Chapter 10: Heading to Gaoshan High School

“Thump! Thump! Thump!”

The sky was barely bright, the morning sun just beginning to rise.

Along with the knocking came a voice filled with weariness: “I’m coming in. You’ve got ten seconds to hide your smut, so don’t let me see anything I shouldn’t.”

*Click—*

No sooner had the words left her lips than the bedroom door was pushed open.

Those ten seconds were entirely a ruse.

Wu Xiaoyou charged in with high spirits, her gaze darting rapidly toward the space under the bed, the trash can, and the tissues on the nightstand.

If Wu Wang’s appearance was of the "refined and pleasant" variety—like a fairly neat clay drop tossed aside by Goddess Nüwa—then her features were an artwork meticulously carved by God himself.

Her rounded, oval face paired with the rabbit pajamas she wore made her look exceptionally sweet, while her light-gold, wavy hair, left messy and loose, gave her an air of lazy allure.

Unfortunately, such an exquisite face was attached to a mouth.

“Tsk, you hid it that fast? Can’t you at least give me a scene where you’re caught red-handed and die of social embarrassment? Then I could use it as leverage to force you to do the chores.” Wu Xiaoyou sighed, expressing her regret.

Wu Wang remained seated, staring fixedly at his computer screen. Without turning his head, he retorted, “First of all, who uses physical books for porn in the internet age? Secondly, could an old woman stop wearing such pink, cutesy clothes to pretend she’s young? Finally, I’m the one doing the damn chores anyway!”

With that, he calmly hid the fruit knife he’d been using for his suicide attempt into the drawer.

Unexpectedly, Wu Xiaoyou lunged forward.

She reached out and grabbed Wu Wang’s left hand, which was still in the middle of its subtle movements.

Snatching the fruit knife away, her tone turned serious.

“You tried to kill yourself again? Didn’t we agree you’d sleep properly at night? Are you lying to me?”

Watching her eyes grow red and crystalline tears begin to well up, Wu Wang hurriedly scrambled for a lame excuse.

“No! I was just peeling fruit to eat!”

He immediately pulled two leftover fruit pits from the drawer.

These were things the cat had dug up from somewhere and smashed against the door after getting angry last night.

Seeing the pits, Wu Xiaoyou finally let out a sigh of relief.

She carefully placed the fruit knife on the table.

Two slender, boneless, fair arms draped over Wu Wang’s shoulders from behind. She leaned down and whispered gently, “Little brother, Second Sister will definitely find a better psychiatrist to help you control those urges. Please, don’t do things to hurt yourself anymore, okay?”

“Yeah, I’ll try.”

Wu Wang dropped his usual snarky demeanor.

He knew she was just worried.

Wu Xiaoyou understood the strange, inexplicable, and intense craving for death that lay deep within his heart.

She believed it was a mental illness and had spent years contacting famous psychiatrists across the country to help him find relief.

The reason she barged into his bedroom every morning with various excuses was also out of fear that one day she would find him truly dead in his room.

Second Sister was the only person in the world who would treat him unconditionally well. Even though they weren’t biological siblings, they cared for each other more than most relatives with blood ties.

This was also a major reason why Wu Xiaoyou knew about his [Immortality] ability.

There were no secrets between them.

Of course, now there was one.

Wu Wang didn’t intend to tell her about the [Spirit Disaster Game].

He was equally worried about Wu Xiaoyou’s safety.

“Good, pinky swear, a hundred years, no backing out!” Wu Xiaoyou returned to the persona she’d had when she first entered.

After the pinky swear, she walked out of the room with a giggle.

Her voice drifted in from outside—

“Hurry up and come out for breakfast! I made you some delicious braised beef!”

Wu Wang’s mouth twitched.

He stood up and said helplessly, “You missed the word ‘noodles,’ didn’t you? Buy the pickled pepper beef flavor next time; I like that one better.”

There were 19 hours left until the mission deadline.

He wouldn’t let anything happen to Second Sister!

…………

The day passed in a flash.

Night arrived right on schedule.

After Second Sister left for work, Wu Wang spent the entire day preparing the magical tools he might need for the night.

It wasn’t until there were only about two hours left on the mission timer that he set off for a remote, abandoned school site in the suburbs.

The condition given by the [Blood-Stained School Uniform] was [Any Campus Environment].

Since it didn’t specify a functioning school, an abandoned one should work too.

All it needed was a “campus environment.”

“Buddy, are you heading to a costume party?” the taxi driver asked after a moment of silence.

Wu Wang glanced at his attire and said with a straight face, “I’m going to exorcise ghosts and protect the public’s safety.”

“Heh, are there really ghosts? How come I’ve never seen one?” the driver joked.

“Doesn’t that just prove my protection is top-notch? Tell you what, Venmo me 50 bucks as a protection fee to show your sincerity.”

“……”

The driver stopped talking.

He suddenly felt this guy wasn’t quite right in the head. What if he got annoyed and stabbed him?

Meanwhile, Wu Wang was sitting in the back seat, adjusting the position of his peach wood sword.

It was digging into his crotch.

He was currently wearing a bulletproof vest, a custom steel helmet, and tactical gloves, looking every bit the military enthusiast.

Yet, hanging from his waist were a peach wood sword, garlic, a silver crucifix, and even a black donkey hoof—all items to ward off evil. On his back, he carried a giant backpack taller than he was.

His overall image was as bizarre as it could get.

It was no wonder the taxi driver had been curious enough to ask.

Anyone would be curious about why this lunatic was taking a taxi to an abandoned school in the middle of the night.

Upon arriving at the destination, Wu Wang had barely paid the fare before the driver slammed on the gas, pulling away with the intensity of a Formula 1 launch.

He turned and vanished from Wu Wang’s sight as if fleeing from something unclean.

“Is this driver’s mental state okay? I’m worried he’ll hit a pedestrian driving like that,” Wu Wang remarked.

With that, he turned to observe the school in front of him.

This was a private high school called Hope Middle School, which had inexplicably gone bankrupt five years ago.

Today, it had become a common abandoned building in the city, with weeds growing so wildly they nearly swallowed the front gate.

The windows of the security booth at the entrance were missing every single pane of glass, and the various cheap food wrappers on the ground proved it was frequently used as a temporary nest for the homeless.

The originally pristine white tiled exterior of the teaching building had taken on a natural, wild, ink-green hue, completely overtaken by unpruned ivy and moss.

An atmosphere of desolation and decay washed over him.

“Tsk, haven’t been to school in a long time. I really miss the good old days when the principal and the female homeroom teacher were brawling in the office, and I quietly stole the clothes they’d dropped on the floor, then called the TV station to say there was a major educational news conference, leading the reporters to surround the office. Such heartwarming times.”

A look of nostalgia appeared in Wu Wang’s eyes.

That’s right, this was his old high school!

The school went bankrupt the year he graduated.

Even though he felt this shouldn’t have anything to do with him, every teacher and student in the school could guess the reason for the bankruptcy.

This jerk was the culprit!

Because he was the only one who would do such a thing!

*Snap—*

An abrupt sound of footsteps came from the distance.

Wu Wang’s previously relaxed expression froze. He frowned and looked toward the base of the abandoned school’s teaching building.

Four figures were pacing there.

Each of them was draped in a tattered school uniform.

The blurred text on the back of the uniforms read—

【Gaoshan Middle School】!

Just a quick note here: this book focuses on having fun. Wu Wang won’t have any romance-oriented plotlines. Women only slow down the speed at which I draw my blade!

Having fun is Wu Xiaowang’s true career!

Second Sister is purely a family-oriented plotline! Family, I tell you!
