Chapter 45: Custom Made

After turning through several alleys, Chen Fei arrived at a carpenter's shop and commissioned a custom wooden cabinet nearly one cubic meter in size. The cabinet was divided into many compartments, each equipped with drawers or small doors.

"It's not difficult, but if you want it by tomorrow, the finish will be a bit rough," the carpenter said with a smile.

"Rough is fine, as long as you meet the other requirements."

"Alright, then there's no problem," the carpenter nodded.

Chen Fei left a deposit and turned to leave.

Whether the idea for this wooden cabinet could actually be realized could only be determined after tomorrow's experiment.

Chen Fei did not wish to linger outside and intended to head straight back. His archery proficiency had not yet reached its peak, and there were still many pills to refine; his schedule was packed tight.

However, after walking through just a few more alleys, Chen Fei's brow furrowed slightly.

Without pausing his footsteps, Chen Fei continued walking forward.

After Chen Fei disappeared at the end of the alley, a figure glanced left and right before slowly following in his footsteps. But after turning the corner, Chen Fei's figure was nowhere to be seen in the alley.

The person froze in confusion. Just as they were about to give chase, they suddenly discovered a dark shadow appearing behind them.

"What are you following me for!"

As Chen Fei's voice rang out, the person's body stiffened involuntarily. They slowly turned around to face him.

"Who's following you? I just happened to be passing through here as well."

Chen Fei did not engage with the lie. He looked at the person before him, specifically observing their physique for a moment. His eyebrows rose slightly as he spoke, "Shan Xiang, why is it you!"

"How did you recognize me!"

Shan Xiang blurted out, immediately covering her mouth with an expression of annoyance.

"What do you want from me?"

Chen Fei looked at Shan Xiang. Although she had been disguised, her physique remained unchanged, and the person performing the disguise had used mediocre techniques, allowing Chen Fei to spot the flaw instantly.

Shan Xiang was frustrated by her own performance. Facing Chen Fei's question, her tone turned somewhat displeased: "Do you still acknowledge the cultivation the Zhang family provided you?"

"Cultivation?"

Chen Fei was stunned. Cultivation? Before the Zhang family's downfall, the relationship between the two parties should have been described as mere cooperation, and they had even been shortchanged on a recipe for a Light Spirit Pill.

The subsequent manual rewards he received were all exchanged for merit.

Of course, if one were to be pedantic, there were indeed some instances. For example, the daily supply of herbs for Cauldrons Returning Pills used to let Chen Fei test his pill-refining skills.

"Did Zhang Sinan send you?" Chen Fei asked in a low voice.

Regarding the ins and outs of the Zhang family's destruction, Chen Fei had recently learned some details. Although most of the Zhang family's direct lineage had died, it was unclear if the family had received word and allowed some people to leave in advance; Zhang Sinan was one of them.

Even now, the Zhao family still wanted to kill the remaining members of the Zhang direct line. However, it seemed those people had already left Pingyin County, and the Zhao family had not found an opportunity.

"The eldest young lady left the county long ago. What are you thinking!" Shan Xiang said, her gaze flickering evasively.

"Then why did you come looking for me specifically?"

Chen Fei sighed softly. Given Shan Xiang's behavior, even without evidence, it was clear something was wrong. Of course, this was primarily because Chen Fei had seen through her disguise first.

However, if everyone gathered around Zhang Sinan was like this, the chances of this group succeeding were quite low.

But whether this group succeeded or not had little to do with Chen Fei, as he had no intention of getting involved. There were very few things in Zhang Sinan's hands that Chen Fei would find useful.

The sole internal strength manual was likely something she wouldn't give to him anyway.

"We need some detoxification pills and healing pills," Shan Xiang looked up at Chen Fei and said, "You know how to refine both of these."

"The tasks the Zhao family gives me every day are very heavy now; I don't have much free time."

Chen Fei thought for a moment and said, "I can only provide a small amount of these two types of pills."

"That's fine. Any amount is a gesture of goodwill," a smile appeared on Shan Xiang's face.

"What about the herbs? How will you give them to me?"

"We don't have the herbs. Can you find a way to gather them?"

Chen Fei's eyes widened slightly. Good grief, this group actually wanted to pull a "white wolf from empty hands" (get something for nothing). He was already planning to help with the refining, yet they wouldn't even provide the raw materials.

Since the pharmacies weren't selling herbs right now, were they expecting Chen Fei to demand them from the Zhao family?

Chen Fei wondered if he was being too soft-hearted, while Zhang Sinan and her lot were treating him like a fool.

"I'm sorry, it seems I won't be able to help with this favor."

Chen Fei cupped his hands and turned to leave. He decided not to have any entanglement with these people, because their attitude remained as high and mighty as ever.

"You... ungrateful wretch!"

Watching Chen Fei leave, Shan Xiang shouted in an angry rage.

Chen Fei's footsteps did not falter; he merely let out a hollow laugh. As expected, some people are truly impossible to reason with because they live eternally in their own worlds.

Returning to his courtyard, he went about his usual routine of refining pills, cultivating, and grinding proficiency. As night fell, Chen Fei did not go to the black market; instead, he kept the pills, mainly out of concern about running into Ling Hanjun again.

Ling Hanjun gave Chen Fei an extremely cold and sinister impression. It was hard to say what kind of things a person like that might do. Although the man didn't suspect him yet, Chen Fei felt it was safer to be cautious.

In any case, storing the pills for a few days before selling them wouldn't make a difference.

Early the next morning, Chen Fei collected his custom wooden cabinet from the carpenter's shop.

He had paid extra to have the carpenter deliver it to his door.

Once the man left, Chen Fei opened several drawers of the cabinet and stuffed them with some medicine bottles and herbs. He then pushed the drawers back in, leaving no gaps.

Looking at the cabinet with some tension, he focused his mind. In the next instant, the entire cabinet vanished and appeared within his spatial storage.

"It works!"

With the first step completed, a smile involuntarily appeared on Chen Fei's face. However, the experiment was not over; the next set of attempts would be the key.

Inside the spatial storage, Chen Fei used his mind to pull one of the cabinet's drawers outward. As soon as a gap appeared, the herbs stored inside the drawer vanished and appeared in Chen Fei's hand.

"Excellent!"

This time, Chen Fei was truly happy; the intended function had been fully realized.

By creating a gap through the drawer, he allowed the spatial storage to judge that there were additional items inside, and then he chose to move one of those items out of the spatial storage.

It sounded complicated, but in reality, it was just a matter of a single thought.

He could not move the herbs back into the spatial storage unless he summoned the entire cabinet to place them inside.

He was still a bit far from having a true space where he could store things at will. But Chen Fei was satisfied; at the very least, under his design, the spatial storage could now hold many things.

Chen Fei summoned the wooden cabinet and placed all the items that were inconvenient to be seen in the light into the drawers. He had a detailed arrangement for what should be stored in each drawer according to a specific order.

He even created a relatively large space within the cabinet specifically for storing bows and arrows.

"I'll never have to worry about having too many pills and nowhere to put them again."

Half an hour later, someone from the Zhao family arrived.

"Elder Zeng is seriously injured, so he likely won't be able to refine Light Spirit Pills for a while. Consequently, the pill-refining tasks assigned to you will be heavier. If you have any requirements, you can state them, and I can report back," Zhao Xia said solemnly, looking at Chen Fei.
