Chapter 29: The First Step to Building Self-Confidence

The next day, Guan Ju'er hitched a ride to work with Andy.

In the passenger seat, Guan Ju'er hesitated for a long time before finally gritting her teeth and asking, "Sister Andy, tell me, if a boy gets kissed by a girl and then kisses her back, what does that mean?"

Andy shook her head slightly. "I think you're asking the wrong person. When it comes to romance, Fan Shengmei is the expert; you should go ask her. Why? Did a boy kiss you?"

A flash of panic crossed Guan Ju'er's eyes as she hurriedly shook her head. "No, how could that be? I... I've just been watching an idol drama lately. That's it, an idol drama."

Andy didn't think much of it and analyzed, "Well, based on what you said, there are two possibilities for this boy. One is that he likes the girl, and the other is that he's doing it for revenge."

"Revenge?"

"Yeah. The girl kissed him first, and he kissed her back—it carries a bit of a retaliatory sentiment, doesn't it?"

If Fan Shengmei were here, she would definitely have mocked them for being brainless.

When Guan Ju'er heard Andy's first possibility, her heart bloomed with joy, but when she heard the second, her entire face fell.

"So, is it love, or is it revenge?"

Upon arriving at the company and facing a busy workload, Guan Ju'er could only temporarily cast those messy thoughts aside.

During work breaks, Michelle was still badmouthing Guan Ju'er, but Guan Ju'er now treated those words like wind passing her ears. She was so busy that she didn't even have time to dwell on such things; she simply had no energy to play such childish house games with Michelle.

This scene did not escape the eyes of her manager, who grew increasingly satisfied with Guan Ju'er and subsequently assigned her even more work.

It wasn't until nine o'clock in the evening that Guan Ju'er dragged her exhausted body onto the subway to head home. The only upside was that she had missed the evening rush hour, so the subway wasn't as crowded.

Returning home, Guan Ju'er found that neither Qiu Yingying nor Fan Shengmei were there. Glancing at the time, she saw it was already ten o'clock, so she curiously called Qiu Yingying.

The phone rang for quite a while before Qiu Yingying answered.

"Hello, Guan Guan! Quick, open Douyin! Sister Fan is doing her first livestream today, and it's already started!"

Hearing this, Guan Ju'er practically bounced off the sofa. She slapped her forehead in regret. "Look at me, I've been so busy I've gone muddled! How could I forget something so important? I can't talk now, Yingying, I'm hanging up!"

On the other side, Fan Shengmei was experiencing the first livestream sales session of her life. Naturally, as a newcomer, Qin Hao had arranged for the company's most experienced streamer to guide her.

Even so, Fan Shengmei was incredibly nervous—even more nervous than when she took the college entrance exams years ago.

"Everyone, the lipstick we are bringing you today is absolutely our most cost-effective one ever. The colors are super, super amazing. Look at this pigment! Also, this lipstick comes with a total of 25 gradient colors to choose from. Let me demonstrate for you..." Fan Shengmei's hands were trembling as she applied the lipstick due to nervousness. Fortunately, she was quite beautiful and possessed a down-to-earth charm, so the livestream effect was quite good.

Another streamer stood beside her, acting as a hype person: "Wow, did you see that color, everyone? The Watery Coral! It's the perfect match for a party. Pair it with a dress like our Little Fan here, and you'll absolutely outshine all your girlfriends!"

"And, we've also applied for a special promotion from the manufacturer today. Usually, when you buy this same lipstick on Taobao or JD, the cheapest it goes is 299 yuan. But right at this moment, through the livestream link, not for 299, not even for 199—you can take home a set of any three lipstick colors for just 99 yuan!"

"Of course, the manufacturer is definitely losing money on this promotion today, so it is limited. There are only three thousand slots available, and once they're gone, they're gone. Come, let's count down from five. Staff, post the link! Move fast or you'll miss out!"

"5, 4, 1, go!"

Fan Shengmei watched the backend data nervously, praying silently. However, to her surprise, in just three short minutes, the three thousand lipstick sets were completely sold out.

With her first battle won, Fan Shengmei grew increasingly confident and became more natural and poised in the livestream. She originally had a lot of experience with beauty products, and to save money, she usually waited for deep discounts on cosmetics, so she understood the psychology of customers in a livestream very well.

Watching Fan Shengmei's performance from his office, Qin Hao nodded with satisfaction.

The reason Fan Shengmei had always been exploited and bled dry by her parents and brother was not only due to her difficulty in severing family ties but also stemmed from her lack of self-confidence.

Qin Hao's main purpose in having Fan Shengmei become a livestream streamer was not to make her money, but to help her build confidence.

Confidence is built step by step. If a person has never accomplished anything from childhood to adulthood, they naturally become prone to inferiority and fragility, subconsciously wanting to rely on others.

Of course, this was a long-term process, but they already had a good start.

Watching Fan Shengmei speaking eloquently on the livestream, Qiu Yingying's eyes shone with admiration. "Wow, Sister Fan is so amazing! To be such a good talker on her first time as a streamer... if it were me facing so many viewers, I definitely wouldn't be able to say a single word."

Qin Hao smiled and rubbed Qiu Yingying's head. "Every talent has its use. Don't envy others; you actually have your own strengths too."

Qiu Yingying looked at Qin Hao in pleasant surprise. "Brother, really? How did I not notice? What are my strengths?"

"Haha, having thick skin is also a strength," Qin Hao teased.

"Brother~~~" Qiu Yingying gritted her teeth, about to pounce on him.

Qin Hao quickly turned serious. "Alright, no more joking. Your strengths are actually quite obvious: you are straightforward and have strong execution. If you want to grow like Sister Fan, I suggest you quit your current job. Accounting is a rigorous and high-risk profession; your personality is really not suited for it."

Qiu Yingying was a typical scatterbrain. Qin Hao found it hard to imagine how she had studied accounting; he assumed her parents chose it because they thought it was a stable profession.

As for the "high risk," wasn't there a saying that as technology progresses, many professions will gradually be swept into the dustbin of history, but one profession will always exist? That is accounting, because AI cannot go to prison in place of an accountant.

Hearing this, Qiu Yingying hesitated. "But, I worked so hard to find this job..."

"What are you afraid of? You still have me. Are you going to starve to death?"

Hearing Qin Hao say this, Qiu Yingying cheered up. "That's right! I'm a 'rich second generation,' what do I have to fear? I'll go resign tomorrow!"

Well, it seemed the "rich second generation" joke was here to stay.

However, Qiu Yingying then asked, "Sigh, Brother, then what will I do after I quit?"
