My luck started turning around after my divorce.
Chapter 38: Bad Luck
Chen Feng was currently brimming with resentment, and it wasn't a case of acting aggrieved to gain sympathy.
He was truly resentful.
He had originally come to the hotel to book a room in high spirits, sipping 888-yuan red wine and waiting with great anticipation for the 18,000-yuan premium companion he had selected.
Instead, upon waking up, that 18,000-yuan "respectable lady" had turned into that self-righteous, haughty woman, Zhang Jingwen, who now viewed him as a pervert and a sexual predator.
He was more wronged than any historical figure!
Most importantly, she wasn't even his type. How could he not be filled with resentment?
The physical harm and loss were secondary; the primary issue was psychological.
He had been a law-abiding citizen for nearly thirty years, yet now he felt his lifelong reputation was in jeopardy.
He had entered this world pure and innocent, and he wanted to leave it the same way.
He didn't want to leave behind a stain, but this stain was hard to wash off. Therefore, he felt deeply wronged and aggrieved.
Before leaving the hotel, Chen Feng still conscientiously settled the bill.
After leaving the hotel to get to his car, his first instinct was to find a nearby restaurant to eat.
The physical exhaustion from the previous night had been significant. Chen Feng devoured three large bowls of rice in one go, finishing all seven or eight dishes he had ordered.
Only after finishing the last bottle of Red Bull did he let out a comfortable burp.
However, as his mind involuntarily drifted back to the blurred memories of last night and the image of Zhang Jingwen from this morning, his good mood plummeted.
This damn luck in romance!
Picking his teeth, he stepped out of the restaurant, only to have two men with unfriendly expressions walk straight toward him after just a few steps.
Chen Feng's heart skipped a beat, but he maintained a calm exterior and immediately turned around to walk back.
Ever since he left the hotel, he had been on guard, sensing that Zhang Jingwen might have sent someone to retaliate or to snatch his phone immediately.
It seemed his suspicions were correct.
Chen Feng was speechless; he hadn't realized Zhang Jingwen was such a decisive and ruthless woman.
With no other choice, Chen Feng could only return to the restaurant and order more food.
The restaurant operated as a fast-food establishment with a buffet-style selection and was doing very well. It happened to be near mealtime, so the place was already about seventy to eighty percent full, with dozens of people inside.
Even if those two men wanted to move against him, they wouldn't choose to do so in a place like this.
Chen Feng ordered a few more side dishes and two bottles of Budweiser, then sat down to eat and drink.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the two men enter. They picked out food and ate, but their gazes drifted toward him from time to time; they were clearly there for him.
After getting their food, the two men chose a table not far from Chen Feng and sat down.
Chen Feng stopped looking at them and focused on his own meal and drink. Although his stomach was somewhat full, he had no problem continuing to drink and eat side dishes without the rice.
However, after only half a bottle of Budweiser, Chen Feng stood up and headed toward the restroom.
Chen Feng noticed that the two men had been watching him constantly, but seeing him walk deeper into the shop, they didn't follow immediately.
When Chen Feng was halfway there, he suddenly made a sharp turn to the right and followed another aisle toward the entrance.
Under normal circumstances, people don't just walk out in the middle of a meal unless something very important has come up.
These two men were no exception. Seeing Chen Feng heading for the door, they hurriedly stood up from their seats, leaving their food untouched, and chased after him.
Chen Feng, of course, noticed. He immediately began to run.
He managed to reach his car parked by the roadside just before they could grab him. He pulled open the door, started the engine, and sped away.
Looking through the rearview mirror, he saw the two men standing by the roadside, looking at him with expressions of frustration.
Go to hell!
Chen Feng cursed them inwardly, feeling extremely irritated.
That woman, Zhang Jingwen, was simply... too brutal. It hadn't even been that long, and she had already sent two people after him.
It was a pity he hadn't kept her number; otherwise, he would have had a serious word with her.
Back in his rental apartment, he took a shower first, only to discover that his body was covered in numerous scratch marks that had broken the skin.
Chen Feng couldn't help but curse his bad luck.
It took him over half an hour to emerge, having changed into a fresh set of clothes.
Picking up his phone, he saw several WeChat messages.
There were messages from Wang Fang, Fang Xiaoyue, and Qin Xiaorou. The first two were asking if he had returned to Xiuzhou; Chen Feng replied with a "Yes" and ignored them.
As for Qin Xiaorou, she sent him messages almost every day, but Chen Feng never replied.
Yet, she was incredibly persistent and continued to message him daily. At first, her words were somewhat harsh, but later she simply used him as an emotional trash can, venting about her life at school and her family—mostly negative things.
Chen Feng still had no intention of replying to her.
There was no need to get too deeply involved with such a wild girl.
Aside from those three, there was a friend request from a stranger, sourced via phone number.
Chen Feng didn't accept it immediately. Instead, he replied with a message: "Who are you?"
After a moment, the other party replied: "A colleague."
Chen Feng wasn't so easily fooled and pressed: "Who?"
After another pause, the reply came: "Li Shumin, Yan Jun's wife."
Chen Feng truly hadn't expected it to be Yan Jun's wife, Li Shumin. He had met her a few times; back when Yan Jun was still his apprentice, she was already Yan Jun's girlfriend, and they had eaten together several times.
After thinking it over, Chen Feng accepted the request, but he blocked her from seeing his Moments.
[What do you want? If you're looking to yell at me, go ahead. My conscience is clear.]
Chen Feng sent this first.
[I have already negotiated a divorce with Yan Jun, but I suspect he is hiding assets, so I want to talk to you to understand the situation.]
Chen Feng was shocked when he read this.
Were women these days all this materialistic? As soon as the husband ran into trouble, she immediately sought a divorce and even thought about squeezing as much money as possible out of him.
While Chen Feng certainly didn't have a good impression of Yan Jun, he couldn't help but feel a sense of sympathy for him at this moment.
[I don't know. Don't come looking for me again.]
Chen Feng's dislike for this Li Shumin grew even deeper. In his memory, she gave off an impression of being gentle and virtuous, but reality was clearly different.
[Aren't you Yan Jun's enemy? You should know him best. If you find out anything, please tell me. I can help you get revenge.]
What a disgusting woman!
Chen Feng didn't want to waste another minute on her and immediately blocked her.
This woman had successfully disgusted him. Although Shen Lin wasn't exactly a "partner in hardship" in his eyes, at least she hadn't kicked him while he was down or tried to squeeze money out of him—though, of course, he hadn't had any money back then.
From that perspective, Shen Lin was far better than this Li Shumin.
Chen Feng quickly pushed the woman out of his mind. Staying at home was boring. Since he was nearing the end of his life, he certainly couldn't waste his remaining time alone in a rental apartment.
After tidying up, Chen Feng drove out again. This time, he planned to go to the mall to buy some food, clothing, and daily necessities, and he intended to buy the expensive ones.
