or six times. With a "clack"...
"It... it opened..."
Shao Yiying was stuttering.
Li Shuo looked inside the safe: a black-covered notebook, some cash, gold, a Rolex gold watch, and a slip of paper left casually at the very bottom.
The slip of paper was wedged in a gap; if you didn't look closely, you'd think it was scrap paper. Li Shuo picked it up first
Coinbase: *****
What the hell is this? Coin base?
Shao Yiying ignored Li Shuo's actions, grabbed the notebook, flipped it open, and let out a long sigh of relief, weeping with joy. "Finally, I've found you. I can finally give my father an account!"
Li Shuo stood up and exited the bedroom. His cousin-in-law's father had been a tycoon in the county. In his youth, he had married a daughter of the Chen family from the capital, and his future had looked bright. Yet, because he was framed, he had passed away prematurely in his 40s.
For a daughter, Shao Yiying's emotional state was understandable.
Just as he walked out the door, he heard a "bang, bang, bang" of knocking. At the same time, someone shouted, "Is anyone inside? Open up, we're the police..."
The voice was quite familiar—it was his cousin, Li Haoran.
Li Shuo didn't rush to open the door. Instead, he coughed and shouted loudly, "Coming, coming! Goodness, why was the door locked..."
His feet didn't move, however; he looked toward the bedroom.
Soon, Shao Yiying heard his voice and walked out. Seeing Li Shuo's expression, she couldn't help but nod at him.
Only then did Li Shuo go to open the door...
"Stop! Don't move!"
In an instant, a group of police officers swarmed in. His cousin looked at him in surprise: "Li Shuo? Why is it you, kid!"
Li Shuo obediently raised his hands and called out, "Officer, I'm the one who called the police. The thief has already run away, so I came in to see if anything was missing..."
In one sentence, he clearly and concisely explained the situation. The officer holding Li Shuo let go.
At this moment, Shao Yiying walked over. "Director Chen, I was investigating my father's case and discovered someone had snuck into that guy's residence, stolen things, and fled. I found the door open, so I came in to check. This is a notebook left by my father; it contains precious memories he left for me. I hope I can take it back."
Among the police, the leader was a man in his 40s with a square face. Shao Yiying was speaking to him.
Director Chen nodded. "Thank you for your hard work, Miss Shao. That person has been caught, and the case is solved. I believe Boss Shao's spirit in heaven can finally rest in peace."
Once Director Chen spoke, the police on the scene stopped questioning the notebook in Shao Yiying's hands. Everyone began to busy themselves with organizing the stolen goods and money.
Li Shuo curled his lip inwardly. He knew Director Chen was Shao Yiying's uncle; he had actually been specially transferred from the capital to investigate this case.
However, he naturally wouldn't say any of this out loud.
Afterward, he was pulled aside by his cousin, Li Haoran, for a lecture
"Xiao Shuo, why did you run here?"
"I was attending a classmate's birthday party..."
"Just stick to your party, don't go running around everywhere..."
Li Haoran was 10 years older than Li Shuo, almost a generation apart, so he naturally had the right to lecture him.
Li Shuo listened obediently while being scolded. He was a highly rational person. Since he had already participated in the "corrupt official case," he had likely already interrupted his cousin's path to wealth, so there was no need to drive him to his ruin!
After all, his cousin was still just a small-time cop who didn't even know what he had missed. As things stood, they were relatives who would see each other during holidays.
"Cousin, stop lecturing me. I heard this case is very important. Shouldn't you hurry up and search this place thoroughly? You might find something hidden here."
"Right! Look at me, I forgot the important business as soon as I saw you."
Li Haoran slapped his forehead, then walked over to Director Chen and reported, "Director Chen, shouldn't I ask that lady for that diary? At the very least, we could make a copy of the contents..."
Director Chen glared at him and snapped, "Get back to work! Why are you bothering the victim's family? That is a keepsake left for Miss Shao by the victim. Do you have any conscience or bottom line at all!"
Li Shuo swore he really hadn't done it on purpose.
