Is this the world of card players? Yada Thief!
Chapter 30: Yours is a male, and it won't work once it sees mine, which is a female
"Sigh, although Duel Monsters are indeed trading card games and do have rules regarding gambling card exchanges, I seem to remember that you were the one who lost, Mr. Lucky?" Hayato glanced nonchalantly at the courtyard and raised his hand to stretch.
"Kid, let me teach you a rule of the adult world today." Lucky grinned menacingly, shaking the revolver in his hand. "The world is very logical, but the biggest logic is whoever has the biggest fist."
"Isn't your fist not that big either, Mr. Lucky?" Hayato raised his hand and made a fist, comparing it to Lucky's from a distance. "It looks about the same size as mine."
"Idiot, I have a gun! A gun!" Lucky was getting irritated. This kid was incredibly smart one moment and incredibly stupid the next; he was a difficult person to read. "A gun is the biggest fist."
"A gun is the biggest fist?"
Hearing Lucky's words, Hayato actually let out a light chuckle. Without any hesitation, he lifted his shirt and pulled something white out from his waistband. "As if you're the only one with a gun."
"What the hell is that?"
Hayato looked down and hurriedly said, "Oh, sorry. It got a bit squashed when I sat down just now. I'll just fix it."
Hayato picked up the white mass and fiddled with it for a moment. The previously crumpled part unfolded, revealing it to be the paper gun he had folded back at school.
"You idiot, are you playing me!?"
Hayato waved his hands dismissively. "Hey~ how could I be playing you? I'm being very serious. This gun of mine is special. Yours is a male gun, and mine is a female gun. When a male gun meets a female gun, it stops working."
"Nonsense! Shouldn't it be the female gun that stops working when it meets a male one?"
"I think you completely misunderstand, Mr. Lucky."
"Understand? Understand what?"
"In today's society, where can you find a woman with a gentle personality who lets the man lead the household? This era is all about expressing individuality, and women have all awakened their independent thinking." *Probably,* he thought, *though there are a few who over-awakened and went straight to fighting.* "In a few years, among the next generation of young people, there certainly won't be a shortage of men who are afraid of their wives."
"That actually makes sense. I've run into several guys who claim they aren't afraid of their wives, but the moment they get a call from them, they rush home like they're fleeing for their lives. Maybe it really is the male seeing—no, wait, I almost got caught in your trap, you bastard. Guns don't have genders!"
"Tsk, so close."
"I heard that!"
Seeing that Lucky was getting agitated, Hayato quickly spoke up: "Let me rephrase, let's try another way. The gun in your hand is a Japanese-made police revolver, but the one in my hand is an American-made M1917 Smith & Wesson. Yours is the son, and mine is the father. When a son sees his father, he won't dare to utter a single word."
*Right, he wouldn't dare utter a word, because that son would immediately dump sewage on him.*
"...You, are you a lunatic?" Looking at Hayato talking incessantly in front of him, Lucky glanced doubtfully at the gun in his hand. He wasn't quite sure—was he actually holding a real gun? Could he have picked up a toy? Otherwise, why wasn't this kid afraid at all?
"I'm not crazy, I'm perfectly normal," Hayato defended himself. "You probably think my handgun is fake, right? Stand still, and I'll show you a shot."
"Hmph. If that paper gun in your hand can fire a bullet, I'll take your last name," Lucky said contemptuously, watching Hayato raise the paper gun to aim at him. He didn't fire; he just watched with a smirk to see what other tricks the boy had up his sleeve.
"Are you going to shoot?"
Unexpectedly, Hayato frowned after raising the paper gun and said, "No, that's my family's TV behind you. What if I shoot and break it? I still want to watch the Duel Monsters tournament recordings. Move to the side a bit."
"Mentally unstable and a huge pain in the ass." Impatiently, Lucky took a step to the side, standing in front of the glass door leading to the courtyard. "I'm telling you now, kid, if you can't fire a bullet, my gun is going to go off. I didn't even want to kill anyone at first."
"Don't worry, Mr. Lucky."
Hayato raised the paper gun again, pretending to aim. Suddenly, as if remembering something, he spoke up: "Oh right, Mr. Lucky Kobayashi, my bank card PIN is 030221. Don't forget~"
Before Lucky could react, Hayato jerked the muzzle of the paper gun upward as if it had fired, making a "Bang!" sound with his mouth.
*Puff!*
*Click!*
*Thud!*
Watching Lucky, who had been so distracted that he failed to notice the snipers who had quietly appeared on the building opposite him—dying without even knowing how—Hayato suppressed his disgust and snatched the deck from his hands. "Since you're taking my cards, it's only fair that I take your deck, right? After all, I'm under a lot of pressure too."
———— Police helped clean up the scene ————
"That's how the situation was at the time."
Yugi and his friends gathered around Hayato's seat, completely absorbed in his retelling of last night's events.
"Hayato, you're amazing!" Joey exclaimed in admiration. "To be able to stay that calm and stall for time when facing a criminal with a handgun... If it were me, I would've collapsed on the floor long ago."
*Not at all. You're being too modest about your willpower, Joey. Not everyone can withstand the power of the Sun God.*
"And to be able to complete such a brilliant match under those conditions, Hayato-kun, you really are incredible," Yugi remarked, admiring the reconstructed duel layout on Hayato's desk.
Anzu, however, looked a bit puzzled. "But, Hayato, this 'Giantization' card seems a bit different from the one we saw at Yugi's house the day before yesterday?"
"Because Konami occasionally releases Duel Monsters cards with the same name but different artwork or even different effects. For example, with 'Dark Magician,' I have a black version and another red version," Yugi explained to Anzu. "I also have a 'Magic Cylinder' with a different effect from others. I think Hayato's 'Giantization' is the same."
"I see."
Honda nodded. "I didn't expect you to go through so much last night, Hayato. It was a heart-pounding story, though that paper gun at the end broke the immersion a little."
"Eh? I thought the climax of the story was when I was holding the American-made M1917 Smith & Wesson."
"It was not!"
"Honda, you're so annoying. Have you decided when you're going to confess your feelings yet?"
Honda went silent.

*Campus life is entering the countdown phase. However, the characters appearing in the school arc aren't all extras; I've prepared plenty of scenes for them in the upcoming plot.*
