Farming and Becoming a God in Another World

Chapter 24: You Are a Good Person

"The sea is wide enough for fish to leap, and the sky high enough for birds to fly."

This was the best description of Gavin's current state of mind.

The sorrow of parting was not non-existent, but it had been diluted by his newfound sense of freedom.

What restricted Gavin was not Zaranda, but himself.

On one hand, caring too much about Zaranda's opinion had tied his hands and feet; on the other hand, Zaranda's aura was simply too powerful. Even though they were on the territory of the Nort family, it felt entirely like her home turf, and she had snatched away the vast majority of the spotlight.

Most importantly, Gavin had believed from the very beginning that his advantage did not lie here. Because he had no intention of taking root, his style of action was naturally like duckweed—drifting with the current. He was content to be Zaranda's "green leaf," acting as a foil to highlight her achievements, making her path smoother and longer, so that when the opportunity arose in the future, he could use their relationship to come back and reap the rewards.

"Since you've followed me this far, come on over!" Gavin said to the dark shadow in the distance as he poked at the campfire before him.

With the sound of approaching hoofbeats, a rider slowly approached. The figure on the horse was thin and small, looking like a child of seven or eight. However, once the face was revealed, no one would think so. The pointed, long ears exceeded even those of an elf, and the large nose, which occupied a third of the face, was as flat and curved as an eagle's beak. A pair of crimson eyes, even in the dark of night, gave off an inexplicable sense of malice. It was the goblin sorcerer Gavin had released earlier.

The goblin sorcerer nimbly jumped off the warhorse and sat down by the campfire. Whether by design or coincidence, he sat exactly five paces away from Gavin.

Gavin looked at the goblin sorcerer with unmistakable, unconcealed curiosity. "How dare you follow me? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you to silence you?"

This time, it wasn't Gavin seeking out the goblin sorcerer; it was the goblin sorcerer seeking him out.

Not long after leaving the camp, the goblin sorcerer had shaken off his pursuers. After all, in terms of weight, he possessed a natural advantage; as long as he wasn't run over directly, human cavalry could not catch him.

After confirming this, Gavin had not continued the pursuit but had changed course, preparing to implement his grand plan. He hadn't expected that as soon as dawn broke, the goblin sorcerer would catch up to him from behind, having followed him for an entire day.

"If you wanted to kill me to silence me, you would have done it long ago. You wouldn't have waited until now," the goblin sorcerer replied with a sentence that sounded very familiar to Gavin.

Gavin was momentarily speechless. He put on a somewhat fierce expression and said, "What if I suddenly changed my mind?"

"You won't."

"Why are you so sure?"

"You are a good person."

The goblin sorcerer's final answer left Gavin in silence. He hadn't expected that the first "good person card" he received after his rebirth would come from a goblin.

"If you said I was a bad person who still held onto a final shred of kindness, I would accept it. But if you say I am a good person, haha... I'm afraid you've misjudged me." There was an unmistakable self-mockery in Gavin's voice.

The goblin sorcerer responded with silence.

Gavin asked curiously again, "How did you know I would take this path?"

"This is the only main road around here," the goblin sorcerer gave a very simple answer. "There are too many dangers in the wilderness. It is safest to stick to the main road."

"Fine! My question was too moronic." Gavin was practically turning into a reincarnated curious baby. "You are free now. Why don't you go back to your tribe?"

There was once again a silent stillness, but the goblin sorcerer's expression said everything.

Gavin realized he had asked another moronic question. Since he had been a slave, his tribe certainly couldn't have escaped. The goblin cannon fodder outside Nort Castle were likely his clansmen—or rather, his clansmen had likely all been consumed as cannon fodder long ago.

"Are you sure you really want to go with me?" Gavin asked solemnly. "The path I am taking will be an unusual and dangerous one. One slight mistake and you will fall into eternal perdition. Once you know more secrets, there will be no safe way to withdraw, unless it is through death—permanent death."

"You are a good master," the goblin sorcerer replied expressionlessly. Or rather, Gavin had not yet learned to distinguish the micro-expressions of a goblin.

Gavin said in a tone of frustrated disappointment, "You've become addicted to being a slave. Don't you have any dreams of your own?"

The response was still a deathly silence.

This situation led Gavin to a possibility. "You weren't born a slave, were you? Have you lived in that Great Goblin Warband since you were a child?"

The goblin sorcerer nodded.

If that were the case, it would explain why the goblin's servility was so heavy.

Because his parents were goblin slaves, he had been raised like a dog since childhood. For a house dog, following a human is instinct.

In his past life, Gavin had seen such slaves. When they regained their freedom, they were often lost and bewildered, unable to find a purpose in life for at least a short time. Many, like this goblin sorcerer, would actively seek out a new master.

Out of a sense of shared plight, Gavin's previous leniency had unexpectedly won the recognition of this goblin sorcerer, who now viewed him as a new master. This was entirely unexpected.

*Tsk.*

Does this mean "good deeds are rewarded"?

When he first captured the goblin sorcerer, it wasn't that Gavin hadn't considered beating him; he had simply considered the risks to be far higher than the utility, so he dismissed the idea of bringing him along, intending to use him only as a consumable in his plans.

He hadn't expected that, after all this circling around, his dream would come true.

Having roughly gauged the goblin sorcerer's background, Gavin was no longer polite and proceeded with another round of extreme interrogative probing.

It could be largely determined that the goblin sorcerer's situation was eighty percent true; otherwise, he would be a top-tier liar capable of perfecting every lie, along with all physiological and psychological reactions, to deceive Gavin's eyes.

When Gavin heard the goblin sorcerer's former name, he immediately told him not to use it anymore. It clearly wasn't a name, but an insulting term in the goblin language, which translated to "little trash" in the Common Tongue.

Gavin directly renamed him Vic, which in the goblin language meant "newborn."

Upon hearing this name, a flicker of light flashed in the goblin sorcerer's otherwise lifeless eyes, indicating that he preferred this name over his old one.

When Gavin proposed to look at his class template, Vic did not hesitate at all. He directly performed a Weave Synchronization, allowing Gavin to access his data.

Gavin's focus was on Vic's six core attributes and his chosen sorcerer spells.

**Class Level: 6th Level Sorcerer** **Hit Dice: 24** **Strength 8, Constitution 10, Dexterity 14, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 8, Charisma 16**

**Cantrips (Level 0):** Detect Magic, Read Magic, Dancing Lights, Detect Poison, Prestidigitation, Mending, Daze. **1st Level Spells:** Grease, Identify, Sleep, Magic Missile, Enlarge. **2nd Level Spells:** Web, See Invisibility, Alter Self, Rope Trick. **3rd Level Spells:** Fireball, Leomund's Tiny Hut.

Aside from Charisma—the key attribute for a sorcerer's spellcasting (used during Weave Synchronization; the higher the value, the easier the synchronization and spellcasting)—Vic's other attributes were quite mediocre, especially when compared to Gavin.

Vic's choice of spells also hinted at his background as a born slave.

All the spells leaned toward utility, support, and serving the group; such choices are only made when one is forced by necessity.

If he had even a modicum of autonomy, no sorcerer would ever give up Mirror Image (2nd level) or Fly (3rd level); both are essential life-saving skills for a spellcasting class.
