Hogwarts Learning Panel

Chapter 51: Golden Legend

“Excellent! Mr. Green, a few more circles, upward! Point your broom up!”

Madam Hooch’s eagle-like eyes locked onto Sheen instantly.

As she helped the little wizard, who had fallen from his broom, steady himself on the ground, she offered Sheen enthusiastic guidance, a warmth she hadn't shown in a long time.

“Keep your body leaning forward, tilt your legs slightly back, and finally—lift your head!”

Sheen was like a meteor streaking across the sky. His speed wasn't incredibly fast, but it was fluid and skillful, as if he were a Quidditch player who had spent years honing his technique on the pitch.

The little Badgers who were still practicing subconsciously looked up at that agile eagle. Then, they felt a sense of inadequacy toward their own disobedient brooms.

Flight class ended soon. Sheen landed on the grass, his face pale. In truth, his physical stamina had quickly reached its limit, but whenever this happened, a faint warmth would spread through his body, supporting him as he enjoyed this hard-won sense of freedom.

When he checked his panel, he froze for a moment

【Name: Sheen Green】 【Title: Reserve Flyer】 【Effect: Slightly increases perception of magic within flying brooms; slightly improves flying talent】 【Wizard Sheen, Flying Talent: Gold. Note: Average wizards are Green】 【Advancement: Entry-level flying skills; can unlock the "Entry-level Flying" title in the Flying Domain】 【Evaluation: You are a one-in-a-million genius in the field of flying. The broom is as well-behaved as a puppy in your hands. With your proud will, you are destined to become the greatest Quidditch player of the century】

Gold... A Golden Legend?!

Sheen held his breath.

Wait,

"Proud will"... what does that mean?

“Alright, everyone may leave the pitch. You reckless little wizards, I hope you remember this lesson!”

Madam Hooch scanned the field. The little wizards nodded submissively. Looking at the flight instructor's crooked robes and messy hair, some even blushed with embarrassment over their own foolish mistakes.

“Mr. Green, stay behind.”

Sheen, still lost in thought, was suddenly called out. He nodded instinctively.

“Oh, child...”

After the main group had left, Madam Hooch walked over quickly.

“You have many questions, don't you?”

“Yes, Madam Hooch. I want to know—is it a wizard's will that determines their flying talent?” Sheen asked, weighing his words carefully.

“Clever little eagle. Yes. Most wizards are merely riding a broom, but for a small minority...” Madam Hooch suddenly raised her hand, and a broom instantly flew into her grasp. “They are mastering the broom.”

...

After leaving the pitch, Madam Hooch's brisk words echoed in Sheen's mind

“If you observe Quidditch players closely, you will find most of them are tall and imposing. Some believe only tall wizards can step onto the pitch, but that isn't entirely accurate. When a wizard is stimulated, the magic within their body becomes more vibrant. Most of the time, this vitality is positive; it can improve a wizard's constitution.”

Having spoken with implication, Madam Hooch patted Sheen on the shoulder and left the pitch.

What could be more exhilarating than riding a broom and flying through the sky?

Sheen thought, *It's like how playing basketball can help you grow taller.*

Thus, Sheen added one more thing to his to-do list: practicing flying—even if it was just to improve his constitution.

...

Flight class and Quidditch had always been perennial topics of conversation among young wizards, and today, a new genius wizard was added to their chatter.

“Sheen, they’re actually saying you’re a Quidditch reserve!” Justin laughed at his own words. “But you’ve never even touched the wizarding world before. Oh, I guess Ernie must have been so dazed from falling off his broom that he forgot about that.”

In the Charms classroom, Michael had somehow sat down to Sheen's right

“Sheen, if I take you as my master, could you teach me some flying techniques? Master—”

“Brooms are driven by charms. When you perceive the various charms within the broom, you can use a bit of magic to direct them...”

Sheen interrupted Michael's attempt at seniority, seriously explaining his understanding.

However, Michael and the circle of little wizards around him, after hearing the second sentence, looked as if they had heard a divine text; their intelligence gradually ebbed away, and their eyes grew vacant.

Michael's group and Justin were prepared and took notes with their feathers, but after the other wizards heard: “Use magic even weaker than 'slight' to guide the steering charms, and use magic slightly stronger than 'slight' to guide the braking charms...” they gave up on eavesdropping entirely.

Only Michael continued to write while muttering, “Perceiving charms, guiding faint magic... sounds like some mysterious alchemy...”

This caused Sheen's voice to stop abruptly, not just because Professor Flitwick had entered the classroom, but because of the various thoughts racing through his mind.

If the awakening of magical power made a wizard's constitution better, would a weak constitution similarly affect the awakening or cultivation of magical power?

Was the reason he found it so difficult to cast spells and brew potions because his magic level was too low? Just as Barty Crouch Jr. once said: *The Avada Kedavra curse requires a very powerful magical foundation... you weaklings trying to deal with me will, at most, give me a nosebleed.*

Sheen might be just like that. He didn't possess the normal magic level required to release spells, which was why he needed more effective postures and higher mental focus.

His talent was below average because his magical power level was simply too low; even with a strong will, he couldn't release it easily.

What about Transfiguration?

Sheen speculated that a wizard's will was also a vital component of magic. As the branch of magic that best reflects a wizard's will, the will played a more dominant role in Transfiguration—a point that magic level alone could not overcome.

Finally, there was flying.

This required almost no high magic level; it only required guidance.

Having understood his advantages, the most significant change was that Sheen became more certain of his preconceptions, and they provided him with new directions.

“Alright, alright, I know flying is exciting,” Professor Flitwick said. He possessed a magical charm of his own; when he spoke, the little wizards would look at him with respect and seriousness, even the Slytherins.

“If you haven't forgotten the techniques for the Levitation Charm, why don't we have the feathers in front of you float—as if they were riding a flying broom—and spin a couple of times?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Justin waved his wand and recited the incantation. His feather, as if to make up for his earlier lack of flying, not only floated up quickly but also performed several beautiful spins.

“Mr. Finnegan, a proud improvement!”

Everyone heard Professor Flitwick's high-pitched cheer.
