May you spend your remaining years in Chang'an.
Chapter 7: A Curse Seeking Death
Lin Jinyan picked up a corner of her sleeve that was not yet stained with blood and gently wiped the blood from Lin Siyuan’s face and neck. She tidied his hair and clothes, then whispered softly
“Father, our family can be reunited once again.”
After doing this, Lin Jinyan struggled to sit upright, staring straight at Chu Chengyao and Zhou Yuexue with a cold, piercing gaze.
Zhou Yuexue smiled and said, “Sister Jinyan, why do you look at me like that?”
Lin Jinyan gritted her teeth and spat out
“Chu Chengyao! Zhou Yuexue! You two heartless, inhumane scoundrels! The bone-deep hatred you have brought upon my Gu and Lin families is a sea of resentment that can never be filled!
You are treacherous and faithless, framing the loyal and virtuous! You are forsaken by both gods and men! You deserve to be sliced into a thousand pieces and struck down by heaven and earth!
As long as I, Lin Jinyan, live for one more day, I curse your grand cause to crumble into nothingness! May you be childless and heirless! May you be trampled underfoot by all! May you be reviled by ten thousand people!
Even if I die, I will surely turn into a vengeful spirit, and for all eternity, I will never rest until you two are destroyed!!!”
Having exhausted all her strength to curse them, Lin Jinyan coughed up another large mouthful of blood. Chu Chengyao’s face darkened at Lin Jinyan’s vicious curses, and he glared at her fiercely.
Seeing Chu Chengyao’s gloomy expression, Lin Jinyan laughed like a madwoman. The scars on her face split open, and with tears mixing with blood on her mangled face, she truly looked like a vengeful spirit come to claim a life.
Zhou Yuexue felt a chill in her heart and said to Chu Chengyao
“Your Majesty, Sister Jinyan has likely lost her mind. Let us return.”
Chu Chengyao also had no desire to listen to Lin Jinyan’s curses any longer. With a dark face, he stood up and walked out, with Zhou Yuexue following closely behind.
Lin Jinyan coughed a few more times, and having lost all her strength, she collapsed back onto the floor. Watching Chu Chengyao and Zhou Yuexue walk away, she continued to curse
“Chu Chengyao! Zhou Yuexue! You two will be childless and heirless, struck down by heaven and earth, and meet a miserable end! Hahahahahaha……”
Reaching the doorway, Chu Chengyao felt his temples throbbing with rage. He paused for a moment, then strode out of the house and ordered
“Someone! Burn this place down for me!”
Soon, guards and eunuchs brought firewood, arranged it in a circle around the house, and doused it with oil. Hearing the continuous curses from inside, Chu Chengyao decisively commanded
“Ignite!”
The fire roared to life, and the curses from within continued
“You will meet a miserable end! Hahahahaha……”
As the fire grew, the sound of the flames gradually drowned out the curses, but if one listened carefully, every word could still be heard, dripping with blood.
“Chu Chengyao! You will surely face divine retribution! Zhou Yuexue! Chu Chengyao! The Gu and Lin families will haunt your dreams every night! You two will never know peace again! Chu Chengyao……”
Gradually, apart from the crackling of the fire, no other sound could be heard. Chu Chengyao stood in the distance with a gloomy expression, watching the house burn to ashes.
Mid-Autumn Festival night.
Although there was still a hint of heat during the day, the night brought a chill.
In Tai’an, the capital of the Tianchu Kingdom, there was no curfew for the festival, and people were everywhere, admiring the moon and the scenery.
In one exquisitely landscaped mansion, however, no one was admiring the moon. The heads of the household were gathered together, sitting in the hall with anxious expressions.
In the inner chamber, an eight or nine-year-old child lay on the bed, a wet cloth covering his forehead, his face flushed with a high fever.
A beautiful woman, looking to be in her thirties, sat by the bed with a frown, checking the child’s pulse. After she tucked the child’s hand back under the quilt, an old woman with slightly graying hair and luxurious clothing asked from the side: “How is he?”
The beautiful woman replied
“Do not worry, Old Madam. He choked on water, affecting his heart and lungs. He needs to rest and recover for a couple of days. The medicine is currently brewing. This high fever is slightly tricky, but if it breaks by tomorrow morning, he should be fine.”
Old Madam: “As long as he is fine, that is good. I have troubled you.”
