My luck started turning around after my divorce.

Chapter 40: Moving to a New Home

Once in the car, Chen Feng took Sun Xiaorui to look for a house.

After getting to know each other, they realized that their current living conditions were quite mediocre. Therefore, it was necessary for them to find a new place to live. At Sun Xiaorui's suggestion, they decided to look for a house nearby.

This was a bustling commercial district, so the rent was relatively expensive. However, to the current Chen Feng, it was naturally nothing to worry about. Since Sun Xiaorui was more familiar with the area, Chen Feng let her take the lead in the search.

To find a reliable house, one either needed to have acquaintances or go through an agent. Ultimately, the two decided to use an agent; after all, Chen Feng wasn't short on agency fees, and it offered more options.

After viewing three properties, they finally chose a small two-story villa that was closest to the East Lake embankment. It was two hundred and eighty square meters with small front and back yards. The monthly rent was 30,000 yuan, with a deposit of one month and two months' rent in advance—a fairly good deal.

The reason it seemed relatively cheap was that not many people rented this type of small villa. Those with enough money to rent a villa like this generally had enough to buy a house, and those without money couldn't afford it. It was only people like Chen Feng—who had money but didn't want to buy a house for the time being—who would rent such a place.

The interior decoration was quite nice, a blend of classical and modern styles with a Chinese leaning and a very reasonable layout; it had been specially designed and renovated by a designer three years ago. According to the landlord, it was originally intended for his parents' retirement, but they found it uncomfortable after living there for a while and moved back to their hometown, so it was put up for rent.

The current market value of this house was about twenty million yuan, which Chen Feng truly could not afford. One could only say the landlord was incredibly wealthy to provide such a villa for his parents' retirement. Consequently, after renting this villa, Chen Feng no longer felt like a wealthy man. His entire savings could not buy this small villa.

Because of this, Chen Feng suddenly had the urge to make more money. Previously, he felt that with his more than ten million yuan, he would have more than enough to last until he died. But now, he suddenly felt that if he really started spending freely, that ten million wouldn't be enough. Just look—he couldn't even afford a small villa.

However, there was no immediate rush. The priority was decorating this "new home" for the two of them with Sun Xiaorui.

They first went to their previous rental to move their belongings. By the time they finished the busy work, it was already dark. Instead of cooking immediately at home, they found a nearby restaurant to eat. After dinner, Chen Feng was pulled by Sun Xiaorui to go shopping at the mall.

Fortunately, they didn't need to buy any large items for the villa. The bed was made of rosewood, the mattress was high-end, the refrigerator was an imported foreign double-door model, the washing machine was a fully automatic drum type, and the color TV was a branded 80-inch model. These items had been purchased only two or three years ago and were all in good condition. Therefore, they only bought some bedding and daily necessities.

The trip cost a few thousand yuan, but both were quite happy. Sun Xiaorui, in particular, had a constant smile on her face. When they returned to the villa, they spent another bout of time decorating. It wasn't until nearly eleven o'clock that they had roughly finished setting up their rented new home.

The two lay back on the living room sofa, feeling somewhat tired but equally excited.

"Let's take a shower together," Chen Feng naturally invited after they had rested for a while.

Sun Xiaorui's face flushed, but she nodded with a smile and then ran upstairs toward the bathroom. Chen Feng smiled and stood up to follow her.

The two slept incredibly well, only waking up one after another after ten the next morning. Sun Xiaorui woke up first. She put on her pajamas, went to the window, and pulled back the curtains. The midday sunlight streamed in perfectly; this master bedroom was south-facing and had a balcony.

Opening a window, she could see the flowers and potted plants in their own front yard. Through the wall, she could see the East Lake embankment in the distance; because it was the weekend, the crowds were thick. She could also see a corner of the East Lake, with its emerald waves shimmering in the golden light.

Taking a deep breath, she felt full of vitality and joy. Sun Xiaorui suddenly felt that this moment was extremely happy. Although this happiness might seem somewhat hollow upon deeper reflection, she was truly happy at this moment, and that was enough.

When Chen Feng woke up, he reached out beside him only to find it empty, and his idea for morning exercise also fell through. He got up to go to the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth. When he went downstairs, he smelled the aroma of fried eggs and scallions.

"You're up. Let's eat," Sun Xiaorui, wearing an apron, came out of the kitchen and greeted Chen Feng with a smile.

Chen Feng responded with a smile and naturally sat down at the dining table. This late breakfast was simple: two eggs sprinkled with scallions and a glass of hot milk.

Sun Xiaorui quickly sat down beside him and said, "It's almost noon, so let's eat something simple first. Then I'll go grocery shopping and cook a few good dishes to celebrate our move. Is there anything you love to eat?"

"Sweet and sour pork ribs, fish head and tofu soup, and lotus root—you can cook the lotus root however you like, as long as it's not too spicy. You can decide on the rest."

Chen Feng didn't know her exact cooking skills, but judging by the level of the fried eggs, it should be decent.

"Okay, I've noted it down. I'll go buy the ingredients in a bit," Sun Xiaorui replied naturally.

The two of them were just like a married couple living a domestic life. They quickly finished the simple breakfast, and of course, Sun Xiaorui cleaned up the dishes. Then, she specially brewed a cup of tea for Chen Feng and told him to watch TV in the living room first.

Chen Feng was not polite; he took the tea, sat on the sofa, crossed his legs, and turned on the TV. After tidying up, Sun Xiaorui went out. She had a small pink electric scooter that she had brought during the move; the market was less than a kilometer away, and riding a scooter was more convenient than driving a car.

After watching TV for a while and sipping tea, Chen Feng leaned back on the sofa. Looking around the living room of the villa, a sudden sense of satisfaction and reluctance to leave welled up in him. Such a comfortable and leisurely life was something he could only have dreamed of before, yet now it seemed to have been achieved quite easily.

It was just that he had a terminal illness and could die at any time.

Happy yet depressed!

That was Chen Feng's current mood.

Picking up his phone and opening WeChat, he found Sun Xiaorui. Chen Feng first transferred 50,000 yuan to her, then sent her a 10,000 yuan red envelope. The former was her salary, and the latter was for household expenses. Chen Feng sent a voice message, and shortly after, he received a smiling face and a kissing emoji from Sun Xiaorui.

Spending money like this felt good, but his original thirteen million yuan had dwindled to almost nothing. It seemed he had to make more money!

Taking advantage of his current streak of good luck, Chen Feng had no intention of attempting high-IQ schemes, let alone risking crime; he had neither the time nor the energy, and there was no need. He would just stick to the simple and direct method: buying lottery tickets.

He planned to go buy them this afternoon. Today was Saturday, and the "Super Lotto" draw was tonight, which had one of the highest single-ticket jackpots in the country. It would remain to be seen if his good luck could guarantee another win.

Last time, the lottery ticket that won him a car flew directly into his hands; this time, since he was going to buy it himself, he should be able to win as well. Chen Feng couldn't help but look forward to his good luck during this period.

*Don't let me down!*
