Chapter 5: Triggered Task
Guan Ju'er and Fan Shengmei exchanged glances, then returned to 2202 and closed the door behind them.
Yao Bin and his group of rich kids had lost face, and with the main guest gone, there was no point in staying. Qu Xiaoxiao smoothed things over, and the group dispersed.
After seeing her wealthy friends off, Qu Xiaoxiao glanced at the security camera of 2201 next door, muttered something to herself, and returned to her own apartment.
In the 2202 living room.
Qiu Yingying excitedly grabbed Qin Hao: "Brother, you still haven't answered me! Where have you been all these years? You haven't been home in so long, and you never came to visit me at school..."
Qin Hao chuckled softly: "With so many questions, which one do you want me to answer first?"
Guan Ju'er poured a glass of water for Qin Hao and handed a tissue to Qiu Yingying.
"Thank you." Qin Hao took the glass and expressed his gratitude.
Guan Ju'er blushed slightly and asked somewhat awkwardly: "Qiu Yan, are you and Yingying really siblings? You live right downstairs, so why haven't I seen you come to look for her?"
"What? You live right downstairs?" Upon hearing this, Qiu Yingying excitedly tugged at Qin Hao's clothes again.
"Stop." Qin Hao rolled his eyes; the girl was about to tear his shirt.
"I spent the last few years in Beijing, and I didn't make much money, so I was too embarrassed to go back home. It wasn't until I came to Shanghai last year that my career started to pick up and I finally stabilized. I was so busy with work that I rarely kept in touch with home. Who would have thought you were living right above me?" Qin Hao explained.
Listening from the side, Fan Shengmei couldn't help but think of her own situation over the years, and her expression dimmed slightly.
Guan Ju'er looked incredulous: "I can't believe such a coincidence exists in the world."
Qiu Yingying suddenly slapped her forehead in annoyance: "Oh, I remember now! Guan Guan mentioned to me before that there was a very gentle guy downstairs also named Qiu Yan. My pig brain, why didn't I think of that sooner?"
Qin Hao rubbed Qiu Yingying's head with amusement: "It's fine, I'm used to it."
"Haha~~~"
After chatting for a while longer, Qin Hao glanced at his watch: "It's getting late, and you two have to work tomorrow, right? I won't disturb you any longer. Let's talk another day."
Fan Shengmei and Guan Ju'er looked at the wall clock in the living room: "Oh my, it's almost twelve. It's time to rest."
Qiu Yingying was still reluctant to let him go and held onto him.
Qin Hao coaxed her like a child: "Alright, I live right downstairs. You can come find me whenever you want. Go to sleep now; girls age quickly if they don't sleep at night."
"Fine. I'll come find you downstairs after work tomorrow. Also, give me your phone number and WeChat; your old number is disconnected."
After leaving his contact information, Qiu Yingying insisted on walking him to the elevator.
Back in the 2202 living room, Guan Ju'er suddenly asked Fan Shengmei.
"Sigh, Fan-jie, did you notice? Everything Qiu Yan is wearing is a brand name. Even if they aren't luxury goods, a whole outfit would still cost several thousand yuan. And that watch on his wrist looks like a Rolex. If it's real, it must be worth at least a few hundred thousand. Isn't Qiu Yingying's family quite poor? Where would he get the money to buy these things?"
Fan Shengmei was stunned by the question. She had subconsciously assumed that the brand-name items on Qiu Yingying's brother must be fake. But looking back, the craftsmanship was quite detailed, and that Rolex didn't look like a knockoff. One of her previous blind dates had worn an entry-level Rolex, and it hadn't looked as refined as the one on Qiu Yan's wrist.
After checking online, both Fan Shengmei and Guan Ju'er were dumbfounded. The same Rolex model on Qiu Yan's wrist sold for over seven hundred thousand yuan.
Just then, Qiu Yingying returned, and the two shared their discovery with her.
As soon as Qiu Yingying heard it, she drew her own conclusion: "It must be fake. My brother was a 'Beijing drifter' before, only making three or four thousand a month. Where would he get the money for such an expensive watch? You can find high-quality replicas on Taobao with a quick search. Look, doesn't it look exactly like the real thing?"
Fan Shengmei and Guan Ju'er felt that made sense. Since it was getting late, the three of them returned to their respective rooms to rest.
The next morning, Qin Hao was jogging in the residential complex and unexpectedly ran into Andy.
[Ding, task triggered: Andy's Wish. Andy hopes to live the life of a normal person. Reward: 4 Luck Points.]
"Morning." Qin Hao deliberately slowed his pace.
Andy was slightly startled: "Morning."
"Thanks for yesterday."
Andy kept a deliberate distance and said casually: "No need to thank me. Actually, I was planning to call the police last night, but I didn't expect them to arrive so early."
Qin Hao nodded. Seeing Andy panting, he offered a tip.
"Try to control your breathing rhythm while running. Don't swing your arms too wide, and try to keep the movements of your waist, hips, and legs consistent..."
Andy tried it according to Qin Hao's method: "Hmm, it seems you're quite an expert."
"It's alright. I've been practicing for a while and summarized these experiences." Qin Hao smiled.
Andy looked at the well-developed muscle groups on Qin Hao's body, stopped talking, and continued running.
"You keep running at your pace, I'm going to speed up."
Half an hour later, Andy was surprised to find that Qin Hao's physical stamina was truly excellent. Even after running at such a fast speed for half an hour, his breathing remained very steady.
On the way back, Andy asked curiously: "Are you a professional athlete?"
"Not at all, just practicing casually. I didn't exercise much before and my body was falling apart. I only realized later that if you treat your body poorly, it can turn around and take your life." Qin Hao replied casually.
The corners of Andy's mouth curled up slightly: "You're quite an interesting person."
"You're quite a boring person. Alright, I'm here. If you run into anything unhappy in the future, you can come find me to cheer you up." Qin Hao said as he stepped out of the elevator.
Andy watched Qin Hao's retreating back and suddenly let out a soft chuckle.
Back home, after showering and changing, Qin Hao headed to the company.
In the conference room.
Qin Hao scanned the company's management team present.
"Starting today, all of the company's self-media accounts will focus primarily on Douyin and Kuaishou. The copywriting, post-production, and operations teams must adapt to the styles of these two platforms as quickly as possible. At the same time, we need to cultivate relatable hosts to prepare for future live-stream sales."
A manager raised an objection: "President Qiu, isn't this too risky? Douyin has only just launched..."
"Did I not express myself clearly? I have already set the direction; you just need to execute it. This meeting is not for soliciting opinions, understand?" Qin Hao stared sharply at the manager who had spoken.
The other managers were too scared to make a sound.
"That's all. Meeting adjourned."
At first, everyone in the company felt that Qin Hao's move was too risky. However, soon after, with the traffic support from Jinri Toutiao, Douyin's daily active users skyrocketed, making it a top-tier product in the short-video field.
The company's revenue also increased significantly due to the operation of several top Douyin accounts. In just half a month, profits exceeded two million, doubling compared to before.
On the other side, Qu Xiaoxiao had also obtained Qin Hao's information from Yao Bin.
"Yao Bin, are you sure you didn't get this wrong? This Qiu Yan was really just an ordinary 'Beijing drifter' before? He's accumulated tens of millions in net worth in just one year? Is money really that easy to make just by running some self-media accounts?"
Yao Bin, chewing on a piece of watermelon, said vaguely: "Absolutely correct. This kid just happened to catch the wind of the era. You have no idea how profitable self-media is right now. Even our company has hired this guy for promotions, and I heard the results were pretty good."
"Looks like he's a potential stock," Qu Xiaoxiao muttered to herself.
"Xiaoxiao, don't tell me you've taken a liking to this kid?"
"None of your business. By the way, did you find out the background of the owner of 2201? That limited-edition 911 she drives isn't hers, is it?"
"Definitely not. Who would buy such a nice car and live in such a dumpy apartment? The car is registered under Tan Zongming's name."
"Looks like she's a mistress then. Tan Zongming? Who's that?"
"A big shark, a big shark far beyond the reach of you or me, understand? With his background and connections, you'd better not provoke this one. The little bit of money our family has is nothing to him..."
