Global Gaming: Idle From the Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 8: Interview
In Sucheng, a red business car sped along the main traffic artery.
Car after car was left in its wake.
In the driver’s seat, Xia Xi held her head high, her nose bridge prominent, revealing a patch of fair, delicate skin on her neck. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, as if she were secretly battling an invisible enemy.
Fang Heng sat in the passenger seat, shivering.
He could vaguely sense waves of killing intent radiating from Xia Xi.
Driving so wildly!
Fang Heng realized that this body still suffered from significant memory loss.
He couldn't quite remember how he and Xia Xi had met, but he clearly remembered that he had always found her annoying and that his attitude toward her hadn't been particularly good.
Strange, though; Xia Xi was actually quite pretty.
"Did you memorize the materials I sent you last night? They’re very likely to ask about corporate development; big companies pay a lot of attention to that."
"Fang Heng! Are you listening to me or not?"
Xia Xi frowned. She turned her head to look at Fang Heng, her voice rising by two octaves.
"Fang Heng? Why are you always like this? Can’t you at least try to care about your own affairs?"
"Do you really want to spend your whole life never moving on?"
Big sister!! Watch the road! Watch the car, will you!
Fang Heng’s face turned a shade paler.
Even though he was panicked to death, Fang Heng maintained his cold, aloof persona on the surface and said in a deep voice, "I'm listening."
"With your solid skills, passing the interview won't be a problem."
Xia Xi turned her head, carefully observing Fang Heng out of the corner of her eye. "Also, if they ask about the past, keep your emotions in check."
"Mm."
The car pulled up in front of a high-tech skyscraper, and Fang Heng stepped out.
His legs were still a bit weak.
Speed demons were terrifying; Fang Heng had almost thought he would die in that car.
Xia Xi was a bit uneasy. Worried that Fang Heng wouldn't be able to control his temper, she followed him in her car, honked twice, and leaned out the window.
"How about I go with you?"
"No need!"
Fang Heng tried his best to mimic the tone of the body's original owner.
"Alright, then good luck."
Watching Xia Xi drive away, Fang Heng let out a sigh of relief and looked up.
The towering tech building had an exquisite company logo mounted on its outer wall.
A phoenix soaring into the sky, every feather meticulously crafted, looked lifelike under the sunlight.
It must have cost a fortune.
"Huangming Game Company..."
Fang Heng muttered to himself.
The original owner of this body had once investigated Huangming Game Company.
In the game, a player's talent skills were not set in stone.
When a character reached level 10, they would undergo their first talent enhancement.
Players had to find talent upgrade schemes within the game themselves.
Talent enhancement schemes were ranked from E to S.
S-rank talent enhancement schemes were extremely rare!
According to data released annually by the Federation, the number of players who successfully obtained and completed an S-rank enhancement scheme each year was no more than ten.
And Huangming Game Company held a task for a top-tier S-rank talent enhancement scheme!
The owner of this body had previously dreamed of obtaining Huangming Game Company's S-rank enhancement scheme!
Fang Heng scratched his head.
Then, memories began to surface in his mind one by one.
Ever since he was kicked out of his club, Fang Heng had tried to find work.
Because of the sensational match-fixing scandal, any game company or club that did even a cursory background check knew who Fang Heng was.
Every resume Fang Heng submitted sank like a stone, and he had even been mocked by game companies in their replies.
...
Huangming Game Company, 17th-floor office.
Fang Heng sat on a stool.
Opposite him were two men and one woman.
The three were members of Huangming Game Company's management and the interviewers for this session.
The man sitting in the center looked to be about fifty or sixty years old. His back was straight, his clothes were neatly pressed without a single wrinkle, and he was in high spirits.
He was Pan Guanglin, the Game Technical Director of Huangming, responsible for the company's internal game technology.
The woman sitting to his left was about forty, giving off an impression of shrewdness and capability.
The middle-aged man on the right sat with his arms crossed, never once lifting his eyelids from start to finish, as if he were asleep.
Strangely, even though he was wearing a suit, he still gave off a cynical, devil-may-care vibe.
The female assistant secretary introduced him from the side.
"Fang Heng, former member of an A-rank club. Started playing competitive games in high school, over 10 years of training time, survived over 2 years in the Zombie Apocalypse game, possesses an initial talent related to the Zombie Apocalypse, talent rating is S..."
Pan Guanglin nodded frequently.
Upon first meeting, he had a decent impression of Fang Heng.
Yesterday, the Zombie Apocalypse of the Main God game opened its eighth district. Every game company moved at the news, and Huangming Game Company was also in urgent need of talent in this area.
Not to mention, Fang Heng had been personally recommended by President Qin.
Within four years of graduating, Qin Shuran had earned her family's trust to manage their business. This time, she had made a grand entrance by acquiring two game companies and merging them to establish Huangming Game Company, entering the gaming industry.
For a time, it created a massive stir throughout Sucheng, with the clear intention of vying for the top spot.
Pan Guanglin admired Qin Shuran greatly. He said, "Someone recommended by President Qin shouldn't have any problems."
Huh? Admitted without an interview?
Does Xia Xi have that much pull?
Fang Heng was surprised.
However, Xue Yuling spoke up: "Fang Heng, I have one more question I'd like to ask."
"Mr. Fang Heng, I'm very curious why you chose to leave your club?"
Fang Heng sensed that the other party was ill-intentioned. He glanced at Xue Yuling and replied, "Personal reasons."
"Could you be more specific?"
"Personal reasons. I don't really want to talk about those things."
Pan Guanglin realized something.
"Director Xue seems very concerned about this question?"
Xue Yuling took out her phone, scrolled through an article, and handed the text to Pan Guanglin, who was sitting in the middle.
"Director Pan, take a look at this first."
On the phone was a report about Fang Heng.
Match-fixing? Internal discord?
The various negative reports about Fang Heng made Pan Guanglin’s expression darken.
He was an upright man who couldn't tolerate any sand in his eyes.
Just the match-fixing alone was enough for Fang Heng to be disqualified in Pan Guanglin's mind.
The company must never hire such a person!
Pan Guanglin put down the phone.
"Mr. Fang Heng, please explain yourself. If you cannot provide a reasonable explanation, our company will not welcome you."
Xue Yuling looked at Fang Heng with a smug expression; she had come specifically for Fang Heng this time.
The company valued this newly established department highly, and with the sudden opening of the game's eighth district, the new department had become a hot commodity.
Countless eyes in the company were fixed on it.
Including Xue Yuling's; her nephew was also competing in this interview.
Unfortunately, Fang Heng was blocking her path.
Fang Heng stared at Xue Yuling, saying nothing, feeling inexplicably annoyed.
Where had he offended her?
There was absolutely no trace of this person in his memories.
Pan Guanglin’s face remained unreadable. Seeing that Fang Heng wouldn't answer, he said in a deep voice, "Sorry, Fang Heng, you’ve made a wasted trip. I will explain this matter to President Qin personally."
Just as he was speaking, the office door was suddenly pushed open.
"President Qin."
Pan and the others stood up in unison.
President Qin?
Hearing this, Fang Heng also turned his head to look at the woman walking in from outside, subconsciously standing up as well.
He saw a familiar face.
Qin Shuran?
She was Xia Xi's friend?
"President Qin, there is something I need to report to you..."
A surprised voice interrupted Pan Guanglin.
"Fang Heng? Why are you here?"
Hm?
Fang Heng turned his head to look beside Qin Shuran.
"Jimmy?"
Fang Heng never expected to run into a player he had shared hardships with in the game here.
"Hahahaha."
The thin, dark-skinned old man Jimmy laughed heartily. He seemed very happy, walked up, patted Fang Heng on the shoulder, and turned back to look at Qin Shuran.
"So everything was in President Qin's plan! This is the big surprise you mentioned, right? No wonder my friend speaks so highly of Huangming Game Company. Hahaha, I am very satisfied with your efficiency."
Listening to Jimmy, everyone present felt confused.
They only knew that Jimmy was representing a foreign joint venture to discuss a partnership, and Huangming Company valued this cooperation highly.
This kid actually knows Jimmy?
And it sounds like they are very familiar with each other.
Xue Yuling felt that things were slipping out of her control.
Pan Guanglin also wisely kept his mouth shut.
Qin Shuran’s beautiful eyes swept over Fang Heng quickly. She gave the secretary a look. "Mr. Jimmy, as long as you are satisfied. You don't have much time in reality, so let's discuss the cooperation first."
"Good, good, let's discuss the cooperation first."
Jimmy was very happy and nodded repeatedly.
Last night, Jimmy had seen Fang Heng's bug-like abilities in the game with his own eyes.
If nothing else, the food alone made his mouth water.
Jimmy wore a smile.
This is great; at least he wouldn't go hungry back in the game!
