Chapter 50: Mother Guan's Eye for Son-in-Laws (Requesting Monthly Tickets!!!)
Guan Ju'er's family of three arrived at the hospital. After Mother Guan inquired about the specifics of the surgery and understood the risks involved, she immediately sent Father Guan to pay the fees.
Just then, Zhao Qiping appeared at the entrance.
"Dr. Zhao." Guan Ju'er gave a start, startled. How could she have forgotten about this? What if Zhao Qiping let something slip?
Zhao Qiping did not notice her agitation and smiled. "Why did he let you come here alone today?"
Guan Ju'er felt as if her soul were leaving her body. She hurriedly signaled to Zhao Qiping with her eyes. "Oh, my roommate had something to do today, so my parents came with me."
Zhao Qiping was no fool. Seeing Guan Ju'er's eyes constantly darting toward Mother Guan, he realized the situation.
"Oh, I see. Hello, Ma'am."
Mother Guan sized Zhao Qiping up and nodded with a smile. "Hello, Dr. Zhao. Do you know my daughter?"
Guan Ju'er felt like crying. One truly cannot lie; one lie often requires countless others to cover it up.
"Um, Dr. Zhao and I met at a concert," Guan Ju'er could only explain, bracing herself.
Dr. Zhao froze for a moment, but he nodded cooperatively. "Yes, Miss Guan has a great appreciation for music."
Mother Guan's eyes lit up, and she was about to ask more, but seeing that the situation was getting awkward, Dr. Zhao quickly mentioned he had patients in his department and made a quick exit.
Guan Ju'er finally breathed a sigh of relief, but in the next second, she felt terrible.
"Sigh, Dr. Pan, how old is this Dr. Zhao? Is he married?" Mother Guan actually asked the attending physician about Dr. Zhao's personal status.
The attending physician gave Guan Ju'er a strange look but still answered.
"Oh, Dr. Zhao is 31 this year. He is our hospital's youngest attending physician, and he is unmarried."
Guan Ju'er felt like fainting from embarrassment, her face flushing deep red. "Mom, why are you asking about that!"
Mother Guan gave her a dissatisfied glare. "What's wrong with your mother asking? This Dr. Zhao looks quite refined and has good qualities, it's just that he's a bit older than you..."
"What do you mean a bit older?"
At that moment, Father Guan returned from paying the fees and asked curiously.
Guan Ju'er thought to herself: *My savior is finally here.* She quickly changed the subject.
"Dr. Pan, can the surgery be scheduled for today?"
After organizing the medical records, Dr. Pan took out an informed consent form. "It can be scheduled for this afternoon. Additionally, I will go over the surgical risks and precautions with you..."
Leaving the hospital, Father Guan, feeling bad for his daughter, suggested taking her out for something delicious.
They found a restaurant nearby. While waiting for the food, Mother Guan began telling Father Guan about Dr. Zhao, whom she had seen at the hospital.
Hearing this, Father Guan thought it sounded good too. "I trust your mother's judgment. If she says Dr. Zhao is good, his qualities must be excellent."
"Mhm, it's just that he's eight years older than Guan Guan. That's not ideal; the age gap between a man and a woman shouldn't ideally exceed three years," Mother Guan said with some regret.
In her heart, Guan Ju'er was constantly apologizing to Qin Hao: *I'm sorry, it's all my fault for making you suffer.*
"Guan Guan, let me tell you something. Although Dr. Zhao's age isn't quite right, you still need to take romance seriously. You're 23 now. You can date for two years, get engaged, and then marry two years later—that's just perfect. Don't be like those career-driven women. For a woman, a happy family is the key to a smooth life. Look at me, am I happy?" Mother Guan held her daughter's hand and lectured her earnestly.
Guan Ju'er nodded repeatedly.
"And why am I happy? Isn't it because I found your father? A woman's youth only lasts a few years; you should do what needs to be done at the right age, do you understand?" Mother Guan's greatest fear was that her daughter would be influenced by those career women at the company and adopt a "no-marriage" lifestyle. At this thought, she shot another sharp glare at her husband.
Father Guan felt innocent but helpless. Who told him to give in to his daughter's pleas and find her this internship in the first place?
"Guan Guan, eat more. This fish tofu is very tender," Mother Guan said, continuously placing food in her daughter's bowl.
In the end, Guan Ju'er ate until she was almost stuffed. During the surgery in the afternoon, Mother Guan and Father Guan sat in the corridor outside the operating room, waiting anxiously, feeling as if every minute were an eternity.
Fortunately, the surgery was not long; it ended in just over half an hour.
"Doctor, how is it?" Mother Guan asked urgently.
"The surgery was very successful. However, the patient will need two to three weeks to recover. Once she's home, she must be careful not to strain her eyes too often..." The doctor explained the post-operative precautions to Mother Guan.
Guan Ju'er also emerged from the operating room. This time she wasn't wearing glasses, and she felt somewhat uncomfortable. Her vision wasn't as clear as it was with glasses, and she nearly bumped into a nurse's cart.
Father Guan asked with concern, "Guan Guan, how are you? Do you feel unwell anywhere?"
Guan Ju'er habitually tried to push up her glasses, only to find nothing there. She blinked. "It's nothing, just that my vision is a bit blurry."
"That is normal. It will get better in a couple of days," the doctor explained.
Only then did Mother Guan feel relieved. She pulled her daughter closer, looking at her with increasing pride. "My daughter is so beautiful; even without glasses, she's no worse than a celebrity."
Guan Ju'er felt a secret surge of joy. Even her mother said so; she must be considered beautiful, right?
That evening, Father Guan and Mother Guan found a hotel to stay in near the Ode to Joy residential area. Guan Ju'er stayed with them in the hotel until eight o'clock before she could make her escape.
Returning to Building 19, Guan Ju'er scanned her surroundings. Finding no acquaintances, she entered the elevator and pressed the button for the 21st floor.
*Knock, knock, knock.*
The door opened, and Qin Hao pulled her directly into the room.
This time, Guan Ju'er was not shy. Instead, she tilted her small face up and leaned toward Qin Hao.
To her surprise, Qin Hao did not immediately crave her lips this time. He merely gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead and asked worriedly, "How was the surgery? Everything went okay?"
Guan Ju'er blinked. Moved by his concern, she took the initiative to offer him a passionate kiss. In this moment, all reserve and shyness were cast far behind her; she only wanted to use all her strength to make it up to this man.
After a long while, Guan Ju'er came back to her senses. Her face flushed as she leaned against Qin Hao's chest, murmuring.
"The surgery was very successful. The doctor said my vision will fully recover within a month or two. I'm sorry for making you worry. I was with my parents the whole time, and my mom confiscated my phone after the surgery..."
Qin Hao tightened his hold on the beauty in his arms and said dotingly, "Silly girl, there's no need for apologies between us. But I hope this is the last time. Next time your parents come, I want to stand before them openly as your boyfriend, do you understand?"
"Mhm." Guan Ju'er nodded her small head heavily.
